About Leslie Hartnett
We inherited this 10 acre property from my husband's parents who bought it in 1946. The original house was built in 1840 and we have added on to it, doing all the work ourselves. We are both artists; Sean is a sculptor of stone and Leslie does reliefs in terracotta/majolica. We live 6 months in our house on the property (May-November) and 6 months in Pietrasanta, Italy (November-May. We built the Barn in 1997.

Why Leslie Hartnett chose New Shoreham
Sean's family bought the property because they fell in love with Block Island and with Schooner Point in particular. They felt it was very like Ireland with its brilliant blues and greens and its rolling stone walls. They chose this particular spot because it was far (3 miles) from the more populated parts of the island and because it was so near the ocean. In 1946 there was much to choose from but Schooner Point won their hearts.
What makes this Barn unique
No matter how crowded it gets in the summer on Block Island, it's always peaceful at Schooner Point.

2019 Block Island visit
The property has an amazing view, and the barn has a rustic - artsy feel. It was everything we hoped it would be.
Gorgeous location. Great stay.
My family and I had a great time at the barn - it was one of the most beautiful locations I’ve ever visited.
Beautiful & Quiet Escape
Off the beaten path for sure! Rustic and cozy seaside retreat with the most unbelievable views. From rolling green fields, in limited ocean views, wildflowers, deer, birds and more birds including pheasants. The barn loft is cozy and simple...just enough comforts (indoor plumbing, small fridge, and coffee maker) all the basics. We absolutely loved our stay there and prayerfully will have another opportunity to stay again sometime. Highly recommend this experience for anyone in need of a peaceful retreat. My only regret is we couldn’t stay longer.

An island gem!
My family and I absolutely adored Sean & Leslie’s property. The views were stunning... we watched the sun rise and set from the barn everyday! Woke up each morning to a perfect view of the ocean and boats passing by. Leslie was very helpful and responsive as well, great hospitality. So happy we found this listing and can’t wait to return again next summer!
So unique and beautiful.
Just walking up to the beautiful barn and seeing the water just beyond the field is more than you could hope for. But then you go up the stairs and into the Barn and it only gets better. It is interesting and unique and a lovely place. We really enjoyed it. ~ Carol and Bill
