Welcome to Rainbow View Cabin, less than an hour from the DC beltway in the Blue Ridge Mountains of VA with magnificent views overlooking the Shenandoah Valley! Enjoy remote solitude just 9 miles from the historic village of Front Royal. Get away to another world of stress-free country living.

(And at an elevation of 1,738 feet it's always 10-15 degrees cooler than the city!).

(If Rainbow View is booked or you need a 3BR, please see our other cabin - Valley Vista, listing 906064.)

There are 2 bedrooms, a full bath, a fully equipped kitchen (including icemaker, coffee maker & grinder, microwave, crock-pot, etc.), a washer/dryer, and fireplace*. Linens, towels and soap are providedǂ. All you need to bring is your food and clothes.

On the large deck, enjoy the hot tub and fire cauldron (wood supplied) with tables and chairs, and both gas and charcoal grills. (Charcoal is not supplied, but is usually left behind by previous guests.)

Convenient to local wineries, caverns, Shenandoah River and Shenandoah National Park/Skyline Drive.

We are a hands-on operation, living only 1/4 mile away, so your experience here will feel a bit more personal than at a typical vacation rental. We enjoy providing our guests with a special experience and hope that you'll appreciate the idyllic setting and all the little extras offered.

Self check-in time: anytime after 4 PM / Check-out time: anytime before 11 AM

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The last mile of road is gravel. Check our website for a video.

We welcome well behaved dogs. There is a $30 pet fee. If the pet fee is not prepaid at booking, it will be deducted from your security deposit refund. Be advised that there is a county-wide leash law.

We welcome well behaved children.

You should note however that the environment is not particularly conducive to small children's enjoyment. There's no lawned yard to play in, the terrain is very steep and rocky, and the woods has poison ivy and snakes. Inside and on the deck we have not addressed any child safety issues as we have no experience in that regard and it's not been our focus clientele. There is no community playground, and the youngest kids in the neighborhood are of junior high age. The community lakes have no beaches, lifeguards, or restrooms. The closest playground is about 12 miles from the cabin in Front Royal .

Motorcycles are welcome, but even though neighbors on the road have them, every guest who has brought one has complained about the road, so just be advised.

In winter 4WD or AWD may be required. The County is diligent in plowing, but roads can remain icy long after a storm. VRBO offers trip insurance. Enterprise in Front Royal has RAV4s for $70/day. In the event the road is impassible even for 4WD, rescheduling is allowed for available dates of equal value. (We live on the same road so we can keep you advised of current conditions.)

ATVs, discharging firearms, outdoor fires before 4 PM, and disturbing noise after 10 PM are prohibited by various ordinances and covenants.

* Fireplace is for ambiance only. Continual use will cause bedrooms to become cold. It is for burning Duraflame-type logs only, and only one at a time. During cold weather, one log (a 3 hour burn) is furnished for each day of your stay. For a longer burn than that you should bring your own.

(Due to past issues, burning regular wood is allowed only in the cauldron on the deck. Filling the cabin with smoke may result in your security deposit being withheld.)

ǂThere is no extra charge for the number of guests (max 4), but we supply the cabin for your visit based on the number you tell us will be coming.

We do offer a 10% discount to active duty military and retirees. Please advise us at the time of your request and please be honest about your status. We have had issues in the past.

Please access and like our Facebook page - Rainbow View Cabin - as that is where we post info about local restaurants specials, events, info about Shenandoah Park and any discounts we are offering on the cabin.

About Steve & Chris

We live just down the road a piece.

Steve & Chris purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Steve & Chris chose Shenandoah Valley

We've lived in this little rural mountain community for 30 years, and we've long admired the view from this particular property, so when the opportunity arose to acquire it, we jumped at the chance!

What makes this cabin unique

From the world's largest concentration of wild trillium to the abundant wildlife, whether sledding the hills, or just whiling away a lazy afternoon at the winery, we always enjoy each and every day on this mountain. Now you can also enjoy the view from the expanded deck and the hot tub.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for all the thoughtful things you had that we forgot and everything you had ready for the stay. Beautiful, awesome view, home décor, hot tub. Just perfect home away from home.

