Villa Samphire is located on the north-west coast on the tree studded slope below the traditional village of Tsoukalades and is ideal for a family holiday or a romantic retreat. The village of Tsoukalades is within walking distance for an evening meal and Lefkas Town, with its abundance of exquisite restaurants and cafés is a ten minute drive. The closest sandy/shingle beach is an 12 minute walk down the hill and the best beaches on the island are about 5 min drive on the west coast. The villa is set in private grounds amidst a flourish of Mediterranean herbs, plants and trees. The large paved terrace around the pool has a shaded dining area backed by a beautiful olive tree and plenty of Greek flowers and shrubs. The house is comfortably furnished and both rooms have A/C and open up on to a balcony with unspoilt views reaching out across the beaches of the northern tip of the island and all the way up to Paxos and Corfu. The open plan kitchen/lounge is fully equipped with all mod cons.

the best holiday house we ever had out of 15!
very impressive view, comfortable house, pool etc., nice village and beach nearby, very silent, nice large garden.
Fantastic: The "starter set" with everything you need for the first 2 days.
A perfect villa break
We selected this villa last minute and from the moment of our first enquiry until we left, Lilias and her team couldn't have been more helpful.
The views are spectacular and the villa itself was very comfortable for the four of us. The kitchen is well supplied and there's lots of shade for staying cool and out of the July sun (if that's what you like).
A car is essential as even though close to beach and village as the crow flies, the hills are very steep and it's a mile to drive to the beach and about five minutes to the village. Also, if you're hiring a car, make sure you're allowed to go "off road" as the last bit of approach to the villa is a rough track.
Villa Samphire June 2015
We stayed at Villa Samphire for a week in June and really enjoyed our stay. The views towards Corfu are stunning, and it was nice just to sit and watch the boats sailing in and out of Lefkada, or the Swallows diving down into the pool. The villa itself was one of the best we have stayed at in Greece, and the welcome pack provided was much appreciated. We spent most of our time either at the pool, or exploring some of the beautiful beaches down the west coast.
A car is really essential, since the villa is some distance from the nearest village. There are several nice tavernas in Agios Nikitas, which is about a 15 minute drive, but our favourite was Seven Islands restaurant in Ligia on the east coast.
All in all we couldn't fault the property, but would have preferred if there had been the opportunity to pay by credit card when booking. It worried me to have to transfer money to a greek bank account, but in the event there was no problem.
I would thoroughly recommend Villa Samphire to anyone wanting to "get away from it all" for a week or two to a beautiful peaceful place.
Secluded Villa With Exceptional Views
A Truly relaxing stay. Everything you needed was supplied and an exceptional Welcome Pack provided. Good position for Lefkas town and many other Bays and Tavernas Hopefully will return again Best Regards Mary & Ivan.
Wonderful place for a quiet getaway!
From the minute we arrived, very very early on Sunday the house was ready for our 3 week stay (thank you Lilias)! It is a wonderful place for a family to get away and spend some quality time together. It is completed secluded and peaceful, yet only a few minutes from the fun Lefkada Town with lots of shopping & eating. From this location we were able to see lots of Greece (Delphi, Olympia, Meteora) in a day and come back to a wonderful evening of swimming in the pool. All the beaches were wonderful to visit, but our favorite was the one closest to the house which you could walk to (but it is really steep).
Lilias the property manager, really helped with our whole trip and is a wonderful source of information. She answered all my questions about the house and our reservation very promptly.
We hope to return very very soon!
Beautiful secluded villa with stunning views
My girlfriend and I spent a 2.5 week holiday in Samphire and had a fantastic time. The villa consists of two "wings" consisting of the two bed rooms, one of which has a double bed, the other has twin beds. In the middle is the spacious living room with a simple, but well equipped kitchen at the back of the villa.
From the terrace you have a beautiful view of the Ionian sea and part of the city of Lefkada. The terrace is sunny all day, only at the very end of the day the trees around the house create shadows, during our 2.5 week stay this was usually around 18:00. This means that we didn't see the sun set in the sea, but only a short drive (5-10 min) from the villa there is a secluded beach that Lilias showed us. This beach is oriented to the west, which means you can see beautiful sunsets.
The property was kept very clean, much better than we've experienced in apartments and hotels in Greece. The terrace stays cool, even though temperatures rose to 35°C during our stay. The pool offers some welcome refreshment during the hottest hours as well as the outside shower. It has pool wide stairs on one side and gradually deepens to 1.7m depth. During the day there is plenty of room to sit either in the sun or in the shade of one of the parasols.
If it cools down during the night the television and DVD-set offer some entertainment, though the number of interesting tv-stations is rather limited. There is an internet connection available, but it is wired and didn't work during our stay. Lilias kindly provided us with a mobile internet connection with a USB stick.
