There---- Now for the FUN STUFF! :-)

The Wine Country Love Nest is a spectacular couples-only retreat. LUXURIOUS, PRIVATE, INTIMATE & BEAUTIFUL.

One of most special features of the cabin and it's compound is PRIVACY. You can unwind in total privacy and serenity at the Wine Country Love Nest, while enjoying....all to yourselves.... a huge selection of amenities! Read on........

We have been hosting guests from all over the world for over 5 years. Celebrities and famous folks have stayed here in complete privacy- (we won't tell). We consistently book to 100% occupancy for the high season, with a large percentage of repeat guests all year long.

OUR MOTTO: "Always serve up the most luxurious, PRIVATE and relaxing experience possible to our guests. Provide them with a visit that they will never forget!"

We give 110% of our attention to every detail of preparation for the Love Nest to always exceed your- (and our)- expectations. The pool, spa, sauna, redwood deck and patio are not shared with anyone. You will have it all to yourselves in complete privacy.

The solar heated pool is available for swimming year-round. (During the Winter, the pool is quite enjoyable if you'd like to take a cold plunge after the sauna or spa- both of which are a few short steps away from the pool). We have guests that book with us to do just that! Scandinavians have taken post-sauna dips in cold water for more than 1,000 years.

*********CLICK ON THE VIDEO ICON ABOVE TO SEE THE AERIAL VIDEO TOUR OF THE LOVE NEST!********

We have resurrected a 64-year-old hand made log cabin and turned it into a very unique and intriguing home. It is all together beautiful, luxurious and intimate.

The Love Nest sleeps 2 Adults in a TEMPUR-PEDIC 'Cashmere' California King bed with UPSCALE linens, and will accommodate 2 more Adult guests- (if approved)- in super-comfy twin beds in the "tree house"- a small, cozy, heated room just 10 steps from the main cabin. Our goal was to retain the charm of the home while COMPLETELY rebuilding every aspect of it's infrastructure.

We installed all new windows, glass doors, appliances, electrical system, plumbing system and a radiant-heated Chinese slate floor-(Floors are heated during Winter). Every room in the cabin has this slate floor, which is of many hues and a fascinating pattern. The gourmet kitchen features new upscale stainless appliances, all granite countertops, and gorgeous blue cabinets that were custom fitted by a local craftsman. You'll also have a nice Wolf stove with 4 burners and a big griddle for those mornings when you want to cook your own breakfast.

The Bathroom features a huge curved walk-in glass block shower built for two. There's a big skylight above, and a copper shower head from above. The bath also features a beautiful polished concrete vanity that was crafted by a local artist.

You'll have a 7.1 Yamaha/Denon/Klipsch/Velodyne sound system in the living room that is a real treat. There are built-in high-end Klipsch speakers all around the room. You will also enjoy an HD 8' diameter screen and a ceiling-mounted Sony HD projector. The combination of the screen and the sound system creates an absolutely terrific movie or sports viewing experience!

In the bedroom you'll have a wall-mounted HD 55' LED flat screen and a built-in Bose sound system. There is one more HD flat screen in the living room near the fireplace that's perfect to cuddle up in the afternoon on the cozy love seat to watch the fire and some TV. There's also a gorgeous new Yamaha Disclavier PLAYER piano for you to enjoy.

High-speed wireless internet service and complimentary long-distance telephone service within the United States are provided.

If you like to be super-cozy, you will love the heated slate floors during the Winter. Fireplaces in both the living room and bedroom top it all off. The living room fireplace will be loaded and ready for you to strike a match and have a romantic fire for your first night's stay! And……..firewood is always provided!

You'll have a generous amount of Keurig K Cups and a Keurig coffee maker. When you arrive, you will find some essentials have been supplied- Half and Half in the fridge along with some farm-fresh eggs and some O.J. Or- why not take a walk to nearby Occidental and have breakfast at Howard Station- a historic establishment with great breakfasts.

The outside of the Love Nest really fun, too!

THE SPA- called the 'Serena Bay'- It's BIG. It's a wonderful experience to gaze at the stars while soaking in this special spa. It's filled with sparkling fresh spring water from our own spring.

The POOL...… It's GORGEOUS, and solar heated during the Spring, Summer and Fall seasons. The adjacent lanai has a bar crafted from an ancient slab of reclaimed redwood that was harvested right off the property over 120 years ago. The pool is surrounded by a redwood deck. It's fun to hang out in the expansive open-air 'surf shack' themed lanai by the pool in any kind of weather. There is a stainless gas barbecue that's always ready for grilling the dinner of your choice. On the patio you'll also find a charming fire pit for those starry evenings- making good conversation and s'mores. It is always stocked with firewood for you- just light a match and enjoy!

