About Carol McSwain

Having loved Colorado from the very first time my family and I visited when I was just a young girl, I knew then, that Colorado was where I wanted to live when I grew up. And so, at the age of 20, over 40 years ago, I moved to the place of my dreams.

When my mother would come to visit me during the summers, Estes Park was one place that she wanted to visit each year. Her love of the mountains, especially the charm of Estes Park and the peaceful serenity and beauty the mountains especially Rocky Mountain National Park is something that we both shared. Which is the reason, when I had the chance to purchase Two Pines on Shady Lane, I felt this was one opportunity I just couldn't pass up.

My family and I love to visit Estes Park whenever we can. We love our home and the close proximity to Rocky Mountain National Park not to mention the beauty that surrounds this magical place. This a perfect vacation spot for my family and I believe you will find it to be even better than what you expected as soon as you enter Two Pines on Shady lane.

Carol McSwain purchased this house in 2012

What makes this house unique

Located on one of several migration paths of the elk, hundreds of which pass through this cozy lane. Elk and deer graze in and around Two Pines and often spend the afternoon resting in the yard. Located just one block off the Peak to Peak Scenic Highway. Here is some of the most picturesque scenery in the world. Two Pines offers all the comforts of home with plenty of room for everyone. This home can easily accommodate up to 8 guests comfortably.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We traveled from Tennessee to enjoy the scenery, the climate and hiking with our daughter and son-in-law and 2 grandchildren. At Two Pines we appreciated the fact that you offer a discount to returning guests. The grandkids had a great time and we enjoyed making memories with them. The activities we enjoyed the most were hiking, shopping and the fireworks on the 4th of July.

Tips to future guests: stop and smell the roses!

Our special message to the host: Thank you for sharing your lovely rental home with us. You have done such a great job in decorating it and making it such a wonderful place to stay. Loved your sconces in the entryway. Saw them at Wynbrier home and got them but had them shipped back to TN.

Fabulous cozy place to base your trip into the mountains

  • 5 of 5

My family absolutely loved this home. It was the perfect place to stay and start our trip into Rocky Mountain National Park. It is clean, well equipped, cozy, and very conveniently located near the town as well as the park. Carol was great to deal with! We could not have asked for a better home rental experience!

Family Get Away

  • 4 of 5

This was great for a few days away with our daughter and son in law and two toddler granddaughters

We love to cook - the large kitchen was great. We did grill one evening as well.

We started our days early to hike and came back for lunch and naps

In the evenings we shopped or played games and had popcorn.

The laundry was handy too

Hope we can do this again soon!

Lovely Colorado Home

  • 5 of 5

We came to Estes for a large family vacation - 6 homes with a total of 35 people. We house a group of 6. But one of the best aspects of the home, is that we were able to have "pizza night" and a cookout, with almost everyone. Not all could attend, but we had space enough with the downstairs game room, the outdoor area and large picnic table, that there was no problem for seating.

We loved the layout of the living room, kitchen & dining too. Made it so very pleasant to congregate for our breakfast before everyone leaving to team up for a myriad of activities.

The home has a warm rustic charm, with lovely decorations too.

There is a nice small deck in the front, where we often enjoyed an evening nightcap with our household. A couple evenings, we had a the gas powered fire pit to enjoy a fire, since wood fires are not allowed in Estes, that was an exceptionally nice feature.

The game room downstairs is another great feature of the home. Having children ranging in age from 4 to 15, this provided some relief for the adults as the kids were occupied playing Foosball and watching TV.

Carol was a great hostess - we had a small issue with a toilet, and she attended to it immediately.

Truly, we would recommend this lovely home for larger (or smaller, for that matter) groups to have plenty of space to enjoy their mountain vacation experience.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your glowing, and I might add, thorough review. I am so pleased to know that you and your family enjoyed the time at my home and Estes Park. I have worked very hard to make sure my guests have a memorable vacation and a comfy place to rest after a day of hiking and shopping and enjoying the wildlife. I hope that you will want to come again in the not-too-far future. Thank you again. P.S. It was also a pleasure to meet you and so many of your family members. I don't often get an opportunity to meet my guests and it was nice to know that everyone had such a great time during their stay in Estes Park.

Amazing house in a gorgeous town!

  • 5 of 5

The owner of the property was more than accommodating. She went above and beyond to make sure that we had a crib and a high chair for our stay. The house is beautifully decorated and perfectly clean. The rooms are nice and big and there are lots of windows in the main area. We ended up hosting every dinner for our family reunion because there was plenty of room and everybody felt so comfortable in the house. Hiking was breathtaking and the cute little shops and restaurants downtown where a fun way to spend an afternoon. If you're visiting during the peak season head to the park very early in the morning because the parking lots fill up very quickly. If we got there before 7:30am the entrance gates weren't even open and we got in for free. Park and ride is your best option for parking because even at 7:30 in the morning the parking lots at the trail heads were getting full. Park and ride buses come every few minutes and take you on a very short drive to your trailheads and back to your car. The adventure didn't end as we spent some lazy afternoons napping back at the house. We saw a group of elk come walking through the neighborhood right past the living room window. It was the highlight of the trip for my one year-old! This made planning our next trip to Estes Park very easy because we have the perfect cabin to return to each time.

Wonderful vacation!

Fantastic! Great location, very considerate attention to details and extremely clean and well-kept. I would very highly recommend this property! My family of 6 were extremely comfortable and had ample room to cook, eat and just hang out together. We also made daily trips to Downtown Estes and RMNP.

This house was so much more than I ever anticipated. The cleanliness, the thoughtfulness that went into each room, the location, and the feeling of comfort in this home made our quick vacation to the Rockies for a wedding a truly memorable experience. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone who is staying in or near Estes Park.
