Overview

About the property

The Real Log Cabin

Trailsyde is a vintage log cabin faithfully kept in a past era but modernized for full comfort. There are two generous bedrooms, sitting room, great-room/kitchen with fireplace, porch, and bath plus a large front deck. For the ultimate in privacy there are no nearby cabins in sight. Pebble sand beach and a dramatic rock point add to the outdoor appeal as does the quain Crow's Nest writer's retreat on the cliff overlooking Trailsyde. The grounds are natural. Most visitors enjoy Trailsyde lore as presented in a guest book or told by the owner who lives on the property and is available to assist guests. There is neither sattelite TV nor reliable cell phone service at the location.

About Harry Drabik

The owner, Harry Drabik, has a long standing connection with the Lake Superior North Shore starting in approx 1950, continuing when his family moved there from Chicago in 1956 and following that when he came to the Grand Marais area after the U of M. Harry has been a teacher, canoe guide, and field archaeologist. He has also authored a handful of commercially published books and writes a weekly column.

Why Harry Drabik chose Grand Marais

If you enjoy a modern condo hotel with carpeted halls, balcony, and a nearby pub then Trailsyde isn't your kind of place. Trailsyde is a step back to an earlier time when the original architect/owner built the cabin as one room and constructed much of its furniture on site. The best words for Trailsyde are tradition and character.

What makes this cabin unique

For most visitors the biggest appeal is privacy of setting and the inviting deck facing Lake Superior. Of course for some the pleasure of hours searching agates on the pebble beach or evenings with the fireplace burning warmly are their special memories.

Rustic charm and location

  • 5 of 5

Property is full of charm and history with an incredible location to Lake Superior, including it's own private beach, that cant be matched. There were 5 of us, two adults three kids, and we had plenty of space

We had a few challenges at first due to the unusually cold weather and the heating situation but Harry, the owner, addressed this immediately and was very attentive through out our 5 day stay.

With the Judge Magney State park on the door step, Mink lake for trout fishing nearby ,Grand Maraias 15 minutes away and it,s own beach to explore there's plenty to do and see.

Highly recommended.

INSPIRATIONAL

  • 5 of 5

The minute we walked into this cabin we were Immediate drawn back into time. The history of this place gave you wonder. We were instantly inspired by its sounds and view of the lake. I can't thank Harry enough for opening this for everyone to experience what a treat. Usually a place like this you would be viewing behind ropes to gaze into its history. What a perfect place for the two of us to get creative and allowing us to play on your beach and for allowing our dog to get lazy on the deck. Thanks Harry!

Don't miss out on this one!!!! Monica & Bob and Cedar

North Shore perfection!

  • 5 of 5

What a privilege to stay at this meticulously restored lakefront cabin! Quiet, spacious, clean, private and close to everything-- beach, hiking trails, waterfalls, town. My 7 year old granddaughter and I created awesome memories and will be back. The owner is a perfect host--welcoming and informative. He's considered every comfort for his guests while insuring a traditional north woods/lakeshore cabin experience.

Trailsyde is a jewel! Take the ferry to Isle Royale, hike Magney and Cascade parks, feast at the Angry Trout, enjoy sunsets, waves, and rocks-- then sleep peacefully in the coziest cabin on the North Shore!

WONDERFUL

  • 5 of 5

We my wife ,10 yr. old granddaughter, and I where thrilled with the cabin, the patio/deck, the view, the beach ,the location, no road noise.

[only the waves on the beach] right in front of the cabin , the owner is very nice and helpful with some interesting history about the old but perfectly clean cabin, I'm not sure how it gets that clean? as must be difficult since its a log cabin but clean it was. and the fire place is great on a cool night which is not uncommon on N Shore. We caught some nice fish from shore just down the coast 5 miles there is so much to do in area we are going back soon.

But you don't need to do anything but sit and enjoy the view you can see the curvature of the earth from patio as you can see some much water the point is fun to walk and climb on. Loon calling and swimming by Ravens with there many interesting calls. go to Isle Royale go to Grand Portage State Park the Waterfall is the best and interesting history and the fort / trading post I could go on and on Thanks Harry for sharing your treasure of a place with us I know we will be back and will never forget the time we had. Oh Ya and that Crows Nest is really something but let Harry take you there Get the Pizza Swen and Ole's

Its all good!!
