'Ebb and Flow' a light and airy seaside get-away at Crescent Beach

Bedrooms 3
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Relaxing and serene, Ebb and Flow is a lovely vacation home located just a short walk from sandy Crescent Beach. Vintage decor and special touches enhance the cottage charm of this comfy and cozy retreat.

The master bedroom features a queen-sized antique iron bed and private bath. The full bedroom has a white vintage cottage style bed and the twin bedroom features wicker furniture. Each bedroom enjoys a beautiful ocean view. Plenty of windows provide natural light and offer cool sea breezes.

The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook a fabulous lobster dinner right down to the bibs. There is all new kitchenware including all-clad cookware and corelle dishes. The country kitchen features an antique hutch and farm table. Off the back deck is a patio with picnic table and gas grille for cook outs. There is a large, private yard with a beautiful lawn for kids to play in and lawn chairs in case you want to relax under a tree and read.

In the morning, grab a cup of coffee and sit on the front porch and watch the sun rise over Penobscot Bay or walk down to Crescent Beach and greet the day. At the end of a full day of playing in the sun and enjoying all of the activities the area has to offer, fall asleep to the sound of waves lapping at the shore or maybe the distant echo of the fog horn.

If you have a rainy day, don't fear - the cottage is fully stocked with rainy day entertainment such as games and cards, a full bookcase, high-speed wireless, TV with cable and a DVD player and lots of family-friendly movies.

Crescent Beach is ideally situated for exploring Owls Head and the mid-coast area. Some of the highlights of Owls Head include the renowned Transportation Museum, Knox County Airport (Cape Air flies into Owls Head from Boston and other regional locations and car rentals are offered at the airport, too), the quaint Owls Head General Store (home of the award-winning 'Best Burger in Maine') and nearby Owls Head State Park which features the popular Owls Head Lighthouse. Lucia Beach is located a few minutes away from the house by car in Birch Point State Park and offers a pristine beach, picnic facilities and hiking trails.

Owls Head is only 10 minutes away from Rockland. Rockland's busy harbor is the second largest in Maine and is the setting for the Samoset resort. Rockland offers many amenities including: hospital, restaurants and shops, antiques, the Farnsworth Museum, the Sail, Power and Steam Museum, art galleries, two movie theaters including the historic Strand Theatre, and many recreational, tourist and harbor activities. Ferries leave 6 times a day from Rockland for the islands of North Haven and Vinalhaven. Twenty minutes north is the scenic town of Camden.

Crescent Beach, when the tide is out a bit, is a lovely, safe, family-friendly sandy beach. Perfect for building sand-castles, beach combing for seashells and sea glass and of course, swimming. The gentle waves are safe for children to play in and offer hours of summer fun.

About Kathy and Walt

My husband and I honeymooned in Maine and have been visiting the mid-coast area for many years. When we came to Owls Head we fell in love with it!

Kathy and Walt purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Kathy and Walt chose Owls Head

It's a relaxing place where you can enjoy the peace and quiet, but when you want to have some fun - all of the activities you might want are just a few minutes away in Rockland. It's the best of both worlds.

Not that there isn't plenty to keep you occupied right in Owls Head between the beach and other local attractions. And when you're hungry, the Owls Head General Store is just 4 minutes from the house. Besides Maine's 'best burger' they serve delicious homemade haddock chowder, veggie soup and wonderful gourmet sandwiches. We can attest to the fabulous food because we eat there often when we're in town!

What makes this cottage unique

We bought the property in April and have been working on it all spring and summer to make it just right for you to enjoy! Other than some vintage and antique items, most of the furnishings are new. New living room furniture, beds and linens, dishes and cookware and lots of special decorative touches. I hope that you will enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed putting it all together for you. Come sit on the porch and watch the boats go by and enjoy a little bit of Maine for yourself - it's lovely in any season!