The outdoor sauna- made of all clear cedar wood, and shaped like a wine barrel. It's located just a few steps outside of the Love Nest's door. It's really a treat!

Sun? Lots of it! The Love Nest is located in a redwood forest, yet you'll enjoy a VERY sunny spot. You can gaze across the valley and you'll see that the Love Nest is actually located higher than many of the 100' tree tops in the canyon. Occasionally you can spot a Bald Eagle soaring high above, or the Red Tail Hawk mating pair that lives nearby.

If you are an outdoor adventurer you are going to love this place. You will be close to exciting open-air activities. Sonoma Canopy Tours will have you zip-lining over the Redwoods and taking in the very best view of the valley. Be sure to investigate the spectacular sky bridges and the 30 foot spiral staircase along the way. It is a riveting, astounding, and awe-inspiring journey that is sure to leave you with lifelong memories.

Get Ready To Explore And Restore............

If laid back style is more your thing or if you have had enough of an adrenaline rush for one day then it is a good idea to head into town. There you will find fantastic restaurants like the one at the Union Hotel which has unbeatable food and hospitality. If you like brew pubs, stop in at BARLEY AND HOPS for a great selection of beers on tap, live music and EXCELLENT food. There is also plenty of local artwork to check out and several quaint gift shops to explore before wandering back to the Love Nest for a much deserved respite.

We are on the grid, but our 10 KV Solar System provides for most of our electrical needs- We sell excess electricity back to the utility company during the Summer time.

We'll be extremely respectful of your privacy. If you need anything, we are a phone call or text away. You won't hear from us unless you ask!

About Robert and Jeanne

Jeanne and I have been very happily married for over 32 years. Robert was born in San Francisco and educated as a teacher- (now retired), Jeanne was born in Santa Rosa and is an RN. We have lived in Sonoma County all of our lives. Our interests and hobbies are bicycling, traveling, hiking, kayaking, swimming, appreciating music and the arts, and enjoying the wonderful community of Occidental in which we have lived our entire life together. We always try to make the most of every experience that life offer us. We invite you to come, stay, and enjoy a visit at our very special cabin!

Robert and Jeanne purchased this cabin in 1956

Why Robert and Jeanne chose Occidental

Our property was purchased by my grandparents in 1956. I moved onto the property in the 70's to help them get along so they would not have to go into a care facility. I had fallen in love with this cabin when I was a little guy, and MY dream was to care for the cabin after MY grandparents passed. After MY grandparents passed away, Jeanne and I purchased the property from the family's estate. It is a serene and beautiful sanctuary. The Wine Country Love Nest is a very special couple's retreat. We love it and we know that you will love it too! Everything you need for a very enjoyable stay is included in the rental fee, save food and drinks. We provide all of your firewood for the two fireplaces, and even your first morning's continental breakfast.

What makes this cabin unique

A special benefit of the Wine Country Love Nest is it's LOCATION. It is located near Bodega Bay and Northern California's stunning coastline on the Pacific Ocean- (20 minutes away) and a very short drive to some of California's finest wineries. There are wineries only 20 minutes away! There are vineyards within walking distance in our neighborhood!

You can bicycle to the charming little hamlet of Occidental in 5 minutes.

The close proximity to Occidental and it's wonderful restaurants, pubs and shops make for a very relaxing vacation. You don't have to go far to eat, shop, go wine tasting, go antiquing, ride, kayak or hike. The Wine Country Love Nest is centrally located to all that Northern California has to offer. You will love it!

If you want to stay somewhere that is unlike anywhere you have stayed before, you found “The Cabin!”

  • 5 of 5

Nestled in a grove of redwood trees is your own private sanctuary, that is made for just the two of you, yet screams it is so cool you should share it with others, but that isn’t going to happen.

While the owner lives on the property and there is a rental house on the property, we never once saw anyone or heard anything from them. Yet the owner and the property caretaker were there anytime we had any questions or needed anything. We felt they truly cared about our stay.

The only negative I think one could find is you can hear the faint traffic noise below in Occidental but it never bothered us at night. It was nice being so close to town and found some great spots in town, however I wouldn’t walk to town. Winding country roads with traffic in the dark wasn’t probably the smartest decision, but made for quite the adventure. While there is a 2nd bedroom in a casita, the master bedroom is open to the kitchen, which might make it undesirable if the couples staying here were looking for more privacy,

The location is also rewarding, as you can be driving the windy roads of wine country (tasting responsibly along the way of course), and then head to the ocean to watch the sunset, all in one afternoon. We did this last night and I highly recommended it!

It is a true log cabin with beautiful stone work around the foundation and fireplace, complete with anything you could need for your stay. Most notably outside is a private pool, hot tub, sauna, bbq, and koi pond.

