Hi! My name is Jacki and my husband's name is Saleh. If you love animals and the rushing sound of water, then come have a stay with us! You'll find us down in a narrow mountain valley on the side of a country road.
Here, although not far from the hustle and bustle of town, you can actually have a little taste of the wilderness and get to know all of the animals. There are four sheep, Lucy, Leo, Lulu, and Lola, an aviary with geese, ducks, chickens and pigeons, and a pot belly pig named Wilbur, not to mention our five dogs and seven cats! All of the animals are friendly and loved to be pet and fed their favorite treats!
After some gentle recuperation time, you can take off to see the sights and sounds of Asheville's many beautiful craft shops, fine restaurants, and local breweries, go for a day of hiking in the many famous mountain trails in our area, or, in Winter, go skiing at Wolf Ridge Ski Resort which is right above us. Snow skiing, snowboarding, and tube runs are offered with fifteen slopes. Perfect for the family!
We have lived here on Miller Branch Road in Mars Hill, NC for seventeen years now. Saleh, who is also an artist, built our home and, over the years, I've rescued animals. As the house grew larger, so did my desire to have a vacation rental centered around the animals and now we have the Enchanting Farmyard Duplex so I can share my love for the animals with other animal lovers!
The apartment you will be staying in is in our home, which is a duplex, and provides complete privacy. (None of the animals are allowed in the apartment.) It is a one-bedroom with a queen sized bed, and a full sized futon in the living room. It is decorated with many antiques. A couple will find it very romantic. Three people can also be very comfortable, or two adults and two children. Children love it here and we love the children! All we ask is that they are accompanied by a parent when they are outside. Also, a single person, as well as artists and writers will enjoy being here. There is a lovely covered porch which sits right over the creek and looks straight into the aviary. The sheep come right up to be pet and fed some bread. The porch has a breakfast bar for the mornings or to have a beer at in the evenings. It can be truly enchanting just to sit and listen to the water as you watch the animals. On the porch also is a a little 'egg' for barbecuing. There is a fire pit in the yard when evenings cool down in Fall and Winter.
Our location is unique. We are right below a ski resort. We are seven minutes from the highway and are central to Asheville, Mars Hill, and the quaint town of Burnsville. North Asheville is twenty-five minutes away, while Mars Hill is ten minutes away, and Burnsville is fifteen. Here, you can retreat and recuperate, yet when you feel like 'going', everything is just close enough!
About our road : Miller Branch Rd is a hard-packed gravel - dirt road which, although not steep nor curvy, does gently waffle in some spots, making it a bit bumpy here and there. The most comfortable cars to drive on the road are cars with medium to high clearance. Low clearance cars must drive slowly and very low clearance cars are discouraged. We are just a half mile up from the asphalt road called Fox Creek.
Also, we have a 2nd vacation rental on our property right across from the Enchanting Cottage called The Tiny Gingerbread Home. So if you have friends or family that you want to bring along the Gingerbread would work wonderfully! You can find it on the site as well.
So come and have a lovely stay - and check out our weekly discounts - we look forward to meeting you one day! Jacki
