About the property

3 BR, 2 BA Immaculate Home, Gorgeous 600' Panoramic Waterfront View, Sunset.

If you love nature this is the place for you. We are fortunate, we had no damage from Irma. Our waterfront property is ideal for folks who are seeking quiet time in a beautiful natural lowcountry setting, with a stellar panoramic view. Autumn is a gorgeous time of year in the lowcountry.

Excellent central location for exploring the Lowcountry. 12 minutes to beautiful downtown Beaufort. Home is in-between Charleston and Savannah. 20 minutes from Parris Island. 5 minutes from MCAS. Our 1,200 square foot home is strictly limited to 6 guests total, adults, children and visitors combined.

The NY Times published a world list of "52 Places around the world to go in 2016." Beaufort is on the list. April 2017, Southern Living, bestowed Beaufort the best small town in the south.

Get the best of country at Waters Edge with a 12 minute drive to Downtown Beaufort.

Enjoy what even the locals say is the best water view in Beaufort from the 528 sq. ft. deck or dock. Kids love the swing, volleyball, badminton, tetherball, the dock, toys in the outdoor toy box, the outdoor chalk board, sidewalk chalk along with games in the house.

The home has a master suite, king bed and 2 chests of drawers. 2nd bedroom has a queen bed and 1 chest of drawers. 3rd bedroom has 2 XL twin beds with water view. Each bedroom has a closet with clothing shelf and luggage stands. 2 bathrooms. W/D. Fully stocked kitchen.

We say Waters Edge is a vacation perfected by nature. Here is what our guests say. These are taken verbatim from the home guest book or an email, each guest also thanked us profusely.

'Your home & setting are beautiful & so peaceful. We couldn't have chosen a better place.' Georgian

“We had an awesome time at Waters Edge, a lowcountry house with a waterfront that would allow us to put in our kayaks and paddle boards at the back door! The manuals were very informative.” Teresa

“The view was gorgeous, the grass lush, the landscaping beautiful with all the plants & sculptures. The house was immaculate & had everything we could ever need!” Deborah

“Hate to leave, everything was perfect!" Mary

“This is one of the most awesome places we have stayed in. The quiet evenings & natural views will never be forgotten. So home like! Loved it!” Donna

“We loved the house. The space was great & the location was amazing. Everyone was blown away by all the attention to detail; it seems that you have thought of everything & put lots of love & time into the house. Everything was perfect. I would take a great view of the marshes over oceanfront any day, they're so interesting & beautiful!” Casey

“We had a wonderful family visit & everything about Waters Edge was perfect for our stay. We found the place 'speckless' (my daughter's word)! The sun on the marsh at 7am is beautiful. All info was clear, concise & extensive. We might have chosen a house in town had it been available but having now stayed at your place, we’ll be back. Price is more than reasonable to boot.” Sumner

“We loved the home and the view, which has the greatest sunsets ever! This was a very enjoyable respite for us.” Barbara

“The brief stay was so much more than we expected! It was serene, yet flavored with adventure. We love everything about this place & will return again for a longer stay. The swing is great! The dolphins spectacular! This little home will provide memories of a lifetime.” Jeff

“What a wonderful find to celebrate 50 years of marriage! So peaceful & tranquil, a retreat from our busy lives. We feel blessed.” Saundra

“Your place lived up to everything you posted & beyond. Definitely have to experience Water's Edge first hand to fully appreciate it. The cleanliness & the clean lines of your furnishings is exemplary. We talked about other vacations when we have been by the ocean & never noticing the tides as we did here. The marshlands are beautiful & they gave us the opportunity to see the rise, fall and currents. Fascinating!” Saundra

“Wow! What a beautiful place. Better than the photos online. Best of all we saw a dolphin swim by us while we were on the dock. Sublime!” Sharolch

“We really enjoyed our stay here. Some of our favorite things – tether ball in the yard, the ring toss game on the deck & finding sharks teeth at Sands Beach.” Angie

“Everything was well-thought-out, serene & squeakily clean (puts our house to shame). It was perfect, thanks to you Cheryl.” Judy

