We have been farming on this property since 1973. We have a large dairy herd and all their followers. The property is situated in the farmyard and there are farming activities taking place throughout the day. Guests are welcome to view the milking cows (children must be accompanied at all times).
In December 2014 we have been awarded the overall award for the most interactive event held during Heritage Week having been runners up in 2013..http://www.irishtv.ie/category/ireland/munster/waterford/
We have a great interest in how people lived long ago, how they worked, how they ate, how they played.
Mary Flynn purchased this farmhouse in 2009
This property is over 200 years old and was refurbished in 2008/09. It belonged to Gerard's Aunt Nell, hence the name Nell's Farm House
The house is situated on a working dairy farm at the foot of the Comeragh Mountains. The Mountains contain many beautiful lakes and maps are provided for the various walks. The house was renovated to include many modern features such as fitted kitchen, power showers but while still retaining the old features such as shutters on the windows, high ceilings, the open fire.
This home was a little hard to find but with our navigation device we found it. The house is what you would expect of a real Irish country home. We were comfortable and had plenty of room and comfortable beds. The kitchen needed some upgrading. The fresh milk was a wonderful treat. I had hoped to meet Mary as I had corresponded with her through VRBO but we didn't have the pleasure. Her husband Gerald greeted us during milking time and showed us around. We call our stay at Nell's Farmhouse " real Irish country living."
Extremely hard to find even with GPS. Don't know if I would have found it if it wasn't for a nice lady who knew them and showed us where it was located. Comfortable furnishings. Sorry we didn't get a chance to sit on the back patio and use the hot tub. Could use a few more amenities and instructions on using the shower, etc. Small road leading to the farmhouse was very narrow with ruts. My car hit bottom several times.
Quietly located property but we found it had easy access to lots of holiday activities such as great walking trails for all abilities, Dungarvan and Waterford, a waterfall and beaches within half hour drive and visitor attractions like the pretty steam railway at Kilmeaden and Mount Congreve gardens all within easy distance. The house was well furnished, clean and comfortable and the hot tub a definite bonus after a days walking in the Comeragh mountains. Loved our first visit to Ireland.
We had a wonderful holiday at Nells farm house. The owners couldnt have been friendlier or more accomodating. Would definately return sometime in the future!
We enjoyed our stay at Nells farmhouse very much.
The house was nicely restored with spacious rooms and lovely surroundings. Nice beds, big bedrooms and well functioning bathrooms and kitchen. We also appreciated the wifi available.
Mary and Gerry were both very kind and helpful. We got fresh milk every day and Mary organized fresh eggs from her neighbour!
We enjoyed the living room with the big and soft sofas - but also the patio with the hottub - with view to the mountains!
The house is very well located for exploring the southeast of Ireland.
Our family of 5 had a comfortable and enjoyable stay at the house in a green and lush part of the country. Mary and Ger are very accommodating and delightful to talk to, providing information on the area as well as the farm. This is a working dairy farm, so there are lots of cows (and calves when we were there) right out the front door, great for animal loving kids. The calves are timid but friendly.
The house is centrally located within a 30-45 minute drive of many southeastern sights such as Cashel, Waterford, Kilkenny and the coast. It's a little hard to find at first until you learn to ignore the Sat Nav (not recommended for Ireland). This is a beautiful and perhaps less tourists part of the country, highly recommended.
