About Nancy Moen

Carroll operates 2 restaurants, and Nancy is retired from General Motors. We love living in Montana, not far from the cabin, which is a second home.

Nancy Moen purchased this cabin in 1980

Why Nancy Moen chose Helena Valley Southeast

We bought this home as a private get-away, and for family and friends, and are now opening it up to new friends through VRBO. Carroll is a native Montanan, and Nancy is a native by choice.

What makes this cabin unique

We never tire of the lake views, and watching all the activity, including all types of boating. Wildlife in the area adds to the Montana experience. The large river rock wood-burning fireplace is a real treat on cool evenings.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Returned for another wonderful family vacation. This time fished a great deal in rented craft from Kim's Marina. Caught Walleye and 3 kinds of trout. Observed a "super moon" and some spectacular thunderstorms on the deck. Went over to the Vigilante Campground near York and hiked the Trout Creek Canyon hike - Quite gentle for us "young seniors" and perfect for novice hikers. Beautiful scenery. Thank you, Carroll and Nancy, for your wonderful hospitality as always. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Beautiful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. The cabin is wonderful and restored with such care and beauty. The view of the lake is spectacular and it's very close to fishing and swimming. A must stay if you're going to the Helena area.

Cozy historic cabin with a lake view.

  • 5 of 5

This historic cabin is a DREAM! I fell in love the moment I walked in the original wood front door. The owners, Nancy and Carroll, have put a lot of love and care into this cozy cabin. All the amenities you could want plus comfortable beds, plush towels, washer/dryer, gas grill, outdoor patio, front porch, complete kitchen with every pot, pan, dish and utensil you might need. We had deer in the front yard more than once and our son loved the porch swing!! :-). The owners are very warm

and hospitable and made us feel right at home. They also were very helpful for finding out about local sights and activities. The cabin has a wonderful view of the lake and is within walking distance a sandy beach were we went swimming - plus marinas close by. So much fun!!! We will be back, for sure!

R&R At It’s Finest!!

  • 5 of 5

My three boys (ages 17, 13 and 6), my wife and I came up from Illinois and stayed here for 5 days.

This place was amazing!

I loved how this had the feel of an old cabin yet it still had a modern touch to it. The Moen’s did a wonderful job with giving this place charm and comfort.

We spent the majority of the time on the front porch looking at the mountains over the lake or go out back and grill with a family game of darts.

About every night we would see a few deer and they were within 4’ from us!! There was a bald eagle sighting, a beautiful green swallow and bats.

The bats did not bother us, however it did prevent us from hanging outdoors at night (we visited in July and the bugs were pretty bad, so it wasn’t the worst thing). There were no bat sightings inside.

It is about 20 mi it’s from beautiful Helena where we would shop, take in more breathtaking sights and even a rodeo.

The lake was close by as well but the “beaches” were a few miles away, although there are some swimming and fishing holes you could probably find within walking distance.

It’s also located about 3 hours of the northern entrance of Yellowstone and 3 hours south of Glacier.

Inside there was family friendly DVDs, Roku TV and board games. The beds were comfortable and the view from the upstairs bedroom provided a magnificent view of the sunrise.

I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a “getaway.” It was quiet, convenient and the owners were a short walk away if you needed anything.

Looking forward to going back!!