“Felt like a home away from home, very relaxing, with a beautiful view.” Nancy

"If I win the lottery tonight, I'll make you an offer you can't refuse!" Donna's husband

“We had a wonderful time, your place is great!” Rose

“Beautiful place. You went out of your way with so many thoughtful touches - the homemade chocolate chip cookies, the fire pit all ready for marshmallows. All the info & tips about the area, the well stocked kitchen & bathrooms. Everything was perfect. My granddaughters especially loved the swing! We had a wonderful time.” Deborah

“Beautiful Place! Your hospitality is wonderful & we will be back soon! Our entire family really enjoyed the peaceful surroundings & beautiful views.” David

“You have a little piece of heaven. The views were amazing!” Giovapnoli, Rome, Italy.

“Beautiful view to wake up to everyday & enjoy at night.” Stephen

“Such a lovely property & lovely view. The house is well apportioned, stocked & house instructions couldn't have been clearer. A HUGE bonus were the cooking supplies- having coconut oil and a few spices made deciding to cook a snap - this is RARE in rental properties and MUCH appreciated.” Karen

“The kids ages 15, 27, 29 loved the place & were pleased to see that you had so much set up for them to do. We enjoyed our first vacation home rental.” Marla

“This was a much needed break for our family. Thanks for putting so much thought & effort into this place! We can't wait to come back & stay longer!” Tarra

“We so enjoyed your piece of HEAVEN! You were a great HOST, incredibly organized, accommodating and genuinely welcoming. When looking at possibilities, your place was a slam dunk. The price is very reasonable & the accommodations perfect. The free use of kayak and canoe provided a tremendous savings as well as enjoyment to my family. I would like to share one more thing with you regarding my wife. She likes to be in the middle of things. To be in close proximity to the market as well as other stores. Well let me tell you, Waters Edge opened her eyes to what something off the beaten path can provide. Not that Waters Edge is that far removed from things but to her it was OUT THERE, this opened the door for future possibilities for our family. I share this with you because you touched us all in ways that you probably didn’t realize.” Norm

“We couldn't have picked a better place to have a family vacation. We so enjoyed your beautiful deck & awesome views! You have a little slice of heaven here.” Patty

“What a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of nature & the zen of life. We love the coastal life & Hunting Island is unmatched.” Karen

“Loved your place. Nice big deck with an awesome view! The fire pit was a plus. This is a great place for a family picking up their marine to come back to each night.” Ivy

“I just wanted to say THANKS for helping to make our 22nd anniversary a special one. The house is way better than the description on the website and the pictures just don't do it justice. We enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to & watching nature especially the wildlife in the mornings & evenings. Getting to watch dolphins from the deck was a super treat.” Angie

“Loved everything. Seeing dolphins so close was wonderful. Everything was perfect.” Katherine

“We enjoyed our stay so much. The place is beautiful & so relaxing.” Ellen

“We enjoyed your beautiful place very much. We really appreciated your notebook with things to do, places to eat & the Hunting Island ocean front pass.” Susan

“The views are awesome. The sculptures outside the home are beautiful.” Ginny

“Your generous spirit exudes everywhere! I loved the area & your little slice of heaven was just what I needed.” Debbie

“We were impressed by this beautiful house, its view and were thrilled with all of the exciting activities you suggested for us. We have many wonderful memories.” Langer

“A beautiful view. The decor made us feel right at home.” Gina

“Wonderful experience, it was a memorable vacation for all of us. We enjoyed all of the extra effort that you put into our stay.” Chad

“We really loved our stay on McCalley Creek. You are a truly wonderful host. It is reassuring to know that an area with such natural beauty & wonder has people like you who are passionate about it and help to ensure it is protected.” Rebecca

“Beautiful house. We spent a lovely Christmas here, capturing the view from your wonderful deck. We can't wait to come back.” Karen

“Little piece of heaven! It was truly a wonderful time & you guys couldn't have been more welcoming. We'll be back in the spring!” Alex. While these quests were here we all watched a bald eagle eating a fish in the tree right in front of the houses. It was spectacular. From the house I have seen a bald eagles 5 times.

