Located minutes away from Ubud centre, the 12 T Houses are a unique community in a beautiful setting with guests from all over the world. Enjoy the privacy of your own space or mix with interesting people, make new Balinese and international friends.
Chai House is an enchanting Balinese-style eco villa with use of a beautiful swimming pool overlooking the rice fields. It has one bedroom upstairs with great views and one bedroom downstairs in a separate pavilion. The house has two Balinese style open air bathrooms, a large kitchen, spacious seating areas and can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children (sofa beds). A baby cot is also available upon request.
During your stay at Chai House, you will experience a serenity that cannot be found in central Ubud.
The swimming pool is shared with the other T houses and there is always a quiet time for a relaxing swim.
Daily maid service and basic breakfast (served at the villa) is included in your stay. Wi-fi connection is available throughout the house.
The house offers you an experience to stay in an environmentally friendly and ecologically sustainable compound, which is a part of Balinese village life. The house is for people who love to meet other people, kids usually make new friends when they stay here.
Chai House is located just outside of the picturesque town of Ubud, famous for its food, views and cultural attractions, including striking waterfalls and temples; more information can be provided by the T House management.
The setting offers true tranquility as it is set away from the town, and has three restaurants within 5-10 minutes’ drive, meaning that, if you wish, you don't even need to enter Ubud for a sumptuous meal.
We have a fantastic local driver who will bring you from/to the airport (or other location) at very reasonable rates. He is highly recommended, with good English speaking and an exceptional knowledge of Bali; he can ferry you around, tailoring to your preferences and desires, creating a unique experience of the island for you.
Interaction with Guests:
Resort staff are great at solving practical problems, they live locally (they are the T House's neighbours) so there is always someone around. At night the watchmen are there to provide security and assistance.
Green/nature setting. Local village life in the day time and peaceful in the night time.
The T House resort staff can assist with arranging transport including:
Bicycle rental (one bicycle free for guest use)
Driver/taxi service into Ubud
Fantastic local driver with good English available for excursions and tours around the island
They can also arrange other services such as massage, laundry and freshly prepared local food (must be ordered one day in advance).
Other Things to Note:
Rates include breakfast, wi-fi, daily maid service and all local tax/service charges.
Chai House is set up as an indoor/outdoor experience. You live close to nature and will have daily visits from ducks, frogs and geckos. Please appreciate the natural setting of the resort and do not expect a 5 star accommodation.
62 year old caucasian male, originally from Holland but living in Bangkok for a number of years now.
Gerry Hallen purchased this villa in 2000
Checked out many places around Ubud but liked this the most.
Socialising is never so easy as in the T-house.
Great for families with kids.
Staying at the Chai House was elegant yet very diverse. It provides the experience of sinking into Balanese culture and village life without having to sacrifice comfortably. The villa is located within an adequate distance of Ubud and is surrounded by lush vegetation. The interior is spacious and provides the majority of amenities that could wish for. Overall a very pleasant experience, one which I would happily relive. Many thanks to the kind staff and Mr Hallen for clear and concise information.
We absolutely loved Chai House! Such a gorgeous little Balinese-style wooden house, full of character with comfortable beds, spacious feel and lots of seating/dining areas, plus open air bathrooms – showering under a beautiful Ubud sky surrounded by bamboo and coconut trees, unforgettable experience!! The pool is really nice and it was so relaxing/serene swimming right next to the rice fields, especially in the early evening before sunset. We saw local children and villagers passing by through the rice fields; such a unique and authentic feel being so close to traditional village life. Putu the driver was great, he was waiting for us at the airport with a big smile and took us on an adventurous day trip (he will tailor to what you like to do); we also rented a motorbike from the T House staff and drove into Ubud town (very busy!) which was 10 minutes’ drive away. If you enjoy being close to nature and seeing the real Bali, I would highly recommend a stay at Chai House. Thanks Gerry!
Negatives: Breakfast was a bit on the small side, recommend to ask for more toast! or buy extras (ham, sausages, etc.) from the local supermarket to keep in the fridge and ask the staff to cook. Coco Supermarket is open until 11pm and has everything you could need!
My family had a wonderful time at the Chai T house. All communication with Gerry was quick and easy. The house was exactly as described. We loved the open air feel and were perfectly comfortable. We made use of the fantastic pool every day. We also enjoyed meeting the other families staying in the compound, everyone was so friendly. The staff was always helpful and pleasant. We were especially grateful for Putu, our driver. He picked us up at the airport and drove us all around Ubud. He took us to so many interesting places, telling us stories and describing life in Bali all the while. We thought it was the perfect accommodation for a laid-back family.
