About Miranda Lane

Now living in Deal, Kent when not in Wengen. We play golf in UK and when in Wengen we ski if the weather is nice and enjoy the Village and the views when it is not. We have 2 daughters and 2 sons and 10 grandchildren. In the Winter months, the oldest children ski and the younger ones toboggan when they come to stay. In the Summer months there is a great deal for the children to enjoy including "trotti biking, outdoor parks, boating and swimming etc.

Miranda Lane purchased this chalet in 2009

Why Miranda Lane chose Eiger, Mönch & Jungfrau

We knew we wanted to buy a place in Wengen because I had been visiting there for a very long time. We were so lucky that Chalet Bijouli was available when we were looking and knew it was 'the place' the moment we walked in. The 3 double bedrooms are well equipped with fitted cupboards and basins and the sitting room has a wonderful log fire and there is a dining room. The kitchen is separate and the whole provides a warm and comfortable house with some antique furniture in the living room but with a modern kitchen and bathrooms. There is a large south and west facing terrace with views across the Lauterbrunnen Valley towards Murren and a rockery garden.

Fabulous place for our family of 5

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic family vacation last month at Chalet Bijouli! The views from the patio, living area, and master bedroom are amazing. It is nicely furnished, well equipped, and very comfortable. We appreciated Miranda and Richard's attention to detail and their tips for enjoying the area. Kathleen, who was available to take care of any needs or questions we had while at the chalet was also very friendly and helpful. We hope to go back one day!

Owner's Response: Fred and family, Thank you so much for your review and we are delighted when people have enjoyed their stay. We try hard to make the chalet warm and comfortable for all our guests and once people have been to Wengen, be it in the Winter or Summer, they seem to come back again and again. We would certainly hope you would.

Heavenly Bijouli!

  • 5 of 5

I’ve visited the Bernese Oberland fairly regularly over some 60+ years and I’ve just found this comfortably -furnished, well-maintained, smart but homely ‘Chalet Bjouli’ which I’ve enjoyed more than any other I’ve visited in Wengen. It made me feel welcome immediately I arrived.

The description I had read of Bjouli was accurate in every way, and in fact it had far more contents than advertised. Everything was as promised - comfy beds, constant hot water, excellent kitchen equipment and household facilities - all very clean; some essential foodstuffs (to be replaced) to get one over the first night; even rhubarb for the picking in the garden. It is, in fact, the owners’ home set in a quiet and beautiful tourist-free location just beyond the centre of Wengen with unbelievable views from all its windows and the flower-decked sun-terrace.

Now In my 87th year, and travelling initially on my own with luggage - (friends joined me for 3 weeks later) - I worried that I might find the immediate terrain around the chalet difficult, so I consulted the owner. Her concern was genuine, but her information and advice helpful and accurate. Thus I sent my large suitcase in advance by train from Geneva Airport to Wengen (12 Swiss Francs well spent); and I was able to order groceries in advance which were waiting for me in the chalet when I arrived. And with trains running up and down from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen and vice-versa every 15 minutes - getting around was absolutely no problem for someone who nowadays has to ‘stroll’ rather than ‘walk’.

All information re train excursions, Swiss postbuses, sporting activities, timetables and fares, were in the chalet awaiting us, together with details of recommended shops and restaurants; and there were many CDs, books on wild flowers, birds etc., etc.; novels, TV - and lots of games but the younger ones were out walking, exploring and sporting in the mountains or on the lakes nearly all day long until lured ‘home’ by hunger. You could stay for weeks and not exhaust all the wonderful walks and possible sight-seeing in the area.

I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending ’Bijouli’ for friends and relatives of all generations because, also for the less energetic, there’s an awful lot to be said for admiring the scenery from the seat of a Swiss Postbus, or for just staying put on the furnished sun terrace, relaxing after a Jacuzzi with a book or G&T, and simply enjoying the peace and quiet .