Ebb and Flow is perfect, peaceful and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just lovely. Every need was anticipated and beautifully addressed, and the owners were very responsive. We loved the décor and comfort of the rooms and the beautiful views of the water. Only ten minutes from Rockland, the actual neighborhood was very quiet and peaceful, but plenty of sightseeing close by if you love quaint harbor towns! If you rent this cottage, be sure to have breakfast at the Salty Owl, literally a snack bar at the local airport with the most amazing food!

All in all, it was a great experience and we hope to return to Ebb and Flow in the future.

This is a cozy home in a wonderful location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Ebb and Flow is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. The house was very clean and the kitchen was outfitted with all the essentials including several things which are generally missing in most of the homes we have rented through Home Away (plastic wrap, baggies, aluminum foil, spices, cooking spray/olive oil). The home owners left a generous welcome basket for us (thank you!) which was a very nice surprise. The beds are extremely comfortable. The house is located across the street from the water and there are houses directly across the street that have the waterfront views. You can however see between the houses and you have a pretty good view of the water from the deck and the front yard. You can also see the water from the living room and two of the bedrooms. There is plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture. Owl's Head State Park is nearby and a lovely place to spend time. Crescent Beach is a short walk if you are not carrying more than a book and a towel - if you have chairs, etc. you will need to drive.

We had a wonderful sea breeze flowing through the house the entire time we were there which was the first week in September. The neighborhood is very quiet with minimal traffic and virtually no noise at night. Rockland has some good restaurants and a great museum and Camden is only around 30 minutes away with many more shops and restaurants. Don't miss the Salty Owl which is located at the small local airport - the food is excellent.

Ebb and Flow was an excellent place to feel like you were away from it all while still being close to many activities. We come to Maine almost every year and will likely return to Ebb and Flow in the future. We definitely recommend it!

A Wonderful 50th Anniversary Week

  • 5 of 5

We sailed the coast of Maine for 25 years but sold our boat about 10 years ago. We decided over a year ago to to return to Maine to celebrate our 50th anniversary and searched for the perfect spot and perfect house and found both in Ebb and Flow. Although the view shown on the site is different from the actual (a house has been built in the middle of it), we loved the new, larger porch where we spent a great deal of time and most dinners! The landscaping and grilling area look new, too!

This darling cottage was a perfect spot from which to visit Rockland, Camden, the Owls Head Light, Thomaston, great museums, great shopping and wonderful local dining! It is also located about 5 minutes from the Regional Airport where our son arrived mid-week. We found everything stocked for the perfect week in Maine. In the South, we call the decor "Elegantly Shabby" which is not a bad thing - it simply means comfortable, slip-covered and painted furniture that is beautifully distressed - each piece lovingly acquired. We loved it!! Our only complaint is that our son is well over 6 feet and he found the double bed a little "challenging".

I did have to call Kathy to locate the hair dryer (which was hiding in the third drawer instead of the first). She was quick to respond and lovely to deal with.

This is definitely a place to return to should we be able to venture back to Maine in the coming years! Thank you, Kathy and Walt for sharing your precious home.

Lovely cottage in Owls Head

  • 5 of 5

"Ebb and Flow" is a delightful cottage and a wonderful place to spend time in Maine. The cottage is located in a lovely, quiet neighborhood that we enjoyed walking around in. It's also very pretty on the inside with lots of decorative touches (such as attractive pictures on the walls) that make it very special. Kathy & Walt have also equipped it with everything you need, including a personal favorite of mine: plenty of facial tissue. The cottage is convenient to Rockland which has plenty of restaurants, galleries, and a grocery store. The area is quiet and not difficult to find. While the house is not directly on the water (as is clear from the write-up), we could sit in the living room and look out on the ocean. This was a wonderful home away from home.

This is our third year and we were pleasantly surprised with the new deck & beautiful landscape. The house is always exceptionally clean and complete with whatever you need to have a great vacation. We’ll continue to go back as long as they’ll have us.
