About this property

Walk to the Slopes! Peaceful, Wooded Cabin With Modern Updates

Welcome to the mountains!

Kick off your snow boots and settle in for a relaxing stay in the Mountain Jewel, our cozy one-bedroom cabin perfectly located near both slopes and the golf course in Big Bear. Combining classic Americana spirit and modern amenities, the Mountain Jewel has comforts any traveler can appreciate (hello, down comforter, K-Cup coffee, free WiFi, and cable TV!).

Immaculate, Updated Cabin with Nostalgic Americana

A stay in the mountains is good for the soul! As an adult, I wanted to continue the legacy of childhood trips to our family cabin - purchased in 1939 for just 50 cents - with snowy vistas and towering pines, days spent hitting the slopes, and good times with good company. When I saw this cabin in Big Bear, untouched since the 1950s/60s and complete with big game trophies on the walls, I knew it was The One. It was a "diamond in the rough," for sure, but after a full architect-led remodel in 2012, we ended up with exactly the right feel and spirit we wanted, combining the nostalgia of a family cabin with modern upgrades and comforts for guests.

Sink back onto a comfy couch after a day on the slopes. There’s also a modern, fully equipped kitchen any gourmet would be happy to sauté in. There's also a propane BBQ on a small deck for warm evenings.

A devoted entry for outdoor gear keeps things neat. The bedroom with comfy queen bed and hardwood-and-tile bathroom with a tub and shower offer true indulgence for a couple's getaway (there is also a single fold-out bed for one more guest).

Walk to Ski Slopes and Golf Course

Walk to Snow Summit or Bear Mountain Ski Resort (a half-mile away), with a bus stop just two blocks from the house! Also close by, enjoy the breathtaking vistas at the San Bernardino National Forest or tee up at the golf course. Both are just a few blocks away.

The Mountain Jewel is a few miles from the village, far enough off the beaten path to give you a true sense of wilderness and quiet, where clear, starry nights encourage you to cozy up on the couch with a glass of wine.

Our wooded neighborhood is also near a few restaurants, and convenient to all the outdoor activities your adventurer’s heart desires: hiking, zip-lining, birding, mountain biking (with lift access), the Big Bear Alpine Zoo, fishing, and lots more.

Talk to us for other activity recommendations!

Whether you’re here for adventure, relaxation, or to reminisce on your own treasured family vacations – with days spent watching the snow glint off the mountains, and nights spent gathered over stories and mugs of hot cocoa – this is just the place.

Quick Stay
Cozy little cabin had everything we needed. Just an overnight place for a ski trip. Comfortable. Easy check in. Excellent communication. Loved the fact that we could book a single night, as many require a two night stay, especially during ski season…on a weekend.

Nice property great owner
My husband and I quite enjoyed our stay here. Nicely decorated quaint little place. Pros- near the village where we spent a lot of our time, quiet neighborhood, we felt comfortable there and would probably stay again and we have already recommended the property to other people. Only downfalls were the heating unit was either all the way on at 75 degrees and kept getting warmer while it was on, but set lower than 75 and it would turn off and not come back on, so we’d freeze. We had to make the house warm before bed and turn it off when we went to bed or we’d be too hot. Then it was 50 degrees when we got up. The thermostat wouldn’t “talk” to the heater. Since it rained most of one of the days we were there, we were concerned about the leaking window behind the fridge. Didn’t affect anything we were doing, only concerned about the water damage caused to the property.

Growing up in Rockies I have a great love for the out doors. California seems to have everything from beautiful beach to wonderful mountains. My favorite thing about California mountains are the redwoods. I feel at home in the forest.

Why they chose this property

This area is full of towering trees and cute cozy cabins. I have owned a place in the area since 1997. I love getting away from the city to enjoy the outdoors. The slops are near by, the national forest is only 2 blocks away surrounded by the forest and the stars at night.

What makes this property unique

The cabin is really a jewel, quit cozy and everything you need to be comfortable. Close to booth ski slopes, ski shuttle 2 blocks from house.
