About Mark or Margaret VanDerWerff
We built our dream vacation home to share with family and friends in 2001. As South Dakota natives, we have roots in the Black Hills (Sturgis and Rapid City), but live in eastern SD, near Mitchell. Our family (children & grandchildren) have created many memories in this cabin...and we hope you'll create your own family treasures. May your time here strengthen the bonds of friend and family, and bless you with rest and relaxation.

Why Mark or Margaret VanDerWerff chose Lead
We love the Black Hills...as an active outdoor family, the decision to have a home on Terry Peak was an easy one. We do it all: including skiing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, sledding, fishing, golfing...the list is pretty long, actually. For all these reasons and more, we love our cabin in the Hills.
What makes this Cabin unique
This cabin is set apart because of its unique floor plan. We saw a lot of cabins before we decided on this special property. With 3 bedrooms on separate floors (and each with its own full bathroom) we can give our guests and family the private space (and quiet) that they deserve when vacationing. We also have a private lot, with no neighbors on 3 sides. Love that!

Nice comfortable get away cabin
We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, cozy cabin. It was clean and plenty of space for our family.
Thank you for your kind review. Please join us again!
Amazing getaway! This cabin was perfect. There were three couples traveling together and each of us had our own private bedroom and bathroom. That is hard to find. Even with six of us in the house it did not seem crowded at all and everyone had their own space. Perfect distance from town and beautiful setting. Highly recommend this cabin!
Had a wonderful time! A beautiful and large cabin that provided enough space for a large family.
Beautiful home. Well appointed. There was plenty of room for our family of 6! We would definitely stay again.
Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to give us such a kind review. Please stay again.
great family retreat!
This cabin was perfect for our family! Had a wonderful time and the owners did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. Would definitely come here again!
Yea! Thank you for your kind review. We know you have a choice of properties; glad we were able to host your group. Please come again.
Loved our stay at the Dutch Cabin. Had everything we needed, except some great windows to enjoy the beautiful Black Hills. They had just received a great sum of snow. It was cleared, but the driveway is steep and despite 4wheel drive, it was a struggle at times.
Staying in the Northern Black Hills offers a wide variety of choices for your vacation. The area boasts fabulous winter sports venues; skiing, snowmobiling, tubing. Hiking, fishing, golfing, sight seeing are just a few of summers treats. Black Hills Trail systems for power vehicles or bicycling the Michelson Trail are less than 5 miles from the front door. Relive the mining era, the days of the gunslingers, and old west cowboys and saloon girls in historic Deadwood and Lead (less than 10 miles). Gaming, fine dining and entertainment abound. Sturgis is a short 20 miles down the canyon, home of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Expand your drive to the southern Hills and see our famous Faces, Mt Rushmore; an easy scenic drive (40 miles). Find Custer State park which features Buffalo, Deer, Elk, Mountain Goats, and Donkeys. A week isn't time enough to explore this beautiful play ground.
