About the property

Farmhouse & Cottages

River Farm comprises two cottages for rental - ANNIES COTTAGE, sleeping 6 and one of the most popular holiday cottages in Kerry and RIVER COTTAGE, sleeping 5 - an original Kerry Farmhouse that has been lovingly renovated and updated over the last ten years. Both cottages are surrounded by fields and a small stream runs through the property. It is very safe for children as both cottages are approached via a small ‘dead end’ lane which runs up to the mountain behind the cottages. The owners fields are occupied by pet sheep and lambs (in season), together with donkeys and free range hens. Views of the sea are possible from the garden as well as from Annie’s Cottage. Inch Beach with it's four miles of white sand and dunes(and increasingly a surfing and paragliding mecca) is no more than 15 minutes drive, whilst the beauty of Killarney National Park and it's lakes are also within easy reach. A local grocery shop (8am to 10pm, daily) is only 10 mins. walk away. Dogs are welcome.

Proximity to the best Kerry attractions and sites: Annie's Cottage is ideally situated for Killarney National Park, and the Kerry Way, the Dingle Peninsula and Tralee.

A 30 minute drive will allow you to visit Muckross House, the famous Killarney Lakes, Angel Falls, Ross Castle, the old Copper mInes, the Gap of Dunloe and Kate Kearney's Cottage as well as walk throughout the beautiful meadows, mountains and woods of Killarney National Park.

From Killarney you can embark on the Kerry Way by foot or cycle or drive to the end of the Ring of Kerry (and back) visiting Killorglin, Glebeigh, Caherciveen, Valentia Island, Waterville, Caherdaniel, Sneem and Kenmare - a memorable journey indeed.

Similar excursions by car and foot can take place on the Dingle Peninsular discovering the wild scenery, breathtaking mountain passes and white sandy beaches. This peninsular also has the highest concentration of megalithic sites in Europe.

A catalogue of festivals - food, music, culture, film and horseracing - take place throughout the year

About Nick Wynne-Morgan

Anne & I have lived in Kerry for the last 16 years but prior to that spent every summer enjoying the beauty and attractions of this beautiful part of the world. We have seven children and an increasing number of grandchildren. We love the Kerry scenery and the friendliness of the people and the local community here.

Nick Wynne-Morgan purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Nick Wynne-Morgan chose County Kerry

River Cottage is located on the Dingle Peninsula, off the main road but close enough to both Killarney and Dingle town. It is a quiet and a safe place for children to stay and is located amongst 4 acres of smallholding on which we have our donkeys, sheep & lambs, cats and a dog as well as our orchard and organic vegetable gardens. There are views of the Slieve Mish mountains behind and the sea in front of the cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Location, Views, Pets & animals, a river running through the property, safe environment for children, owners on site to help with any question, lovely gardens and safe walks to the sea or mountains.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We would like to thank you for making our time at the cottage so warm and inviting. We had a wonderful time exploring your neck of the woods and are already planning a return trip.

We liked being greeted by the animals every time we came back after a long day!

Thanks again. Wishing you both many more years of health & happiness.

RIVER COTTAGE is at least 150 years old and is a classic original 'Three room stone-built Kerry farmhouse' ( although we have increased its size over the years. It has been sympathetically renovated , retaining many of the features of the original cottage, including slate floors, lime wash walls, sash windows and the large open fireplace and wood burning stove in the main living room. The cottage has full oil-fired central heating and has a southerly aspect so is light , cosy and warm throughout the year. The spacious kitchen and dining area have been added on to the back of the cottage and were designed for our own family of nine. As such, they provide extensive entertaining, cooking and relaxation space for a small cottage and open out onto the wooden decking and barbeque area and pictoresque cottage garden at the rear. Views of Caherconree (Ireland's 4th highest mountain) and the Slieve Mish mountains are possible from both the kitchen and dining area

Beautiful old farm house on the magnificent Dingle peninsula

  • 5 of 5

We much enjoyed our stay -- feeding carrots to the donkeys, reading Irish poets by the wood fire, exploring the antiquities on the Dingle peninsula, feasting on the fish and great desserts at Sammy's, long walks on the beach, and the stone walls of Gallarus Oratory were magnificent. We much preferred our quiet explorations on the Dingle to the more commercialized Ring of Kerry, but what a joyous visit we had during our 3 days in the area. Being there in October to see the beauty of autumn provided a great occasion for rest and restoration. Thank you for this opportunity!

