Romantic Getaway Chateau / Country House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
About Leslie Gleason
We have spent the last 20 years raising two children near Telluride, Colorado. With the empty nest upon us, we acquired this beautiful property as part of a lifetime dream to live on this particular lake in the mountains of northern Idaho. We are excited to be able to share the magic of this romantic location with others whom might want or need a 'Getaway' to someplace truly special. We invite you to join us in discovering this wonderful place.
Leslie Gleason purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2012
Why Leslie Gleason chose Hope
It represents the best of what lake and mountain living provide and offers both privacy and wildlife but still allows for easy access to near by areas for recreational and more urban activities. The town of Hope nestles along the edge of the lake and is still unspoiled and charming with great locals and lovely setting.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
The Guest house decks run the entirety of the building and wrap towards the upper end of the lake providing broad ever changing views of the surrounding mountain ranges and different parts of the lake. There is a lovely courtyard with water fountain separating the Guest house from the balance of the property and providing for excellent privacy for both. The towering pines and diverse plants and flowers surrounding the Guest home make for the 'classic' mountain lake setting. The Guest home has it's own enclosed yard area and the interior has a wonderful charm and romantic feel that creates an authentic 'Getaway' mood. The guest house has a wonderful history in that it is on the site of the original homestead established back in 1910 and retains the nostalgic flavor of the original lake side cottage as it was built on one of the most picturesque locations around the lake.

Views from every window
Hart and Leslie were very gracious hosts. We felt very comfortable and took advantage of all the outdoor seating for relaxing and dining options on the deck. Gorgeous view of the lake and beyond. Kitchen was well equipped and clean. Showers were stocked with all the necessary supplies. King bed was super comfy with a large choice of pillows. Location is out of Sandpoint in East Hope but a short drive into town. There is a grocery store and pizza restaurant just minutes away in East Hope. Would love to return.
We really enjoyed our stay. Lots of space, close to Sandpoint & Hope is less than 2 miles away. (Great pizza place there) most everything we needed was supplied. I will say the sharp turn to driveway was a little difficult to maneuver off the highway but we got used to it. The main drawback is there’s no blinds! The morning sun woke us too early every morning & the place heats up early in the day with the sun. We had to run noisy portable a/c units constantly. That was really the only major complaint. Otherwise it was a great location & stay.
The house was charming and clean
The house met all of our needs. It was perfectly clean and had the things we needed. It is very close to downtown Hope and Clark’s Fork which are quaint Lillie towns, but further away from Sandpoint which is good and bad. Good because it is nice and quiet, bad because we only had one car. The owners are sweet. We really did have to communicate with them because everything was as it should be. My teenagers loved the sunsets.
Oh how we wish it was possible to extend our stay! Watching a bald eagle fly over the lake, entertained by the glittering hummingbirds, our stay was so relaxing. The nearby Idaho Club golf course is amazing!
Spectacular setting, Relaxing Accommodation
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lakeview Mountain Getaway. Situated on a rise above ID Highway 200 the home has wide outdoor decks and expansive window views of Lake Pend O’Reille with a mountain backdrop. On the east side of the lake, we were treated to spectacular sunsets and the ever changing daytime moods of the lake scene. If you want a quiet, beautiful retreat away from crowds in northern Idaho, this is it.
The owners were responsive and respected our desire for privacy. The home is rustic, well furnished, and well stocked with kitchen, bathroom, linen, and other necessities. We liked living among the towering evergreens, admiring the beautiful gardens, and much birdsong. It’s easily accessible to Sandpoint for groceries or a special meal. There were both a drip and Keirig coffee makers for those preferring either. The home has two showers in case any guest prefers a bathtub. The guest home is completely enclosed by a brown chain link fence that partially obstructs the view to the lake, but we considered that a minor matter. Finally there is a rail line parallel to Hwy 200 so there is some occasional train noise, but not enough to affect our peaceful stay.
We could easily spend another week or more in this location.
Lovely home with a view of the lake.
We had a wonderful 5 days in this property that sits on a hill above the lake. At first we were disappointed to have the patio views interrupted by a chain link fence above eye level. We quickly solved it by moving the really comfortable lawn chairs outside the fence where the view was unimpeded, and we observed the osprey and bald eagles soaring above the lake. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking and dining. The Gleasons were very helpful when needed. Their home is literally connected to this place, but we never heard them or saw them except a couple of times in the driveway. It felt very private. No other neighbors are within sight. We loved our stay on this beautiful lake nestled in the mountains.
Hope, Idaho is considered the most beautiful location on Lake Pend Oreille near Sandpoint. It is situated in the panhandle of Idaho and surrounded by three beautiful mountain ranges. British Columbia, Canada is only 58 miles north to the border from the lake. The surrounding region holds some of the most diverse landscape, wildlife, fishery, and natural beauty in North America. The lake environment is considered one of the last pristine large mountain lake regions. Sandpoint is a lovely town on the lake with a population of about 10,000, and offers wonderful art galleries, shopping and excellent dining on the water. Coeur D'Alene is only 46 miles away to the south. The lake climate is very temperate and provides great amounts of locally and naturally grown fruits and vegetables as well as locally caught fish and game. The recreational opportunities are unparalleled. Boating sports, sailing, fishing, hiking, skiing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and many more summer and winter lake and mountain activities are available in abundance.