Fabulous spring summer location

  • 5 of 5

The chalet was in a beautiful location with views that instantly relaxed us. There was brilliant access to and from trains and walking to Wengen was also easy. We found so many things for all the family to enjoy and would highly recommend the well presented and comfortable chalet Bijouli to anyone.

SWISS PERFECTION

  • 5 of 5

4 generations of our family stayed at the chalet in February 2015. the whole experience was fantastic. The attention to detail is excellent Miranda is a very friendly owner and provides wonderful instructions in order to get the most out of your stay. for skiing it is very good the local station is 2/3 minutes away and with a bit of planning you can be on the slopes very quickly.

The setting is without doubt the best we have stayed in and facilities are very good.

There are personal touches in the chalet making it feel as you are friends with her family rather than just holidaymakers. If you are looking at other options in this area look no further superb. We will be back probably in summer next time.

Extraordinary setting for a summer vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Bijouli is both charming and very comfortable. The view from the patio is breath-taking and there’s also a view from the master bedroom and the living area. You are right in nature in this lovely spot, and yet in a very cozy setting. The beds are comfortable and there’s more than adequate hot water to fill the deep bathtub and also take a shower; I mention this only because this so often isn’t the case in vacation rentals. The kitchen is very functional and comfortable and the large dining table easily seats 6 to 8 people. The high speed wireless is very reliable and fast enough to allow us to receive large files. There are also photos of Miranda and her family in the main area, and the personal touches are particularly nice.

The chalet is about a half-mile uphill walk to Wengen or a 2-minute train ride (trains run every half hour). Wengen is such a busy village that we enjoyed being a bit apart in our own private, very quiet world.

Miranda was very helpful in planning our trip and recommended the Beausite Park Hotel as a place to get a massage – and she was very correct in her assessment! I had a remarkably wonderful massage and reflexology session at the Beausite Park Hotel, provided by a woman who is both a masseuse and a nurse. We had many special dinners in the village and found our 5-course dinner at the Scheindigg Hotel especially tasty and unique with fabulous service.

If you aren’t familiar with Wengen, it’s a very special place not to be missed! This is a large area with many towns, extraordinary vistas and countless walking trails, all with charming restaurants along the way. Although there are a huge number of tourists, they go to mostly predictable places and are only on the main paths. We were surprised to find many of the most beautiful walks wonderfully empty of people. Our favorite walk was from Kleine Scheidegg to Biglenalp to Mettlenaip and along a long loop to Allmend and then back to Wengen (about 13 ½ miles downhill). The vistas were so expansive and stunning that we often laughed with the joy of being in such a beautiful place. The Eager walk is also a remarkably special experience….and there are countless other magnificent walks. We will definitely return, possibly for skiing in the winter, but definitely for more hiking in the summer.

A Wonderful Family Christmas at Chalet Bijouli

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a blissful family Christmas at Chalet Bijouli. The chalet is so comfortable, with every detail catered for ( including , dare I admit it, access through Sky to UK Christmas TV and the final of Strictly). A very special homely chalet in a very special place. We wanted for nothing and look forward to returning nexy year.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much, Clare and Robert. We work hard to improve the Chalet for our visitors every year. There are always improvements to be made and we are happy, if you are happy. It may not be Claridges, but it is a lot cheaper.

Notes:
The chalet is looked after by Kathleen Bruno who offers invaluable help with extra cleaning and other services (obviously she will charge for this). There is also a great tourist office in Wengen. In the Village you will find everything you need shops (some deliver), hotels with sports facilities, bars, restaurants, sports shops with hire facilities and several ski schools. There are nursery slopes, an ice rink, crèche and play facilities. In the centre of the village there is the cable car to Mannlichen with its miles of pistes and whatever your level you can ski, board, toboggan, hike or just lie in the sun with a glass or two and enjoy the ambiance! This is a car free resort so you must leave your car in Lauterbrunnen car park and use the mountain railway. Most ski/train passes will cover your mountain railway trip between Lauterbrunnen, Wengwald and Wengen.
