About the property

Beautiful Swedish Cottage on 100' of private shoreline on Little Pequaywan Lake

**From early June through the end of August, we only rent from Saturday through Saturday to ensure solid bookings all summer long. Please contact us if you have any questions about this policy!**

**Coming March 2018, we will be listing 2 new properties in the same area on VRBO! Please inquire if you are looking to book beyond March.**

This new construction is wonderfully appointed and a great space for your getaway. The interior is constructed with light bright aspen paneling & red oak flooring. The vaulted great room is terrific for entertaining and warming next to the woodstove. The custom kitchen boasts granite countertops, stainless appliances, a center island for gathering and is fully furnished. The full bath is finished off with black Vermont slate, granite countertops and aspen paneling. The two bedrooms and open sleeping loft sleep 6-8 guests. The large deck overlooking the lake leads to a good sized flat yard perfect for playing catch or other outdoor games. From the yard there is set of stairs to the swimming area & dock. The swimming area has clear water with a solid gravel bottom.

Winter: For snowmobiling fanatics, this property is located w/in one mile of the Pequaywan & Brimson Trails! The lake offers a number of species for ice fishermen. The area also has significant public property available for cross country skiing and snowshoeing! We keep the sauna open all winter to allow as many guests as possible to use the amenity. When there are extremely cold temperatures, the sauna may not heat up to the desired temperature. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Summer: Our sauna is a great way to relax at the end of a hard day of vacationing. To add to your relaxing vacation, we also offer a patio with grill/patio furniture, kayaks, and many other amenities for you to enjoy! Little Pequaywan Lake (aka Smith Lake) contains walleye, crappies, pan fish, bass and northern pike for fishing enthusiasts.

About Roxanne

The cottage on Little Pequaywan is owned by a group of friends from the Duluth area who have maintained their friendship through their shared love of the outdoors. Throughout the last several years, we have completed some wild adventures together, such as: kayaking the Mississippi River, biking around Lake Superior and hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim.

Lately, we have decided to spend more time enjoying the area we have all lived in for most of our lives, Northern Minnesota! In order to enjoy the area to the fullest extent, we decided to purchase a cabin on one of the most beautiful lakes in the area, Little Pequaywan Lake.

A little more about us:

Tony: Grew up in Chisholm, Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; is currently employed as an engineer in Duluth.

Chandra: Grew up in Minnesota; graduated from Lake Superior College; currently employed in the physical therapy field in the Duluth area.

Lucas: Grew up in Northern Minnesota; graduated from the University of MN-Twin Cities; currently traveling throughout North America implementing business excellence principles within the forest products industry..

Roxanne: Grew up in Sturgeon Lake, MN; graduated from the University of MN-Duluth; currently employed in the organizational development field within the forest products industry.

Roxanne purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Roxanne chose Minnesota

The first time we drove up to this property we knew it was the one for us (likely the reason why we made an offer to purchase the next day!).

The well built and beautifully furnished cottage is situated 100' from the waters edge with a panoramic view from the living room, dining room and front patio. At the waters edge you will find 100' of lakeshore with a hard gravel bottom and a dock to enjoy everything the lake has to offer.

What makes this cottage unique

The beautifully furnished living/dining area is a great place to relax and converse after a long day on the water or in the many acres of state owned forest just minutes from the cabin.

If the outdoors is your primary reason for visiting, you will really enjoy fishing on Little Pequaywan Lake (very little traffic, no public landing) or snowmobiling on the many miles of local trails (less than a mile from the Brimson and Pequaywan trails).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just spent our first wedding anniversary here. Enjoyed the peace and quiet and seclusion. Didn't expect the snowy view, would like to enjoy the cabin in nicer weather. Thanks Lucas and Tony for the chance to stay here. We look forward to making more memories here.

Nice little cabin

  • 3 of 5

Our group of 8 had a nice stay at this clean, new little cabin on Little Pequaywan Lake. Here are our pros and cons about the cabin, property and location after our stay:

PROS:

-Nice, clear lake for fishing and swimming

-2 kayaks and 1 canoe for your use

-New cabin with modern interior, working utilities & furniture in good condition

-Cable TV with DVD player

-Filtered drinking water dispenser in refrigerator

-Nice open yard for kids & dogs to play in

CONS:

-45-60 minutes drive to Two Harbors or Duluth, these are the only closest towns

-No cell phone coverage & no WiFi at cabin (this did not allow us to look up information while at the cabin or use GPS from the cabin to navigate the area-- so bring a hard copy map if you plan on driving around, the roads are confusing and several of them are gravel roads)

-The cabin is situated about 50 feet from the road and there is a lot of noisy traffic traveling on it (seems that most of the cabins on the lake are year-round local residents that live there)

-Half of the window screens on the house are not a tight fit, there are gaps between the screen frame and the window frame which lets mosquitos in. We discovered this after a night or two of constant mosquitos in the bedrooms and then made sure to keep those windows closed.

-We found the cabin size far too small for 8 people, we would recommend 4-5 adults at most can stay comfortably in this cabin. The loft space has 4 twin beds but is extremely small with no privacy, so either put kids up there or one adult. For larger groups, keep in mind there is only one bathroom also.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we certainly appreciate the feedback. We hadn't heard the feedback on the window screens - we'll make sure to check it out. As far as the trips to Two Harbors and Duluth, it does take approximately 30 minutes to get to Two Harbors and 40 minutes to Duluth. If you have AT&T the cell service works well, but Verizon does not. We are glad you enjoyed the lake and all that has to offer.

Just what we needed

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a close-to-Duluth lake getaway for our family of 5. Our first. Lake was beautiful and cabin was relaxing. Lack of wifi and cell coverage was nice although we drove to access it twice. If you like slightly rowdy 4th festivities (on 3rd) with calm days surrounding then this is great location. I agree with other reviewers though - know there is no public boat access and instead enjoy the canoeing and kayaking.

Nice and away.

  • 4 of 5

Clean and cozy. Remote, but there are neighbors. Verizon can't hear you. Some TV channels. Fishing was a bust. Couple of nibbles. Rained most of our week, but had plenty of games and some movies. Drive 61 up to Thunder Bay. Beautiful drive even in the rain. Lots of waterfalls to see. Sauna was a plus, along with the wood stove.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! Sorry that you had some rainy weather, but sounds like you made the most of it! Yes, Verizon cell phone service is not good in our area, but other services are better. Hopefully you can come again sometime and get some nicer weather!

Relaxing and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing week! Very clean, comfortable beds, great kitchen, nice yard for outdoor fun, handy supply of firewood, awesome access to canoe and kayaks. Having no cell service/wi-fi was bittersweet (mostly only missed it to check weather but caught it on the local weather on tv) and no AC/central air could be an issue ( was a nice cool week for us but could be an issue on hotter days in summer). Thanks for having us!!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay! We have AT&T and we have good cell service at the cabin, but I know some carriers do not, so it depends on who your provider is. We are so glad you got to spend time at our cabin and enjoy the lake!

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin! It was perfect for my family with room to spare. The lake is a perfect size for a relaxing canoe or kayak trip (we did both). So great that those were included to use! My son fished off of the dock ever day and caught quite a bit. Mostly sunnies but even a bass and northern as well. In fact, he caught a perch and then a northern came and tried to steal it so he caught both at the same time. :) It is an easy trip in to Duluth or Two Harbors. We didn't have cell phone reception at the cabin but honestly that was wonderful and if we did want to check the weather we could go to Pequayawan Inn and use their WiFi. It was a wonderful trip and I would highly recommend this cabin. Thanks so much!!!