The inside is very clean, well stocked and retains its original charm, despite being modernized. Great sound system for your music library, both inside and out, watched our college team win on the big projector screen. We originally had reservations for every night, but felt so guilty about having a great kitchen and not using it, we stopped at Big John's market for a couple of incredible steaks to throw on the grill matched with a great Cab we found on the days adventure. Perfect cap to a perfect long weekend!

A tranquil retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This property has it all! The cabin is cozy, but not small and the kitchen is well appointed. We enjoyed cooking out on the grill too. The outdoor spaces are terrific with beautiful plants, water feature and a variety of seating options and outdoor dinning space. We took full advantage of the sauna, hot tub and solar heated pool. A great retreat from city life.

Robert is a definition of a gracious and attentive host

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolute fun staying at the beautiful cottage. You can tell that the owners are really proud of this place and put a lot of time and effort to make it look amazing. And it is so so clean. The welcome we received was beyond expectations. We initially planned to do some wine tasting in the area but decided to spend the day playing in the pool. Water was so warm and the views were so relaxing. We had so much fun that we did not even want to go out to dinner. We cancelled our reservations at Hazel and opted for take out at El Mariachi instead. The food was really good and we ate on the patio listening to flowing water and watching beautiful birds eating from the bird feeder. Perfect weekend. Thank you Robert and Jeanne.

Such a beautiful property owned by an amazing couple!

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough about our stay, so I'll cut to the chase :)

Check in was so easy. We texted when we left the airport and were warmly greeted when we pulled in the driveway. We were shown the property and how to work the lighting, sauna, hot tub and projection screen and then were left on our own!

We spent an entire day/ night just hanging out on the pool deck and it was probably my favorite day in California! Don't get me wrong, the ocean and Redwoods were beautiful and only a short drive away, but the pool day was so relaxing! The bar area was amazing and the sound system was perfect for us! P.S..... the pool is the warmest pool I've ever been in. I'm crazy cold blooded and usually stay out of the pools, so my 8 year old was on cloud 9 to not have a freezing mom hop out after 20 minutes, but instead had a full day of swimming, laughing, dancing (horribly) and singing with his parents. Sooo needed for our little family of 3 ❤

The town was super small but has anything you need. A couple small grocery stores, a few places to eat and a few shops to wander in.

The owners were just a text away and respond immediately to answer any questions, but they do not intrude on your time away at all. We saw them when we checked in and that was it (not that they weren't great people to visit with, but they give you your space). We did get to meet Izzy (the owners dog), but for non dog lovers, do not take this as a negative! She just popped in, took a quick look and left again.... No barking, no nothing. We wouldn't have even noticed her if we hadn't been looking in that direction. We really loved that :) My son kept looking for her HOPING she'd come back.

The turtle pond was beautiful and relaxing to sit by.

Breakfast on the first day was in the fridge and there was plenty of coffee for the Kerig coffee maker :)

I taught my son how to play a song on the beautiful piano in the livingroom. I don't think he thought much about it, but having him sit next to me, asking me to play for him in the mornings and teach him to play is a memory I'll never forget.

Thank you for many lasting memories and for sharing your home with us! Our family has always been close, but sometimes get caught up with work and activities that we didn't realize how much we missed just hanging out together ❤

Like A Fabulous Private Spa!

  • 5 of 5

This was so wonderful, & had everything we needed. Gorgeous scenery, & the house was just so lovely with everything you could want.

The hosts Robert & Jeanne were such lovely people, & were so helpful in showing us how to operate everything. They were also extremely thoughtful, as they left us a delicious bottle of wine, cookies, & candy. Then they also left delicious surprises in the fridge for breakfast, & coffee for the Keruig coffee maker. We drink a lot of coffee & the brand they left was delicious. There were all the necessities, dishes, cups, glasses, pots & pans, & silverware. They had an array of spices also.

The home itself had a fantastic sound system, & a projector TV which was huge. Plus, other TV's throughout the home. We had brought some of our own towels from home, but they had very luxurious towels for both inside & outside uses.

We enjoyed the huge pool the most. But, the hot tub was lovely, & even though we didn't try the sauna I'm sure it was great.

The tree house was also absolutely charming.

Just to get away & relax in such a beautiful place , was what we both needed. And to top it off they left us a lovely card on our car. What a very thoughtful couple! We hope to go back again, & anyone going here is in for a real treat! 😄

luxury in the redwoods

  • 5 of 5

The beautifully updated log cabin in the woods has both luxurious and homey amenities—everything from a pool, sauna, and hot tub to the high-end home theater and an an eager cook's kitchen. I have visited twice with family for brief getaways and the hosts have made us feel so very welcome. Their cabin and its grounds are obviously a labor of love and filled with their carefully-chosen treasures. I can't wait to return!