Owner's Response: Yes, the Dingle Peninsula has more character and is more manageable than the Ring of Kerry. Glad you agree with us on this and had such a good time exploring it. Come again!

Cozy and quaint with friendly owners

  • 5 of 5

Exactly what my friend and I needed. We landed in Shannon and spent 5 nights there at the cottage. We were able to go at our own pace and Nick gave us many helpful suggestions of what to do with our time there. Loved being surrounded by the animals and beauty of staying out on the truly WILD Atlantic Way.

Owner's Response: We love friendly guests! Ashley & Rachel were very relaxed even though they were suffering from jetlag on Day 1. The 150 year old Irish cottage is quaint and has been refurbished to give it an air of tradition as well as a quiet & cosy base for touring and exploring. All our guests enjoy the fact that it has been there for so long, located in the foothills of the Slieve Mish mountains and just a 5 minute walk to the sea (and surrounded by nature of course).

Good location for exploring Dingle and Killarney

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable and cozy cottage in a great location to explore Dingle and Killarney. Hosts were very welcoming and the gardens were beautiful. Could have been a bit cleaner although I realize it is an old and charming cottage and lacked a few basic amenities in the kitchen. It was close to a few good bars and restaurants but you would have to drive. Inse Beach was great for a morning or evening walk. We stayed four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review of our cottage and we're glad you enjoyed your stay We are not sure what 'basic amenities' in the kitchen were apparently missing as nothing was mentioned and as far as we are concerned, the kitchen is very well equipped and lacks nothing (of a basic nature anyway) - dishwasher, toaster, kettle. large 8 hob range, microwave oven, two further ovens and a full set of plates, pots, pans, french coffee press, cutlery and glasses. But maybe we're missing something! Please let us know and we'll put it right immediately.

Owner's Response: Thank you! Yes, although time consuming and a lot of work, we do love the fact that our garden and 4 acres of grounds are appreciated by all our guests (and our own animals) and that the views from it are of both the Slieve Mish mountains behind and the sea, in front.

Lovely property and cottage! Animals were so fun! Could use a little upkeep and dusting

  • 4 of 5

Great location to discover the area! Lovely owners! Lots of space in the cottage - very homey. 3.5/5

Owner's Response: Not sure if the comments - "could do with a little upkeep and dusting" refers to the donkeys or the cottage !! But thanks for taking the trouble to express you views and it was a pleasure to host you all. Obviously we do thoroughly clean ( and dust!) the cottage in between lettings but old cottages sometime just have that sense of history that is contrary or different to some of today's modern interior fittings. We're glad you liked the cottage - we'll give the donkeys a good dusting!

Outrageously beautiful and marvelously relaxing

  • 5 of 5

You could not ask for a more beautiful location, a cozier cottage, or a lovelier couple from whom to rent. We spent almost a week on the Dingle peninsula as the less hectic part of our Ireland adventure and it was every bit as relaxing and pretty as we hoped. The cottage itself is well appointed and comfortable. It has gorgeous stone floors, a first class kitchen and a garden view that makes washing dishes a pleasure. As Americans, we found the beds firmer than what we're used to but that's more "fair warning" for fellow visitors from the US than a concern with the cottage. We loved visiting with and feeding treats to the sheep and donkeys and playing with the dog, Yala. We had wonderful sunshine as well as some rain and wind which made the wood burning stove a welcome addition. We would certainly stay here again and would recommend it to others. It is a gem!