“What a charming home & lovely view! Your home was the perfect getaway.” Andrew

“What a beautiful property! It's a little slice of heaven with everything we needed... kitchen stuff, outside stuff, & a fantastic view! We enjoyed the fire pit & your place is so clean!” Kim

“We had a lovely, peaceful weekend in this extraordinary retreat. Much time was spent watching the changing light from the deck while our girls happily played in the yard. You have the most perfect swing!” Jami

“Perfection!" James

About Cheryl Mansson

Cheryl and Norman Mansson love living on McCalley Creek next door to our guest home. We are both nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who are smitten with living on the tidal salt marsh of McCalley Creek. Cheryl has lived in the Lowcountry for 35 years and Norman for 16 years. We have eight grandchildren we immensely enjoy. Norman has 3 married children in Portland, OR, Charlotte, NC and Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Cheryl has a masters degree in Counseling. Norman has a masters degree in Engineering. Norman has a manufacturing company in Varnville, SC. Norman is also a sculptor, you will see 5 of his life-size children statues in the yard of the guest home and one in front of the library in Downtown Beaufort.

Norman grew up in Mt. Kisco, NY and has lived in CT, WA and WY. Cheryl grew up in Litchfield, NY, a dairy farming community on the edge of the Adirondack Mountains. Cheryl lived on a 26' Columbia sailboat for 7 years and spent many years cruising. Downtown Beaufort was Cheryl's home for 25 years, and briefly in Yukutat, AK. We have traveled extensively and are delighted (through experience) to provide what travelers need. Our favorite place is home sweet home on McCalley Creek especially with the kids and grandchildren.

Cheryl Mansson purchased this chateau / country house in 2009

Why Cheryl Mansson chose South Carolina

In a nutshell, pristine nature in a quiet private setting is why we live here and bought the home next door which is the vacation rental. We are smitten with our place! The view is priceless as is the wildlife.

This is the ideal place to unplug and relax in the natural beauty of the lowcountry. The 800' view of expansive tidal salt marsh on deep McCalley Creek was just what we were looking for. The sunsets take our breath away. For early risers the sunlight illuminates the marsh as the sun rises. We love the serenity of our private setting. Dolphin sightings are common, especially in the summer. We have many wader birds i.e. blue and green herons, egrets, ibis, wood storks. We also see and hear osprey, hawks, woodpeckers, owls, king fishers, hummingbirds, bluebirds, cardinals, wren. Cheryl has seen a bald eagle 5 times and a pair once. There is a one acre forest with a board walk to enjoy. Ancient mighty live oaks provide a wonderful shade canopy. We have created a great deal of landscaping which we enjoy. The home is clean as a whistle and completely furnished. Only 8 minutes to Bruster's Ice Cream yummy! 5 miles to a great drive-in movie theater with current movies, it is a great drive-in. 11 miles to downtown Historic Beaufort with many delicious restaurants, unique shops and art galleries. Hunting Island State Park is a pristine Atlantic Ocean beach is 28 miles from the house.

The property boarders the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee, Edisto Rivers) Basin 350,000 acres of diverse habitats including pine and hardwood uplands, forested wetlands, fresh, brackish and salt water tidal marshes, barrier islands and beaches. The ACE basin offers hiking, boating, bird watching and sceenic drives. We have seen white pelicans and rosette spoonbills at the Donnelly Wildlife Management Area in the ACE Basin I have never seen them elsewhere in Beaufort County.

