Great cottage in The Broads

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at this property over Easter holiday. The cottage was well equipped with all the mod cons & felt very homely. Our son loves having a bike to use & our daughter just loves the ducks. We did some lovely walks when it was dry and used the variety of board games & read the variety of books available when it was raining. Looking forward to come here again soon. 5 star for the location & for the cottage.

Relaxing Days on The Riverbank

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely one of the best, most relaxing holidays we have had for ages. Not only have Mick and Maureen got the most beautiful location, but they have literally thought of everything - it is like a home from home. The boat and canoe are fantastic, my 5 year old even had to have her lunch on the boat! The wildlife was never ending swans, ducks and a barn owl all came to visit to name just a few. Every morning Mr Duck made sure he came to see us, can't think why! Lots of relaxing days sitting watching the boats go by, but also very handy for Africa Alive, Pleasurewood Hills, Yarmouth beach and the dog races. Thank you for just what we needed, it was a joy to stay and play!

P.S. The window seats were also a big hit for those lazy days reading "Wind in the Willows"!

Wonderful retreat from a busy world

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks in July & loved every day . The cottage has everything you could possibly want & need . The boat & canoe were well used & enjoyed ! The fishing from the garden was good especially towards the evening when the passing boats ceased . Walking to the village was interesting & we saw lots of unusual birds on the way as well . The evening sky's were magical ! Having to use the boat to get to the car was an experience . We have been coming to the Broads for several years now & this is definitely one of the best cottages we have stayed in so far . So much so that we are trying to sort out coming back next year !

Fabulous Retreat for all ages

  • 5 of 5

3 Generations of my family from teenagers to over 60's stayed at this lovely cottage. There was something for everyone from laid back fishing from the front lawn to scenic walks to the local ammenties at Potter Heigham offering fish and chips by the river, pub, gift shop and fabulous indoor centre selling everything from basic ammenties to being able to furnish a whole house!

The cottage was well kitted out. The owners Mick and Maureen had thought of everything you could possible need from pots and pans right down to needle and thread.

We used the sturdy boat that was supplied with the cottage to access our cars and drove to the local Tescos in Stalham, but to be honest if we'd discovered the indoor centre earlier we would have got most of our food items from there. The gift shop, by the way, sells delicious ice- cream!.

We spent one day visiting nearby Cromer which was about 20-25 mins drive away and has lovely views from the pier. We also hired a boat from MayCraft midweek and pootled down to Hickling Broad (about 1 Hour and 15 mins by boat) which the two teenage girls took turns at the wheel which they loved, and moored at the lovely riverside pub for a refreshing drink, it also serves food upto 2:30pm and a slot after 5:30pm. (as of July 2012) All this is personal choice however, just being away from the hustle of city life to this tranquil cottage was more than enough for me.

Overall a holiday i'd definitely recommend!!

Excellent place to stay on river

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Leaside for the 1st time , but this will not the be the last.

The owners Mick & maureen could not have been more welcoming , The bungalow was so well equipped it was like home from home . We did not venture out to far but it was just a relaxing holiday , the fishing from the lawn was the best i have had on the broads for many years . It was nice and quite and the use of the boat was handy . If you are looking for somwhere to stay on the river look no more just book it you will love it.

Tales of the Riverbank

  • 5 of 5

This was by far one of the best holidays I have spent with my two grandchildren. The location was fantastic, the added fact that you needed a boat to got to the shops also (walking was an option but the boat won) was a benefit to them. The bungalow had everything you could ask for and more. The children had use of 3 mountain bikes, a canoe, a rowing boat and numerous games for the night time. Other facilities were very high standard including dishwasher, bath, shower. I would recommend this to my friends and relatives as both an adventure holiday or just a relaxing week watching the boats and world sail by...beautiful.

The property is within walking distance to village shops and pubs, easy boating to Broads attractions, a 20 minute drive to blue flag beaches,Great Yarmouth seaside resort and half an hour to Historic Norwich with its great shops and restaurants. One of the oldest of a string of chalets along the river, accessed principally by boat and surrounded by farmland and nature reserve, wonderful wildlife and fishing, also great cycling country. Day boats can hired on a day or weekly basis,as can traditional wooden sailing boats. Very peaceful situation but still wonderful for family holidays, with lots of local attractions.