There is much entertainment outside too once it gets dark. Many good tavernas in the neighbourhood, offering a variety of fish and meat. We especially enjoyed our visits to Seven Islands in Lygia, owned by a Dutch/Greek couple who are extremely friendly (oh, and the food was great too!). Dining directly next to the water, great! And when you get home you should definitely take the big telescope outside to watch the evening sky. Because the villa is situate quite remotely, there is little light polution and you get a good view of the stars and milky way.
The only downside we could think of is that the mattresses on the beds are very firm. We didn't sleep well on them, but that is just personal preference I guess. Nevertheless we would definitely recommend this villa to whoever wants a peaceful and relaxing holiday with maximum privacy (unoverlooked terrace and pool) and stunning views!
The sleepy village of Tsoukalades is set amongst olive groves on the hills of the north - west coast of Lefkas. The village itself is charming and traditional with narrow streets separating the small houses and there is a gorgeous old cafeneion where the locals meet to chat and drink coffee. Tsoukalades has a handful of small tavernas and restaurants, an excellent bakery, a couple of cafes and a mini market. There are two beautiful and almost private beaches about 3 minutes drive from the village, Kaminia and Gialou Skala; one of the most stunning beaches on the west coast, Pefkoulia, is about 5 minutes drive and Lefkas Town with its Ionian architecture, abundance of shops and exquisite restaurants is about 10 minutes drive. Tsoukalades is famous for the gorgeous sunsets and the most spectacular views of the Ionian; on a clear day the views extend all the way across the sea northwest to Paxos and Corfu!
Lefkas Town, 5 mins drive, is the main commercial centre and has the best shopping facilities on the island. There is a quayside road south of the causeway entrance with a busy marina. The High Street runs through the centre of town and is also known as the ‘Pazari’, this is the main street for shopping and cafes. A mid-morning coffee in the square is ideal for a break and a perfect opportunity to see the Lefkadians in ‘action’! The architecture has been mainly influenced by the Venetians and the post Byzantine traditions but also by the Turkish and the English. The houses in the main part of the town are two storey buildings, very closely packed, without yards or gardens and with narrow alleyways running between them. It is lovely to walk around the back streets of the town where you are also more likely to see the typical Lefkadian houses wrapped in brightly painted corrugated iron.
Ligia, 12 mins drive, is a pretty little coastal village on the east coast with an abundance of great fish tavernas located on the beachfront and on the picturesque harbour. There are a few cafes and bars in the village some of them right on the beach. Nidri, 20 mins drive, is the primary holiday resort on Lefkas. There are a variety of tavernas, restaurants and cafes here, also a handful of bars and a couple of nightclubs. The majority of shopping and tourist facilities are on the main street. On the seafront, known as the ‘Paralia’, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Pringiponissa islands - amongst which is Scorpios, owned by the Onassis family. Cruises and Ferryboats operate from here to Cephalonia and Ithaca.
Agios Nikitas,5 mins drive, is a pretty little village surrounded by fabulous beaches such as Pefkoulia, Kathisma and Kalamitsi. It has adequate tourist facilities, many tavernas, restaurants and a few shops. The nucleus of the village has been placed under preservation order, thus maintaining the traditional Ionian ambience.
Vassiliki, 35 mins drive, in the south is a self-contained tourist resort with a full range of facilities. The harbour is lined with restaurants and cafes and the main street has a fair number of shops. Vassiliki is of particular interest to windsurf fans. Many sailing companies operate from here and you may hire windsurf boards and catamarans on a daily or hourly basis. Vassiliki has a ferry port operating a service to Cephalonia and Ithaca.
Milos Beach – Agios Nikitas
(5 mins drive) To get to it you must go to Agios Nikitas and take a sea taxi operating a taxi service to and from Milos departing from the beach at the end of Agios Nikitas Main Street.
(approx. 20 mins drive). One of the most beautiful beaches on Lefkas. Fine shingle dotted with rock formations and a long stretch of pure white shingle beach. There are two small cafés down here and not much with regards to sun beds and beach facilities.
(approx. 45mins drive) Porto Katsiki, the best known beach, is today considered one of the most outstanding in the whole of Europe. This is a beach of exceptional beauty at the most southern tip of the island. A gorgeous shingle beach framed by high limestone cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise water. There are cafes and tavernas at the beach and sunbed facilities on the beach.
(approx. 35mins drive). 296 or so, steps lead down to this stunning beach virginal fine shingle beach. One of the top beaches in the Ionian Sea this is a must for visitors to Lefkas island. As with Porto Katsiki it is a gorgeous beach framed by high limestone cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise water.
Hiring a motorboat can open up a realm of uninhabited beaches and coves. The motorboat includes the provision of a map of the boating area, buoyancy aids, flares, oars and anchors. Many small coves on the east coast are excellent snorkeling areas where you can enjoy the local marine life such as Sea Urchins, Sea cucumbers, Hermit Crabs, and when overturning stones or rocks perhaps you will be lucky to find a Brittle Starfish or even an Octopus!
