Beautiful finca in a breathtaking location.

  • 5 of 5

My parents, my husband & myself stayed here for an idyllic week at the end of September and almost don't want to review it as its the kind of place you want to stay a well kept secret!

From initial inquiries to the end of the holiday the owners Colin & Francesca were fantastic hosts, always contactable and extremely helpful.

The Finca is beautiful and really well equipped, comfortable beds & aircon in all the bedrooms. The outside spaces & the pool area are all overlooking stunning open landscape & amazing geological rock formations which are a home to vultures, eagles & Ibex making for interesting watching.

Although well equipped enough to make this a relaxing pool side holiday I would highly recommend getting out & about. The Caminito Dey Rey is an absolute must but there are also plenty of well marked walking trails in the area. There are also several historical & geological sites close by and many interesting towns & villages within driving distance.

The other thing to note is that the Rocabella restaurant is a convenient 1.1k walk away from the Finca if you don't fancy driving to eat out.

All in all this is one of the best holiday homes we have stayed in and I would highly recommend it for anybody who likes an active holiday or just wants to spend a chilled out week by the pool. Thankyou Colin & Francesca.

Owner's Response: Dear Helen and Guy, Stuart and Valerie, Thank you all so much for staying at La Majada Alta cottage and for taking the time to write such a brilliant review. It was a pleasure to meet you briefly and your father, Stuart, was an inspiration to the older generation. We understand he wanted to walk the Caminito del Rey twice !! Many thanks for the 5* review which is appreciated by all of us. Our very best regards, Colin and Francesca.

20 Minutes from Camino Del Rey

  • 5 of 5

Perfect Spanish Casita! It is 20 minutes from the Camino Del Rey. It is built on a hillside and has a lovely view over the valley. It was one of the cleanest rentals I have stayed at. The sheets were fresh and clean. There was plenty of firewood, however it is important to pick up meal supplies before arriving. We stopped at the Carrefour in Antequerra. Basic spices were provided-salt, pepper, etc. The directions were easy to follow. Our hosts were pleasant and helpful.

A beautiful mini honeymoon stay in paradise

  • 5 of 5

Colin and Francesca were amazing and helpful from the moment we booked to the moment we left. We were met in a nearby town after a beautiful drive from Marbella. And let me tell you, the views driving to the house are amazing, and somehow even better when you get to the villa itself. Colin and Francesca left us some lovely basic supplies in the fridge, even a bottle of bubbly ! Which we drank by the beautiful pool the second we unpacked. The villa traditionally decorated and very clean. It's extremely peaceful and tranquil.... and oh my the sunsets and sunrises will be some that we never forget! The hillside and mountain formations are extremely pretty. And one afternoon we even had the pleasure of seeing some wild Spanish ibex visit the pool - which was a surreal and wonderful moment being so connected to a herd of wild animals. Thank you to you both for truly making our stay one we will never forget!

Idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful family holiday- firstly I echo a earlier r/v about the correspondence between the owner Colin and ourselves which was prompt and he went beyond the call of duty to access a guitar for our daughter whilst there, and gave us lots of useful information about the local area and the feria.

The meeting arrangements were clear and we were met to take us the last couple of kms.

The property itself and its surroundings were breathtaking- the pictures on homeaway and their own website gave us high expectations but it was actually even better in reality. Visits by the ibex, watching the vultures soaring, the sound of an eagle owl as well as the tinkle of the goat herds were daily occurrences and we were happy to spend a number of days by the immaculately kept pool and gardens.

Overall a fantastic place to stay and we would definitely consider booking again.

Absolutely Fantastic 2 weeks

  • 5 of 5

We are just back today having spent a fabulous 2 weeks in this wonderful cottage. My wife and I went with my son, his wife, and their 2 children aged 8 and 11. The children were in the pool every day (as were the adults) and it was a joy to see how much they enjoyed their time there. Add to that the lovely surroundings for our meals each day and the time we spent watching the vultures circling overhead and the Ibex who visited virtually every day to have a drink from the pool and you might just imagine how good this was. We did have a problem on the first day of arrival when a tyre on the car was absolutely ruined but Colin and his nephew Jose were on hand to help us get a new tyre fitted by the local garage. It did take a few days as the tyre required to be ordered before it could be fixed but that just forced us to start our holiday by spending most of the time at the cottage. A fantastic holiday for all the family. Thanks to Colin, Francesca, and the family.

A little bit of paradise in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

I usually don't write reviews of my stays on HomeAway but was moved to make this my first.

Firstly a huge thanks to Colin. I have never before experienced correspondence as good as what we received before and during our stay. Although we didn't require special assistance, the offer was there and I get the impression Colin would go to the ends of the earth for his guests.

Colin wasn't in Spain but provided the numbers for two family members to contact to collect the keys.We were met by Jose in a nearby town and followed him up to the house. There were no restrictions on times and we arranged to meet up at 18:00, all we had to do was phone when we arrived and Jose was there in 5 minutes.

If you haven't driven in the mountains outside Malaga get a car and do it. The roads are like pool tables with a good few near the house being newly tarmaced while we were there. The journey from Malaga is 40 miles of snaking twists, turns and hairpins through beautiful countryside culminating in a cheeky off road hill climb ;) I'm itching to get back on a motorbike!!

When you get up to the cottage its just beautiful. Its looks small from the front but once you're through the door the tardis effect kicks in.

The kitchen dining area is huge and very well equipped easily accommodating the 6 of us as we unpacked groceries and luggage.

The living area is also large and comfortably furnished..

All the bedrooms were a good size.

The main bathroom is ginormous and the shower comes at you like a fire hose. You get a massage while you shower, Perfect!!

There is full sky TV and wifi broadband as quick as what I have at home.

Inside the cottage is spotless.

The outside space at the rear is large with plenty of seating.

There is a gas and traditional BBQ which was perfect for the amount of food we were cooking.

A path and steps snake down from the patio to the pool area. The pool and surrounding patio is amazing with plenty of loungers. The pool was cleaned twice by very discrete maintenance men (we were only there 5 days).

I could turn this in to a 1000 word essay as there are so many positive things to say but will spare you.

We will definitely be back for another stay.

If you are looking around on HomeAway for somewhere to stay stop. You have already found it here.

Thanks again Colin.
