Overview

Photos and Description of this Gualdo Cattaneo holiday villa

Umbrian country house to sleep 6/8 with private swimmingpool

Comfortable country house, which enjoys a beautiful panorama of the valley of the Tevere and the surrounding hills. It is a recently built house, but the wooden-beamed ceilings in chestnut wood, and the terracotta floors are perfectly in tune with the traditional style of the umbrian country house. Furnished in comfortable rustic style, it is surrounded by a large, panoramic garden equipped with garden furniture and with a nice swimming-pool.

To reach the house, the last 200 metres are along a quite steep, untarred road.

Ground Floor: living-room with fireplace, TV and access to the veranda outside, with dining area, and well-equipped corner kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, oven, freezer), 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower.

First Floor: 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower, 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub, both with access to the panoramic terrace.

Swimming pool opening dates: last week of May - last week of September

Changeover day: Saturday

Fantastic location, lovely villa

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at Bruno and Mila's villa. It's in a fantastic location, with lovely views and peace and quiet. The villa was spotlessly clean, although the furniture and fittings are very traditional and a little tired. The pool was gorgeous and was kept clean during the week. I do feel that, given the cost and the cleaning charge, that a few more fresh towels would have been helpful. Overall though, the villa is a lovely retreat with rustic charm and was managed by a very helpful and friendly couple.

A very enjoyable stay

  • 4 of 5

Overall it was a very good experience and the views etc. were wonderful. We did feel that 150 euros for cleaning was really excessive - especially as we know how long the cleaner spends cleaning between visitors. We were told it also included pool cleaning but for the price of the villa, we would expect that to be included.

However, the cleaning lady was great and very kind to come extremely early in the morning when we had to leave early. Small things were slightly irritating - no matches for the barbecue and a welcome basket would have been much appreciated as we almost missed the supermarket. Gloria also very helpful in rushing over with lighters for us.

In summary, a lovely place, great staff but questionable value for money given the above comments.

Wish we were back in Umbria now

  • 5 of 5

This house did not disappoint. We looked at the pictures online, and we were more than pleased when we saw the house and the location in person. The views are stunning - some of the best sunsets we've seen. The outdoor patio provided a lovely place to sit in the morning or in the afternoon, and we frequently left the doors open so that we could enjoy the breeze. Upstairs there is a full patio that offers a panoramic view of the countryside complete with vineyards and other charming houses. We would have been happy to while away the hours enjoying the view, but in such a great location, we found plenty to explore as well.

Though Tuscany is famed for its villages, Umbria has so much to offer as well. We drove to Spello, Assisi, Perugia, and Orvieto, while also fitting in a day trip to Rome. The roads were narrow and winding, but Italian drivers are aware and cautious, and the drives were often as enjoyable as the destinations. Then at the end of the day we would return to the house and enjoy a fantastic swim with Umbrian scenery surrounding us.

The house is well-maintained with everything a family might need for a vacation. We especially liked the fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom, and we used both the kitchen and the outdoor grill for preparing meals. Gloria, who greeted us, gave us excellent information about markets and restaurants to get us off to a good start.

Though finding this house was difficult because a GPS will only get you to the general location, we were thrilled with our choice. (FYI - once you get to Via Manzano, the house is the first left after the asphalt ends.) We would highly recommend this house for anyone who wants a true Italian experience, and if we had another week to spend there, I know we would enjoy every minute.

Hate to give it away!

  • 5 of 5

I hate to share how wonderful this villa is! The next time I want to go back it will be booked. The pictures don't do it justice. It's beautiful and has everything you could need for a great vacation. Wonderful location for day trips with perfect solitude! Days by the pool and nights watching fireflys and stars. Salvatore and Paula were great.
