About Anrik Engelhard
I am born&grown, educated in Amsterdam, but lived and worked for years in tropical areas as a doctor (clinical and public health). My wife Carla works for the Municipality of Amsterdam. We love to make long bicycle tours in Holland and abroad. We are active in a local group of climate activists for CO2 reduction among citizens.
Anrik Engelhard purchased this Bed And Breakfast in 2001
Why Anrik Engelhard chose Amsterdam-Noord
Carla became somehow 'claustrophic' in our previous 7 th floor apartment. To our surprise we ended up in Amsterdam North where nature is in the backyard....We were very lucky to find this place and never take it for granted.
What makes this Bed And Breakfast unique
After an exiting day in town get rid of the noise and dust. Park your car secure in front of the house at no cost. Even better, leave your car next day; take our (free!) bicycles. After 20 minutes you are in town after enjoying the view from the (free/7x24) ferry. Even taxi drivers often say: 'Wow, I didn't know we have places like this in Mokum' !! (local nick name of Amsterdam).

The perfect place!
We absolutely loved our stay here. It’s in the perfect location, it’s quiet and it’s beautiful. Bikes available for use to explore and there are fabulous amenities nearby! Anrik and Carla are such wonderful hosts. We will be recommending them to everyone!
I contacted Anrik with questions on more than one occasion and each time he quickly and politely answered me. He was very helpful. A change in plans prevented us from staying at his cottage and he never was anything but professional. It is required to do the rating in order to leave a review but I am sure the stay would have been amazing.
We stayed for 5 nights in this wonderful property. The house is well designed and in a peaceful area near Amsterdam. The house was very clean and well appointed, everything you could need was provided. Good quality bikes too!
Lovely Garden cottage on the outskirts of Amsterdam
Lovely Garden cottage on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Host gracious and very helpful. Although getting into Amsterdam took a long walk and a tram, it was worth staying there due to the peace and quiet. Excellent place if you are a cyclist. Stairs to loft bedroom could be challenging for older people.
Lovely cottage on the outskirts of Amsterdam
This cottage is an absolute gem! Very quiet and peaceful. We spent our days traveling to the bustling city but had a quiet retreat to go home to at night. The city of Amsterdam is a short drive. But we felt as if we were in the country. The owners were very accommodating and gave us helpful travel tips on how to navigate in The Netherlands. Everything we needed for our stay was provided and a sizable market is only a few blocks away. We especially loved our morning greeting from a pair of ducks, in the small pond, right outside the cottage door. It was the perfect place for our stay and if we ever return, we hope to stay there again!
The cottage was perfect...Anrik was a very gracious host. He made sure we had everything we needed. Great shower in the bath and roomie kitchen. Easy trip from Centraal Station, metro tram Noord M-52, 2nd stop after the tunnel to catch bus 37 to Leirgrouw. The cute local market has everything for cooking in. We were there early in the season and would come back in the Spring just to see the garden in bloom. Many thanks to Anrik and his family, Kate
The region around our house is typically Dutch: history of our struggle against the sea; where Rembrandt painted; historical and contemporary architecture; tour along the fishermans villages along the IJsselmeer (Volendam, Edam, Marken) Open air museum Zaanse Schans. And... van Gogh, Rijksmuseum, Eye (film cineam&museum), and just walk along the canals.... Amsterdam is great, though small: everything within easy reach!
