About Benjamin Haas

We are Dutch, and moved to the area in 2000. The original house we had has been sold in the mean time. We own Burgundy4u, a real estate agency helping foreigners buy and settle in the burgundy region. We have been helping clients since 2002. Our hobbies are our animals, we ride horses and walk our lamas and dogs.

Benjamin Haas purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Benjamin Haas chose Autun area

We bought this property as it dominates the valley we look on, but at the same time it is not far from amenities. The cottage we now rent out we lived in whilst the main house being built, so we made sure it has all the comforts to live in. Even though you are next to our house, there is a hedge that separates you from us, so preserving your privacy

The property used to be the club house of the riding school. We have transformed it now into our home, the riding school is now built a little further on the road, not seen from the house as behind trees. You do see from the holiday cottage the large riding school just below.

What makes this cottage unique

Great view, private garden, cute setting and cosy house, honest quality materials, comfortable beds. Satellite TV and internet via WIFI included.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful cottage, located on a hill with a great view over the Valleys and Hills of Burgundy. This cozy cottage comfortably accommodated the four of us for a week. It has everything a family needs to spend a vacation, and it is nicely decorated. Comfortable beds, great kitchen, towels, clean bathroom, good outdoor furniture.

The friendly owners continuously provided great service; from suggesting day-trips to ordering fresh bread from the local Bakery.

We particularly enjoyed our visits to the nearby Lake for a swim. We went to the Acro-Givry Parc for some adventurous climbing but most of all the kids enjoyed horseback riding right through the local vineyards.

We would highly recommend a visit to MontduLievre.

A perfect stay at Mont du Lievre

  • 5 of 5

We had a perfect stay at this compact , well appointed cottage situated in a great location with wonderful views over the countryside. Benjamin and Frances made us very welcome and could not have been more helpful without in anyway being intrusive. It is a very peaceful location but with necessary shops at Couches 10 mins away by car, Beaune at 40 minutes is great but very crowded on Market day. The Hospice de Beaune is stunning and well worth a visit on non-market days. Do visit Benjamin Haas' local vineyard for great value quaffable wines at very reasonable prices.

Wunderschönes Haus mit Fernblick

  • 5 of 5

Home away from Home

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to rent a self catering cottage in the Burgundy area, so that we could have a base to visit various villages, wine farms, and markets in the surrounding area. This was the perfect location, in a perfect setting, in an absolutely perfect cottage. Benjamin made you feel so at home and was full of helpful information. Hope to return in the near future

100% recommendation

Pentecost holiday in Burgundy

  • 5 of 5

A very nice old stone house in typical burgundy architecture, best renovated and in a great surrounding. A very pleasant place, very quit with a lovely small garden and with a great view over the beautiful landscape of burgundy. Nevertheless it is not far away from the places of interests like Beaune and Dijon or the very famous old wine villages of burgundy.

The house was very clean, the equipment completely and the owner were very friendly and helpful. We liked our stay very much and we really recommend this property.

Owner's Response: It was pleasure to have Horst, Ante and Henrike with us. We hope to receive them again soon. That also enjoyed the several bicycle paths, as they brought their own bikes. for those that do not have bikes you can rent them in the village down the road. Benjamin and Frances

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Looking back after a couple of months, we had a perectly relaxing stay here at Mont Du Lievre. We had not visited this part of France before and really enjoyed exploring the area, particularly the varied local chateaux and the beautiful towns of Beaune and Dijon which were within reach, returning to peace and comfort each evening. Many thanks to Benjamin and Frances for excellent hospitality, conversation and local information.

A Stellar Burgundy cottage!!!

  • 5 of 5

My parents and I stayed here for a week and loved it! It's located in a little hamlet near a quaint village in Burgundy. The cottage was idyllic and we enjoyed having our breakfasts outdoors every morning. Such a quiet, scenic place to come home to after our daytrips to medieval Beaune and surrounding villages and vineyards. This area is reminiscent of the English Cotswolds with vineyards in the rolling countryside. Our hosts Benjamin and Frances were absolutely wonderful, so very helpful, thoughtful and kind. We truly enjoyed our conversations with them as well as adoring their dogs and llamas...what fun! This was the perfect cottage and we couldn't have asked for anything more. This amazing place, the people, the area, the animals, are all very special and a must for anyone visiting Burgundy, France. Love, love, loved it!!!

You can visit a market every day of the week. We specially like the cosy Beaune Saturday morning and Chalon sur Saone on Sunday morning. Unique is the early Monday morning market in Louhans, where there is livestock and the famous Bresse chicken.

Wine lovers heat your heart out! Lots to visit and taste of course! Many of the large wine houses can be visited, for example Pommard (red) and Meusault (white). In most villages you will find a cellar to visit, or see the wine farmers about their daily chores in the fields. At the house are introductions to our neighbours, Mrs Berbezy for red, and Bernard Royet for whites and wonderful Cremants ( the local champagne)

At less than 30km from us there are 4 golf courses: Montchanin 18 holes, Levernois 18 holes, Chalon 18 holes en Autun 12 holes.

Our neighbours run a equestrian centre ' le chante renards'. Hacking is possible with their horses as from 40 euros the hour.

The area around Montdulievre is hilly, from here you walk straight into the vineyards with magnificent views of rolling country.

We have lamas at the house, we can organize a walk with them.

Also for children there are several activities such as Arboretum in Givry at 15minutes drive, to swing from tree top to tree top, the pools and sailing lake at Autun, and the summer slide, steam train and carting at le Creusot.

The voie Verte is just in the valley, at the capitanerie of St leger sur Dheune you can rent bicycles for a stroll along the canal

Last but not least is Couches castle, just reopened with new owners at only 5 minute drive, making a must see place for young and old. If you wish you can book a wine tasting after the visit.

We live in the house next door, and will be your guide in the area. Of course if you just want to lie in your deck chair and enjoy the view with a glass of wine that is also possible.

This is the house we build for ourselves with loving care. Children are not recommended, we warn that it is not Toddler or baby safe. The possible risks are the cellar entrance, also the decoration is not resistant to chocolate baby hands. All bedrooms are upstairs, so you need to use stairs to be able to stay in this house. Also to access the second bedroom there is a beam to climb over.