Perfect Getaway

 • 5 of 5

I'm not the kind of person who searches for negatives. Even if I was I doubt I would find a single one at Rainbow View! What a great experience! Thank you Chris and Steve for allowing me an early check-in. Thank you also for the tip about parking. My little Honda Fit appreciates it also! I was thrilled as soon as I went in. SO clean and fresh. All the notes and hints with humor and some sarcasm are awesome and really quite helpful. The kitchen had everything you could possibly want or need. The furniture was cozy and comfortable. Bed and linens and towels were heavenly. Loved sitting on the deck watching the birds come and go and a beautiful black cat that watched me watching it. I soaked in the wonderful hot tub every night and had a fire in the fireplace on the 2 chilly nights. Thank you for the duraflame logs! I haven't been so relaxed in quite awhile. I can't wait to return soon and come back to some peace, quiet, mountain air and friendly welcoming people. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with others

It was Nice, fit the need very well !!

Always start with the 'GOOD' I say.....The Hot Tub was awesome and much enjoyed by us two 'Senior Citizens' !! :) It helped tremendously on our aches and pains. The Massage Specialist on our first night was a perfect start to our stay! And as the Grill Master, I especially like cooking on the Grill, which offered Propane on one side, and a Charcoal Smoker on the other side. I used both for our meals during our stay. I did bring my own charcoal and Hickory Wood Chips to insure I had it. We ate good all weekend.....and especially our Steak and Lobster that came out GREAT for our anniversary dinner. Topped with the Complimentary Bottle of wine (THANK YOU !), from Fox Meadows Winery, which we did visit and purchase additional wine. ! Our two furry kids (Buster and Leia) also enjoyed their stay. They liked the closed in Deck and short hikes around the neighborhood. They also say 'thank you' for the special dishes set for them ! All the things we needed except (food/clothes of course) were there and ready to go. Altho, on our 'movie night', we do enjoy popcorn, but sadly the pop corn maker did not work. Oh, well, Plan B, Nachos and dip filled in quite well ! Now, remember, earlier I said we were 'Senior Citizens', and over time, we have gotten used to a 'FIRM' mattress, so we found this mattress a bit soft for us, but we survived !! :) Again, The Hot Tub, removed the aches !! :) We were surprised to find a 'musty' odor when we first arrived, since there were folks just before our stay. But the weather being good (first have of our stay).....we aired it out and all was then great. So overall, we did enjoy our stay. we had everything we needed for what we were looking for; privacy, peace & quiet, beautiful view and very accommodating home away from home. Thank you Chris and Steve, you have a great place ! Denny and Lorraine !

Owner's Response: Thank you for being our guests and we hope are glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry about the popcorn maker but when we have people checking out/in the same day we don’t have time to check every non-crucial appliance which are perks. We appreciate you pointing out it was acting up.

Perfect!

 • 5 of 5

This is such a treasure, a hidden jewel. My sister and I like to get away to catch-up and this location and accommodations fit the bill perfectly. I wish my house was this organized, everything was provided to make our visit enjoyable and relaxing. The views are breath taking and there is plenty to do. We enjoyed "Art at the Mill" at the Burwell-Morgan mill in Millwood. Will be back. The hot tub was wonderful

A wonderful place to stay. Quiet, beautiful view, very clean and comfortable. Well equipped. Hosts were great- lovely bottle of wine awaiting, snacks, and even the makings for s'mores. Over the top thoughtful. Hot tub a huge bonus, and we could not have been more pleased!

Anniversary Getaway

 • 5 of 5

Rainbow View was just perfect for what we were looking for. It was private, clean and well finished. You truly do not need to bring anything but your clothes and food- they have thought of everything and even more! We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub which was ready upon our arrival. We loved the view from the deck, the grill, and visiting birds and squirrels but the hummingbird was just the cutest! I was surprised that the ivy growing from the tree just off the deck was in the shape of a heart. We enjoyed playing several games and loved reading the journals. The decorative style of the cabin is just beautiful, I personally love Indian artifacts and wood. The map showing where visitors have come from amazed us. Steve and Chris are always quick to respond to all messages and very informative of the surrounding area to explore. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away, slow down and remember what life is about. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! We will be back, thanks Chris and Steve:)
