We are already accepting 2018 reservations, so plan now. We have had 7 straight summers being completely booked-- and we expect the same of 2018!

So make summer 2018 memories on Sand Lake!

Adorable cabin on the golf course bay of Sand Lake, great swimming, fishing, boating, golfing. Also ATV, kayak, pontoon rental nearby! Summer 2017 marked our 7th year of providing guests with lifelong memories of a week at the lake.

After a 100-mile drive north from Minneapolis/St Paul you'll arrive at a storybook cottage surrounded by tall white pines. Inspired by ocean beach cottages, this nautical-themed gem has the most amazing boathouse rooftop deck on the lake! Drink your morning coffee watching the loons; spend your afternoon sun-bathing; your cocktail time munching on cheese and crackers with a glass of wine; and your evenings stargazing and spotting the Northern Lights-- all from the roof of your own private boathouse deck.

Sand Lake Cottage is well-appointed and decorated for relaxation and fun. You'll find a well-stocked kitchen, including large fridge and dishwasher, all new stainless appliances added in 2017. There's a huge set of dishes, and ample cutlery, wineglasses, cookware, linens and pantry items - everything you need.

Curl up on the red wicker furniture or the comfy sofa in the living room and warm up by the wood-burning fireplace. You will find plenty of indoor entertainment: 3 TVs, cable, internet and excellent WiFi, DVD library, board games.

From the shady screened porch you can look out on the yard, gardens, the campfire ring. Catch panfish, northerns, and bass from the end of the dock. Or snip some flowers from the gardens for a bouquet for the patio table, or help yourself to the herb garden.

Enjoy water sports of every kind from the dock. Swim, float, kayak, rent a pontoon, go tubing, boat over to the golf course and have pizza, appetizers, and drinks in the clubhouse.

There's plenty to see and do off the water -- bike the Munger Trail, play golf at the Moose Lake Golf Club, hike Jay Cooke State Park, head to the town of Moose Lake for shopping, dining, a movie, visit Black Bear Casino or Grand Casino, or take a day-trip to Duluth or the North Shore.

Pontoon or fishing boats, kayaks, ATVs are all available nearby to rent for a few hours or few days!

About Sharron FitzGerald

In 1988 we bought a cabin on Sand Lake which is down the lane from the rental cabin, but about a dozen cabins apart.

I spend my summers there and I know the area and people well and I enjoy sharing that information with guests who are looking for a vacation with that "local" feeling. I greet all my guests at check-in and bid farewell at check-out; other than that I respect your privacy. However, should you need assistance I am close by and happy to help you.

Why Sharron FitzGerald chose Sturgeon Lake

In 2009, after twelve years of owning the old, uninhabitable cottage we had an architect draw up a new floor plan, and by 2010 the rebuilding was complete. We kept the original wood floors in the front room, but everything else is new! The cottage is now a private vacation rental property for you to enjoy.

What makes this cabin unique

Sand Lake has the climate of the North Shore without the long drive from the Twin Cities metro area. Towering white pines, red oaks, and maple trees cover the area, and the 'air-conditioned' climate of Duluth provides cool nights and warm days, and you can enjoy all the pleasures of a full recreational lake -- swim, waterski, boat, fish for northerns, bass, muskie, panfish.

Best vacation rental ever!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage! Easiest vacation ever! Name it, and it was available. I have been to cabins where I have to bring many items, causing a lot of Work with packing to go out of town for many years! Not this place! So comfortable, nice inside fireplace, tastefully decorated, couldn't ask for more! Love the grounds and privacy! The porch is nice too! Great fishing off the dock! Definitely will return to this gem :)

Incredible week. Everything about this rental cottage is outstanding. If you are thinking of renting a cabin, Sand Lake Cottage should be your first choice. On a scale of 1-10 this was definitely a 10.

Fabulous cottage vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Oh my, my hubby and I wanted to stay another week! Lovely cottage with a true Up North feel. Quaint and peaceful, with a great front deck, big yard, fire pit, dock (great for swimming in the clear water), and boat house with a large sun deck! Beautiful views from everywhere. Nice little screened porch on the side of house too. Cottage had everything we needed, great kitchen supplies, linens, perfect pillows! We didn't use the bunk house but it was adorable. Loved all the decor. The place is spotless and well cared for. Owner Sharon is so friendly and helpful. We will be back!! p.s. go to golf course across lake, even if you don't golf-for a drink and some food!

Cape Cod in Lake Country

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four spent a wonderful week at this cabin. With everything decorated tastefully in nautical lake cabin style with an antique flair, we felt very much at home. The cabin is impeccably clean and seemed larger than pictures portrayed on the website. Sharron greeted us on arrival and oriented us to the property. She is a friendly and outgoing woman who wants to ensure a comfortable stay. We highly recommend this property for anyone who is looking for relaxation at the lake for boating, fishing, swimming, nearby hiking or biking. If you are interested in golfing you can boat across the lake to the awesome Moose Lake Golf course (not often you get to boat to golf!!). We cooked most of our meals but tried out some of the local fare that was good.

Summer Camp Nostalgia

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Sand Lake Cottage brought me back to my summer camp days in Northern Minnesota! The cottage is great for families, couples, and travelers who want a lake front experience. We had a great time waterskiing and swimming around. The lake is beautiful and we caught lots of fish for dinner. One day, we went to the golf course across the lake for pizza and beer and met a friendly crowd of locals. Our week was a nice refreshing break from city life. Sharron is a gem!

A wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Sand Lake Cottage because of the location, beautiful view of the lake, the upkeep of the cabin, and for the attention to the finer details. The kitchen has everything you need including olive oil, which I really appreciate:). There's no wishing you had some salt, ketchup, or mustard, it's there! A barbecue all ready to go along with a wine bottle opener and (real) wine glasses. Sharron even puts the best laundry detergent for you to use. The beds are comfortable with quality bedding, too. We enjoyed the rather large lake and caught many fish. Thank you Sharron for a wonderful stay. We shall return soon.
