About this property

Maine Waterfront Cottage: Nestled on an acre of land, with 500ft of shore front

Sea Lavender Cottage, located in Mid Coast Maine (right near the twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle), is ready for your enjoyment.

Sited within feet of Great Salt Bay, this recently "re-minted" cottage sports creative architectural touches, extensive cottage-focused style, and refreshing amenities. Features comfortable furnishings, updated bathrooms, as well as all new appliances and fixtures. The cottage's appearance and attitude invites and inspires relaxing engagement with all of nature's salt water activity on Great Salt Bay (Maine's first marine protected resource).

You will share this natural beauty with eagles, osprey, blue herons, loons, an occasional seal, prehistoric horseshoe crabs, oyster farms, and in the spring, over a million Alewives passing by the dock to spawn in nearby Damariscotta Lake––after climbing a classic 1500 foot fish ladder (first constructed in 1807), which is just a short walk down the road.

The very first Cottage guests said they come to Maine each summer to explore and discover all the unique activities of coastal Maine and its villages. Yet they found Sea Lavender Cottage so comfortable, joy filled , and emotionally fulfilling, they did not want to leave each day....except to launch kayaks and join the beauty of the Bay.

Now it is your turn...

The remodel of Sea Lavender Cottage was completed in 2016 and enjoys many returning guests each year to enjoy the many charms of Mid Coast Maine and the relaxing setting of Great Salt Bay. This property also features convenient access to US Route One (just a mile away) and is less than 5 minutes from twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle.

More Property Details:
The primary BR is extra large with a King bed and an ensuite bath which features an oversized, tiled, walk in shower. The second BR features a Queen bed (from Room and Board) and is directly across the hall to a full bath, complete with a tub and shower combination.

All 1800 square feet of living space are on the main floor. The 600 square feet finished lower level with full size picture windows and walk out access to the dock is fully furnished and includes lots of space for activities. An item frequently enjoyed is the full size pool table. One recent guest even set up a practice putting green!

Open a door off the living room and an adjustable awning covered second level deck above the shorefront with comfy cushioned furniture is there to enjoy any time of day. Frequently there is a stare down between Cottage guests sitting on the deck and a s/he Bald Eagle keeping watch on top of a very tall utility pole adjacent to her/his six foot wide nest with mate and fledgling high in a pine tree. A quick paddle in a kayak takes you to the island in the bay with these magnificent birds who stay put, even acting bored with each new set of eyes on them...

A perfect day at the Cottage is capped with an evening fire in the fire circle with the little kid in all of us enjoying deliciously crunchy and gooey S'mores.....

Wonderful stay
Amazing property, even better than the photos. Dave is a fantastic host and it was truly a wonderful stay. We had nice weather and really enjoyed going out on the deck to enjoy the sun. Also played lots of pool and the sun rise in the morning is breathtaking. We will hope to return soon!

Peace and quiet
My friend Val and I were looking for some serenity for a few days and we found it in Newcastle. The views from the house are magical and watching the wildlife interact with the bay was just fantastic. I cannot think of a single negative to share and we plan on going back in the spring.

A Mainer––who spent 42 years "away" attending college, serving in the Navy, as well as a career with non-profit educational/medical institutions. Returned to live with the ocean, the values, and the charms of coastal Maine, its people and visitors. Now retired, but active in community volunteering, travel, and recreational aviation as a pilot and plane owner.

Why they chose this property

Its location perched at the edge of the Bay with 200 degrees of water views....US Route 1 along the Maine Coast is one mile away: the twin villages of Damariscotta and Newcastle with restaurants, shops, theater coffee shops and a great bookstore and library, are a mile and half from the Cottage.

What makes this property unique

Refreshingly appointed for comfort, carefree relaxing, and in concert with a natural and diverse saltwater habitat....hearing the "ahs" and "oh my" when guests first enter the Cottage bring a smile and satisfaction to the details of the total makeover of every inch of the original cottage...inside and out!
