Relax and enjoy spectacular waterfront sunsets year round from our beautiful, peaceful lakefront home. Only 10-15 minutes from Bellingham's core areas, yet a million miles away from the rush of city life. Our home is ideally located on a dead-end road, in a very quiet section of the highly sought-after sunny side of the lake. We enjoy bright sun well into the evening year round. Our home is perched just above the lake at an ideal elevation - high enough to offer an unparalleled, panoramic view of the lake removed from any boat noise, but low enough to be just steps away from our private beach. We have wonderful neighbors, but our property is so private that you may never see them.
Constructed of cedar logs and situated on 1.1 park-like acres with over 200 feet of no bank private water front, our spacious home feels like a resort lodge. The house includes 4 large bedrooms plus a loft, a bright well-equipped kitchen, a large open living area with floor to ceiling windows, a recreation/home theater room, and a large jacuzzi/soaking tub. We can sleep 6 in real beds. A 4th bedroom is currently used as a study, but can hold a queen air mattress to sleep 8. The loft holds a double futon to bring the total to 10. A large dining table just off the kitchen on the expansive deck provides a great spot for alfresco dining. Our study is equipped with a large built-in desk, high speed internet connection and printer. In addition, we have high speed wireless access throughout the house. With lots of southern exposure the house is bright and sunny year round, offering spectacular views from almost every room.
There is no shortage of recreational activities. Two kayaks and a small aluminum fishing boat with electric motor are available to explore the water in our backyard. If you'd like to bring your own ski boat, we have a dock and one of the few private boat launches on the lake. Our spacious private beach is double the size of most other lakefront properties in the area. It includes a large dock, fire ring, two picnic tables, a BBQ, lots of seating and plenty of space for waterside relaxation and games. As is true with most properties in our section of the lake, the house is set across the road from the beach and at a slight elevation, which affords stellar views, peace and privacy. The beach is just steps across a very low traffic, quiet road and can be accessed via a set of stairs from the house. Those with mobility issues can conveniently drive right up to the beach.
On rainy days, you can choose from a large library, a wide selection of family games, or a home theater room with a 62' television, X-Box 360 and a large collection of video games, Blu-Ray and DVDs. On the main level, the large open living room has a stereo, but no television, and is a great place to curl up with a book by the fireplace or just enjoy the panoramic view through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
There are many great spots to escape with a good book or just to enjoy the view and the wildlife (eagles, deer, and geese are all frequently sighted). You can also fish from the dock or enjoy a scenic walk on the 3 mile long lakeside trail that starts a short stroll from our home. Keep in shape with a well-equipped home gym (elliptical, recumbent bike, free weights and squat rack). Take a bike ride along the lake. Golf on one of Bellingham's many excellent courses. Ski or snowboard at Mt Baker. Or best yet, simply relax on the expansive deck with family, friends and your beverage of choice. Whatever your interest, there is something here for everyone in every season.
We are Kerrie and Jaret. Together, we own a management consulting/software company that provides us with many opportunities for international travel. We have three fantastic nearly-grown boys. We love visiting new and unexpected places, meeting new people and learning about other cultures. Our interests include tennis, photography, sailing, boating, gardening, cooking, and hiking.
Kerrie and Jaret Hauge purchased this house in 2006
Jaret is from Canada and Kerrie is from San Diego. Average the two together and you get this beautiful Northwest college town. We love the incredibly scenic, peaceful surroundings, with all the best the Northwest has to offer, yet within 1.5 hours of both Seattle and Vancouver, BC.
This home offers a magical mix of nature, serenity, one of the very best views on Lake Whatcom and fun! We've enjoyed many wonderful days with friends and family here and hope that your family will enjoy it as much as we do.
A group of us came out to Lake Whatcom to have a relaxing weekend away from city life, and be closer to Mt. Baker for a ski day. Kerrie and Jaret's home was just what we were looking for! It was spacious, clean, tactfully decorated, and had lots of great little perks like a hot tub, patio with heater, blankets everywhere for cozying up, lots of parking, a downstairs living room, and lots of bedrooms- for adults! (no bunk beds!) The kitchen was fully stocked, too, which was nice because we cooked almost every meal there. Lastly, the view is pretty incredible. With the south-facing walls almost completely made up of windows, all you see is lake...and you just want to sit down, put your feet up, and relax. We are already talking about our next trip back!
PS- The hosts, Kerrie and Jaret, were responsive, polite, and accommodating when we reached out with questions beforehand,.
Clean, well stocked, lots of room to hang out. Beautiful view.
Great to leave busy Seattle behind and spend a few days looking at sparkling water and evergreen hillsides. Very well-appointed home and a very thorough welcome book with explanations. Safe for little kids too. Thoroughly relaxing!
It is a wonderful property. We loved it. Everything is cared for and well explained.
It was our second stay at this beautiful house with a spectacular view just minutes away from the lake. We really enjoy spending time here. It is very bright, very clean, cozy house. While staying here you feel like at home! Thank you Jaret and Kerrie.
We loved our stay! The home and veiws were beautiful. The owners were very kind, made our stay so easy and were helpful with questions. We are already planning to book again this summer with the kids. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us! Look forward to booking with you again soon.
Bellingham is a vibrant small city located roughly half-way between Seattle and Vancouver, BC. It is also within an easy day trip of the Mt Baker Ski Area, excellent hiking, and the San Juan Islands.
