Balm Lake has a variety of fish species; ex. walleye, sunfish, bass, crappie and northern pike. An enclosed fish cleaning house is located on site, which allows you to clean fish without the weather and bugs being an issue. Please bring your own filet knife!!

enjoyable lake house

  • 5 of 5

Very enjoyable lake house with plenty of space. Nice to have seating for lots of people. Kids really enjoyed Foosball table. Nice views from sun room overlooking the lake. Pots, cups, plates, etc were well stocked. Lake was enjoyable and easy to boat on.

Cons (pretty minimal)

Some beds seemed soft, but this is a personal preference as much as anything.

Sand by the lake could use a little replenishing.

House cleaning could be a little better(popcorn under the couch), but in general the place was very clean. (Bit of nitpicking)

Wonderful vacation home on beautiful Balm Lake.

  • 4 of 5

We were so impressed with the clarity of Balm Lake, great fishing on this lake also. We caught lots of sunfish, bass, walleye, and northern. Our grandchildren enjoyed the paddle boat and gazebo available also. They enjoyed the lake, swimming, fishing and tubing. The home was furnished with everything needed for our weeks stay. There is plenty of space for meal time seating, all the cooking utensils needed for meal preparation, bathrooms stocked with towels, fans available for use, etc. These homeowners have thought of everything! Our only negative comments are the LP tank for the gas grill was empty our first evening there (we had to drive an hour to get it replaced) and the water for the home has a high iron content so was orange at times. There is a water softener there but didn't seem to be working correctly. Other than those things, our stay was a very pleasant experience and had a wonderful time with great weather and beautiful surroundings!

Owner's Response: We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. I apologize for the LP tank, we do try to ensure those are filled prior to your stay, so must have had an issue prior to your arrival. We hope you consider coming again!

Great time

  • 4 of 5

This was our third year at this vacation home and again we have had a wonderful time! The fish cleaning house was put to good use. We had a good time swimming. This year they added a lakeside gazebo and that was an added bonus. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Appreciated the privacy this location offered. Also liked having a laundry room and the many bedrooms. Owners were very helpful and accommodating. Would recommend this place to others.

The property is in very good condition, with plenty of extra's if you forget something at home.

This is a Lake Home - not a cabin. We were delighted when we first entered the home. We had every thing we needed, lots of space inside. and a very peaceful outdoor either seating or eating, whichever you wanted to do. All appliances seemed newer and worked perfectly. The lake is small, but it made it easier for kayaking, paddle boating, since the smaller lake size kept large waves from developing. It is a very relaxing, comfortable home. We had a wonderful time.

Peaceful, private home on a quiet lake

  • 4 of 5

Our party of six adults and five children found the Balm Vista house to be well stocked, and roomy enough for everyone to spread out and relax. It was a great benefit to have two bathrooms, which is tough to find in this price point. Being able to do laundry while there was a plus. The property's dock and floating gazebo were a highlight for the kids, as they were able to catch sunfish virtually every time they cast their lines. The water was so clear you could watch the fish take the bait! A drawback to this lake was that the sunfish and the occasional small bass was all we caught. There wasn't much for bigger fish, which might explain the surprising lack of boaters/fishermen there during our stay. Another drawback of the lake was a very muddy bottom and lots of shells to cut little feet. Definitely wear footwear if you plan to swim in it! The owners do provide kayaks and a peddle boat for a fee, and these were wonderful to have. We definitely used them to explore the lake and enjoy the scenery around the shore. The nearest "large" town (Bemidji) is about a half hour drive away. We visited a few times to explore the quaint downtown boutiques, souvenir shops, and restock on groceries. Overall, this is a good property if your intention is to just get away from it all for awhile, and aren't hung up on catching trophy fish or having a sandy bottom swim area for the little ones.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments, the shells can be heavier at times and we do attempt to blow them out of the swimming area a few times during the summer. We hope to see you again during future trips.
