About the property

ISTRICI DI S.GIOVANNI

The property is located midway between Florence and Siena, about half an hour from both, surrounded by cypress and oak woods, olive and vineyards, and it dominates a little lonely valley. It is placed in one of the most wooded and well preserved parts of Chianti Classico area (renowned for its wines and food) between S.Donato in Poggio and Castellina in Chianti. The quiet atmosphere makes It easy to see roe-deers, even during daylight hours, istrici (a peculiar kind of porcupine introduced by the Romans, emblem of a 'Contrada' of Siena's Palio)squirrels, birds, hedgehogs....

We rent two of our houses, a small villa and a bigger country house, totally separated from one another (they are on two different levels of the hill). Both houses, surrounded by the green, are fully restored and equipped. The Red House (unit 1019994) can accommodate 2 to 4 guests while and the Yellow House (unit 1228613) can welcome up to 8 people. The photos show both of the units; please pay attention to the descriptions.

Guests can also access our swimming pool: it is 83 square metres wide and open from the middle of April to the middle of October.

Rentals of two weeks or more will lead to a discount. Please email me for price.

N.B.: please check the last paragraph (bottom of rates page) for additional charges (utilities and stay tax).

About Stefano Baldi Lanfranchi

We produce wine and olive oil, following the rules of organic farming, electricity comes from renewable energy. We speak english, french, german, dutch, danish and of course italian.

Why Stefano Baldi Lanfranchi chose Val d'Elsa

Despite the private setting, the cities of Florence and Siena are easily reachable by car with a 40 minutes ride. You can bike or drive to the numberless charming hamlets, small villages, churches, castles, panoramic spots of Chianti nearby, wander in the woods. In addition some examples of what the surroundings have to offer are: S.Gimignano, with the well known tower-houses; S.Appiano; the palaces of Colle Val d'Elsa, birthplace of Arnolfo di Cambio, the architect of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence; Certaldo, where Boccaccio, the author of Decameron, lived; the fortress of Monteriggioni; just a little farther away you can reach the etruscan city of Volterra; Montalcino, worldwide famous for “Brunello” wine production and Val d’Orcia; the area of thermal hot springs of which Bagno Vignoni, the setting of many scenes from the film Nostalghia by film director Tarkovskij, is a beautiful representation; Pienza, magnificent example of the Renaissance 'città ideale’; the sea in Cecina…

What makes this house unique

The property is extremely quiet since the nearest country road is 1.1 km far, our closest neighbours live at 1.5 km distance. Nonetheless, the village of S.Donato in Poggio (4 km) will provide you with most of the things you might need during your stay. There you will find a well supplied small supermarket (also open on Sunday mornings), a pharmacy, a bank, a post office, restaurants, bars, a bakery and other shops.

Un séjour inoubliable !

  • 5 of 5

A quiet gem in northern Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Stefano's Red House after receiving a strong recommendation from friends who visit the property each year. Stefano has taken a lot of care in making his Red House a very special place. The house was in excellent condition and we enjoyed using the very well-kept pool. The property is located in a very central area so it was easy to go on day trips to other villages and Firenze. Stefano has his own vineyard and we enjoyed tasting his wine while unwinding on the patio. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a home base in northern Tuscany.

Perfect Little Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in the little red house for our 1st year anniversary and absolutely loved the peace and quiet the area had to offer. The house had everything we needed, it was the perfect place to close out our European vacation to relax and tour the Tuscany area at our own pace. The pool area is very clean and well maintained. The pathway through the property is beautiful. A lot of work went into this place and it's very impressive at first glance and also that last look before you have to leave. There are enough restaurants in the area that you can easily go for lunch or dinner, which we tried. But after all day touring, it's also nice to have the option to stop at a local grocery store and pick up local foods and eat in the quiet surroundings of the property. Stefano and Han's are great, they are there at arms reach when you need something, but also keep their distance to allow you to enjoy quiet time. We highly recomment this little gem for those of you that want to take in the Tuscany area, we do hope to return again one day soon!!!

Un petit paradis !

  • 5 of 5