We are a central Lowcountry location, right in between Charleston and Savannah. Many ruins in our area also.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The waterfront view is outstanding, unobstructed by docks, a rarity in Beaufort County. The sunsets are stellar. The marsh is ever changing. The flow of the tide in and out is peaceful. Kayaking and canoeing from the front yard. At high tide take a swim in the creek. The night sky is gorgeous. The moon beams on the water. Many species of birds. Dolphin. We shrimp and crab. The live oaks shade the deck and make it a great place to lay in the hammock and enjoy the view, meditate, contemplate, be inspired, read... Great place to be artistic, art and collage supplies available. A nature lovers dream with all the essentials. Within 10 minutes is anything you may need, yet at the house it's you and nature.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is what Professor Emeritus Dr. Larry Rowland, our local historian and author has to say about our area. 'This coastline has more aesthetic tourist values than if you were to combine Yellowstone Park and Williamsburg. The Lowcountry is one of the most aesthetic places in America. Every person who comes here mentions that. You have tidal water and land and sea and sky. You've got this very unusual atmosphere. This is the most humid part of the United States...from Charleston to Jacksonville. So what it creates, as a 19th century poet said, 'is a sky of a softer blue.' The colors become muted. And that creates an imagery. It creates an aesthetic in people's mind. The colors merge together. And, since it is semi-tropical, you have all these flowers and birds that you do not have anywhere else in the United States. Then you see these oak trees that do not grow anywhere else. These are the densest, largest, and oldest trees in America outside of California. So you have this unusually romantic aesthetic that just strikes people.

It's not just the visual. It's actually the tactile feel because you come here and you smell the marshes. Then all of a sudden you see the oysters the size of your hand. All of these things just affect people. These things don't exist anyplace else in the United States. So it is very unique. When people visit us they see and witness a culture that is uniquely different. It is so different that they almost feel as if they are visiting another country. The food is distinctive. The church, and its music, are more important. Our dialect, and even our manners, are different. The Gullahs are our neighbors. It is these aesthetics that people react to without even being able to describe them.

Then, you have a historic aesthetic. We have 500 years of history that is actually here. America started here...not in Jamestown, Plymouth Rock, or St. Augustine. And we have the icons, the artifacts of that history visible to us all over the place. It's this total effect that strikes people. We have 300 years of commentary that says the same thing in every generation. 'This area is so unusual.' 'What a volume of history is here.' And everybody has the same human reaction to it.' Larry Rowland

Perfect in every way!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at Waters Edge for our anniversary for the weekend and couldn't of been happier. The location is so convenient and the view is amazing. The home is so comfortable with really nice touches. Cheryl has thought of everything that you could need and has it readily available for you. She is a gracious person and hostess and we really enjoyed meeting her and spending time in their beautiful oasis. This will be the first place I will want to return for a low country getaway. The area is very boat friendly and Cheryl was great with suggestions for landings and also with allowing us to park our boat in her driveway. Thank you so much Cheryl! It was a wonderful weekend.

Pristine and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

This home was exactly what we had expected and then some. The home was immaculate, comfy, and quite spacious for the size. Plenty of room for 6. The grounds are AMAZING! Beautifully kept, lovely view from the back of the home, hammock, tree swing, plenty of room for backyard play and so peaceful. Unfortunately we were not there long enough to enjoy all that the property has to offer. Cheryl's home isn't just a place to rest your head if you stay you must allow yourself the time to make the most of it. Cheryl was a great host, we were given a short but sweet walk through when we arrived and then allowed our privacy. Fyi there is a property information binder with many specific instructions. Please read carefully, this home would not be what it is without them. It's very clear that this home is very well taken care of, you wouldn't want it any other way :) Thanks again Chery!

Owner's Response: Autumn is a gorgeous time of year at Waters Edge. Yesterday from the deck I saw 2 dolphins stranding. Stranding is when dolphins push fish up on the bank and feed. It was extraordinary to see their whole bodies out of the water. House has 2 pairs of binoculars! Come enjoy the beauty.

Everything you could need and want plus a whole lot more!

  • 5 of 5

We had wanted to hit the beach for the eclipse and knew Charleston was going to be crazy so I found this place for my family. The pictures seriously do not do the place justice. Cheryl has thought of every detail that you could possibly need or want on vacation. There are indoor/outdoor games for kids and adults. The view is outstanding! and totally peaceful. You could not ask for more.

Owner's Response: Having fallen in love with Beaufort when I moved here in 1982, I am a wealth of area info to share. The house has a 3" binder of what to do in the area. Along with a 1" binder on the ACE Basin, an incredible 350,000 estuary that boarders Waters Edge. We are right in between Charleston, Savannah and Hilton Head for day trips.
