Adventures on the Gorge
About Adventures on the Gorge
Nestled on the rim of the New River Gorge, this authentic timber frame home, Martha's Place, was inspired by Martha Gaines Wehrle. Martha was born and raised in Fayette County, West Virginia. As a Congresswoman and Senator, her life's work included caring for and nurturing her home and its residents. Martha's Place was aptly named as it encompassed her strength, her natural beauty and grace, and her endless effort to protect all she loved about her home, West Virginia. Martha's Place is located off the beaten path in Wild Rock, a community whose design guidelines call for the use of long-lifespan materials, such as local lumber and stone. Materials utilized in the construction of this vacation rental home. To leave the lightest environmental footprint possible, Wild Rock also insists on the most efficient use of natural resources. Homes must be oriented in the New River Gorge National Park to take advantage of prevailing winds, sun angles and shade from surrounding vegetation. These home site practices help preserve the natural beauty of the New River Gorge and surrounding area.
Adventures on the Gorge purchased this House in 2008
