About Deborah or Dan
We bought this gîte in 2012 from the couple next door. They had operated it as a gîte for 10 years before retiring. We have updated the property significantly since then, with a new kitchen, bathroom, floors, and artwork. We added wifi and flatscreens, crepe makers and a stainless fridge. Outside we have added stone features and cleared the view. We spend time each summer there ourselves, so we know how to make it comfortable and inviting. Most of all, we enjoy it as a respite from the urban California lifestyle we experience most of the year. It is a place we can count on to renew our natural and rustic spirits, appreciate a simpler life--birds, roosters, and farmer's market dinners--and we hope you can enjoy it for the same reasons we do! Please ask about our special itinerary, tried and true, that you can use directly from the gite.

Why Deborah or Dan chose Coux-et-Bigaroque
Why Gîte Le Recoux? Because you might need to truly unwind, find a simple pace, some long nights of sleep, and cook a nice meal. Let the kids run freely around the property without worry, and relax with a view that rewards you from every direction. If you are looking for five-star accommodations with urban conveniences, we advise you to look elsewhere. If you need to get away, read, think, play, eat, live--we invite you!
What makes this Cottage unique
Unique benefits of this property include experiencing the feeling of authentique Perigordine style and charm--with all period features preserved--but renovated for modern living. Also, your stay comes with a complete customized itinerary to remove the guesswork "what will we do today?" The location is within the "golden triangle" of the Perigord Noir - ideal for experiencing all of the sites that are popular with tourists. You won't find yourself driving 10 miles down the same winding road every day to finally reach a connecting route. If you have children, the proximity to Audrix (swimming park, night markets, and horseback riding) are ideal. Saint Cyprien, Coux, and Siorac (all 3-5 miles driving) have all restaurants, bars, morning and evening markets, and supermarkets that you need. Many feel that staying in or near Sarlat is the prime location but Sarlat is located at the eastern side of the valley. We adore Sarlat, but Saint Cyprien, in our opinion, is more central. Watch out the traffic in Sarlat during July and August can be dreadful! Still, reaching Sarlat from our gîte is only 25 minutes and a lovely drive along the hillside ridge, or through the valley. Finally, the best reward of all at the Gîte Le Recoux: quiet, calm, 360-degree views, warm sun on your face all day long with a south-facing position, and a simple, lovely cottage with everything you need for your stay. Enjoy!

Perfect Dordogne retreat
Huge thanks Deborah for letting us stay at your beautiful holiday home in the Dordogne. A fantastic base for us as we explored the area with our children where we had such fun. Canoeing down the Dordogne, visiting the local daytime and evening markets, heading to the candlelit Marqueyssac gardens, visiting caves, the forest of the Monkeys, Rocque St Christophe with lots of rope swings along the way!
Your itinery was the perfect guide for us to get the most out of our 7 days and we hope to return to the Dordogne again.
Huge thanks for being the perfect hosts, answering our numerous questions in advance and calling us during the week to make sure all was ok.
We are now home with fond memories. Would definitely recommend to all.
It was a pleasure hosting your family and we hope to see you on a return trip!
July - September the gourmet night markets are a must-see. At these markets, you bring your own plates, glasses, and utensils (provided at the gite), and visit the stalls to taste all of the local specialties. The food is outstanding. The Perigord is home of the black truffle and foie gras. Three-star food every time, often with music and dancing. The Audrix market bakes fresh bread in the village kiln. Belves market on 14 July is an especially unique event.
