Beautiful Property!!

  • 4 of 5

Our family stayed at the Riverhouse in mid July and really enjoyed walking around the many acres of this property while enjoying the apple orchards, scenic views and streams throughout. There is another rental house on the large property, and we also saw some people camping out in tents at the back of the property; however, it is far enough away where you don't even notice unless you are walking around.

The Riverhouse is a rustic cabin-type home in a mostly wooded area with a nice view of the stream below. Although the AC unit was not working when we arrived, the caretaker quickly came out and fixed the problem. The home had a nice leather sectional couch in the living room with 3 reclining seats that we all enjoyed after a day of hiking and outdoor activities. The back porch was very nice with sounds of the stream below which was very relaxing. The amenities were nice and as described.

Although our experience was mostly positive and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit, I would just like to point out a few issues that we had. The gate to enter the property has a chain and padlock (locked after dark) which is somewhat difficult to open especially if you arrive when its dark. All of the bedding had flannel sheets on them with the exception of one bed which is not very comfortable in mid July especially when the AC was not working when we arrived. I would also recommend that the caretaker come by the house several hours prior to check in to turn on the AC for the incoming guests since the AC unit is supposed to be turned off at checkout. It took several hours once the AC was back on to cool the house down and it ran all night. I would also suggest having an iron available for the guests to use. This is just a minor item but is sometimes needed when traveling.

Tranquility in The Valley

  • 4 of 5

Met our expectations and more. The home and setting are special, cool breezes and the sounds of burbling water sitting on the porch, it was wonderful!

Amazing Get Away

  • 5 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We saw a bad review about too many bugs, too dark, and grass was too tall. I feel the need to point out that if you're looking for suburbs, this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a get away tucked away in the mountain woods, with tons of space (especially if you have dogs) this is the place for you. We all had a great time and hate to leave.

Beautiful property in a very secluded area.

  • 3 of 5

The property is absolutely gorgeous with an amazing view. The house is a very old home that has a lot of character but needs updating. The house was well stocked with supplies, linens, cookware, etc. However, the living room is very dark and does not have sufficient lighting for the space. There is a light fixture and fan but if either work we never could find the switch for them. Also when we arrived at the property it was dark and we had difficulty finding the house due to the multiple roads on the property. A suggestion I have would be to have lighted signs directing you to each property . An area of concern that we had was that even though the property was listed as non smoking it was obvious to us that someone had smoked in the house and tried to cover it up with air freshener. Overall a good vacation home on beautiful property.

Owner's Response: The lighting issue will be taken care of, there are no street lights going down our long drive but the caretaker should have left the outside house lights on for you. The A Frame style to the home makes it difficult to light up the living room with the fan light and 1 lamp but that will be resolved with 1 other floor lamp and 1 more table lamp. As far as the smoke smell I believe it was the fireplace ash reservoir that needed to be cleaned out and it also had a large piece of burnt wood that was clogging the shoot. That has been taken care of. This is an old charming home and we don't really want to make it modern and take away from that charm. We get a lot of people that say that is what they love about it. Thank you for the input.

A heavenly place

  • 4 of 5

We were up at the Riverhouse for 4 days prior to Thanksgiving.......This cabin was near perfection.... although not new, it was well-appointed and well-supplied.....Since it's a bit of a drive back into town, we took our food for 6 people for 4 nights and found the kitchen had everything we needed... the 4-slice toaster was helpful and there were a good supply of dishes and cooking utensils and pots and pans..... The beds were really comfortable and there were plenty of extra pillows and blankets.... There was a bit of a funky smell in the main floor bathroom but airsprays fixed it pretty well.... The fireplace was wonderful, however we went through wood pretty quickly as it was a very cold week.... You'll want to make sure you get all your supplies ahead, including charcoal for the grill, if you plan to stay on the property and not venture off. The drive up from Dahlonega was fabulous with the fall leaves at their peak. We found the living room to be a bit too dark, but it was cozy for sure. The porch and deck were wonderful and spacious.... AHHHH- the property was magnificent..... beautiful in every way from the apple orchard to the rolling hills and the ponds and streams... Our grandson was so excited to meet Brio and Fionna, the horses, so beautiful and friendly!!!

We immediately planned to make another trip in the spring, and wondered if there was more than one cabin available to rent as we'd like to have a family reunion. You will find this stunning property is truly a piece of God's country. The coded gate and house entry was great so we didn't have to keep up with keys. We'll not recommend this place to too many people as we don't want it to become too popular! Ha ha ha..... It's a real "find" and so close to Atlanta.
