About this property

16 Acres Waterfront Retreat on Deep Creek

If you're looking for an oasis of calm, Cardinal Cove is the place for you! This 4 BR, 2½ bath waterfront home on Deep Creek’s west bank is located on 16 lushly wooded acres. A private road amidst 100 foot pine trees ensures your stay here couldn't be any more relaxing and carefree. Walk out at sunrise onto your own private boat dock (water depth 3 ft + high tide) throw in a crab pot or a fishing line, power up your boat and within minutes you’re cruising the waters of the Chesapeake Bay!

The house is a Nanticoke Cape Cod and easily accommodates 8. The first floor has 2 bedrooms, 2 twins & bunk beds, and a full bathroom while the second floor has 2 bedrooms, king & queen, walk-in closet and another full bathroom. With hardwood floors, tile and wall to wall carpeting throughout, the rooms are comfortably furnished with a classic antique feel. You can even dine al fresco on the screened-in covered deck off the dining room with a gorgeous creek view, and the open patio below offers more fresh air.

Sportsmen bring your bait, rods & boat and experience some fabulous crabbing, fishing and birding with the Deep Creek Marina less than ½ mile away. Charming, picturesque, historic, Onancock, the “Gem of the Eastern Shore” (founded in 1680 and 4th oldest town in VA) is a 10 minute drive and offers antique shops, art galleries, a cinema and wonderful restaurants. If you feel the need to venture out, the world's flounder capital Wachapraegue is a 20 minute ride, while Chincoteague is only a 40 minute drive to the north and Cape Charles is 45 minutes south. Cardinal Cove is the perfect destination for adventure and enjoyment of the “dual coasts” of the Virginia Eastern Shore!

Room for improvement
Overall enjoyable trip, but wouldn’t stay here again. Pros: - Beautiful remote area - Quiet and peaceful - House very clean and well furnished - Screened in patio perfect for avoiding bugs - Kitchen well stocked with utensils and spices - Very nice dock, perfect for fishing or just relaxing Cons: - There is no trash service and cleaners do not remove trash, visitors are required to load trash into personal vehicles and take it to local convenience center about 12 minutes away, this was not disclosed in the listing or our rental agreement prior to arrival - Listing states toilet paper and paper towels provided, there was less than 1/2 roll toilet paper and a few paper towels when we arrived - Dim lighting through kitchen and dining room - Grill rusted and dirty and no grill cleaning tools on site, didn’t attempt to use - Fire pit rusted through and unusable

Wonderfully peaceful
This property was perfect for what we were looking for with our family gathering. There was a screen porch which my mom (mobility issues) was able to sit and enjoy a view of the water. There were a few steps to enter the house but once on the first floor she was able to navigate very well. Also nice to have bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor. The kitchen was well stocked and the washer/dryer were very conveniently located. Fishing off the dock was great - just bring bug spray for the trek between the house and the dock (but to be expected as you are close to the water). Overall a great visit and hope to return.

Absolutely perfect!
Property was beautiful! We stayed with 4 kids (ages7-18) and two adults. Plenty of space no one was right on top of each other! Dock was definitely a hit as most nights were spent fishing and enjoying the view. House was clean and the screen In porch was huge to be able to enjoy the nighttime outside as well without getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. We would absolutely stay at this property again. Home was stocked with everything you would need!

An amazing place to disconnect and spend time with family
The house is spacious and very well maintained. The view from the screened porch is so peaceful and became our regular gathering place. We were able to put our 21’ center console boat in at the marina around the corner and dock it at the pier. At low tide, the boat was almost sitting on bottom, so plan your boating trips with the tides! We rarely saw other people on the water, but we did catch a few keeper fish and several rays. Bring your sunscreen and bug spray and you won’t be disappointed!

Great place to do some fishing and just chill.
We made good use of the boat dock. Did a lot of fishing off the dock and caught mostly stingrays. We rented a couple of kayaks for the week and had it delivered to the house. We explored Deep Creek and the bay. We brought our 16' skiff. The marina to the bay is just a couple minutes away and the launch fee is $5. The house has several crab traps and we were able to catch enough blue crabs over the course of the week to make a meal (we kept the crabs alive in coolers) - the house needs a large pots to cook crabs and to boil spaghetti noodles. The house was surprisingly larger than the pictures showed. With a house full of teens, everyone wanted their space. The only issue was the internet and cell service. It was very slow and spotty. We can really tell when more than a couple of people trying to use the wifi. We were barely able to watch Netflex on one device at a time. No one else can do much else. Then again, we're out there to relax. Less technology is better (unless you need the internet to work). We had a great time! Would definitely return to the house again. Thanks!