What a lovely place! I was really sad when I had to leave because his place is something really special. The women were just harvesting the rice next to the property, people are so incredible friendly and helpful and Putu as a guide and driver is just invaluable!!!! The pool was so nice that I went every morning even before breakfast for a swim, and it gives you the feeling you are swimming into the rice field. The staff is very helpful, and we have really enjoyed the Indonesian cooking class.
I love the T-House and I am sure I will come back next year! Even my daughter who is just 18 and normally in a party mood has really enjoyed it.
We stayed 3 nights in the Villa and we could not have asked for anything better. The house was clean and taken care of by the local staff daily. The swimming pool facing the rice fields is just feet away and clean. The layout of the house provides many different areas to get comfortable or eat. Just five minutes from town on a motorcycle made it very easy to come and go. The villa complex is in a local neighbourhood which truly gives you the flavour for what Bali is really like. This was my 12th trip to Bali and I have never stayed in a better location. Gerry was very helpful in securing the reservation in such a short amount of time. We hope to go back again next year. Just make sure when finding it the first time you look for the stone markers on the side of the road which could be overlooked. Make sure you take a walk through the rice fields at sunset and follow the family of ducks that live there. Was quite entertaining.
I was convinced (by photos on this website & good communications rec'd from the owner) Chai T was going to be a favourite place to stay, where expectations would not be disappointed. This villa is a true gem, we were not let down.
I differ to reviews that say this is basic accomodation, we thought is was magic, a blended contemporary and traditional design with simple decor & bold colours, totally relaxing, the open/outdoor living we embraced and loved that it allowed you to chill out completely, and we mean completely. The beds were great for sleeping on, upstairs held breathtaking views over the pool through the coconut trees out to the rice paddies, it was picture perfect.
We were two adults & a four year old, we wished we had brought along extra family so they could enjoy what we felt. It's perfect for children, safe, the fish pond lovely & frogs who reside that are gorgeous. We saw fabulous surprises of nature & creatures within the wider villa grounds not typical at resort accomodations. Our son sought this with eagerness. Adventuring through the rice paddies idyllic.
The staff Wayan, Adil, Cuk & the ladies who service the villas daily are amazing. Just ask & they are so willing to assist, so friendly. The driver Putu will take you anywhere, he is fabulous company. We organised a motorbike through the staff, that was the best for exploring Ubud independently & getting to restaurants etc, it was completely safe, we took our four year old everywhere. You just do it how everyone else does in Asia!
The ladies made the yummiest banana pancakes with fresh fruit, we didn't even try any of the omlete options as the pancakes were to die for. Our son wanted to try drinking out of a coconut, which the staff made his day by climbing the tree to get some and cut them open for us. They made our stay sta
We stocked the fridge with our own supplies for lunches & snacks from Coco supermarket. Dining in Ubud is sensational - we recommend Taco Casa & Grill, Siam Sally, Kafe to name a few. The drinking water supply provided in the water cooler dispenser is safe (everywhere else you stay you should drink from sealed bottles, but here don't be concerned as this water is completely safe).
The swimming pool is awesome, we did lengths every morning, it's deep for fun & dives etc, the shallow pool perfect for kids play.
We stayed 7 nights, so wished was more!! We "HIGHLY" recommend Chai T, our son still talks about this place
Villa Chai is a nice, cozy place that I can recommend to everyone who likes the quiet environment of rice fields, and local temples, and who prefers to avoid the tourist crowds and disco’s.
The wooden house – built in traditional Balinese style - is not luxurious, but comfortable and well maintained; the four-poster bed sleeps gorgeously and friendly staff prepares a great breakfast in the morning.
Ubud town, just a few kilometers away, is a lovely small village with several cozy restaurants and many handicraft shops and boutiques. Renting a motorbike is recommended.
I enjoyed the relaxed walks through the rice fields and a visit to the slightly weird Blanco Museum.
Whenever possible, I surely would like to visit Villa Chai again.
Ubud, a town in central Bali, is far removed from the crowded scene in Kuta, and is regarded as the cultural centre of Bali. It is famous as an arts and crafts hub, and much of the town and nearby villages seems to consist of artists' workshops and galleries.
It's a place for contemplation, walking, biking, not to forget shopping and relaxing. Massages, spa's and yoga, it's all there in large quantities and qualities. There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and a general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, surroundings, and climate of the place.
