Our stay here at Flemingstown House was wonderful. This was my first experience in booking a house internationally. I was a bit nervous but went ahead anyway. Imelda was just wonderful. Everything that she told us and the description on the Home Away web site was just as she described it. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a wonderful spread of meats, cheeses, crackers and fruit. The fireplaces were lit and the house was warm and inviting. We were so pleased with everything about the house. It was clean, neat, well furnished and well maintained. Everything worked just as you would expect. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked at least 4 different nights without any issues. The grocery is close by so it is easy to get the items you need. We stayed in this home for several specific reasons. First it was large enough to accommodate our party which was 10-11 depending on the day, for most of the trip. It was perfectly located for us to sight see. We went to the Dingle Peninsula, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Straffan, 5 different castles, and many wonderful small towns. It was easy to return and make our own dinner instead of eating out every night. Also we made our own breakfast each day and the kitchen was wonderful to work in. We were very glad for the rural setting which provided us with a quiet and serene place to just relax in the evening. I can easily and enthusiastically recommend this home as a great place to be when you want to come and visit the country of Ireland. Can't wait to return and explore more of Ireland.
Almost every year we (a group of five couples) rent a house somewhere in Europe and spend a week resting or travelling in the immediate area. I can state with confidence (backed by the unanimous vote of my friends) that nowhere else in our 15 years experience was the lodging of such high quality, the hospitality so grand, and at the same time the atmosphere so home-like. We cannot thank Imelda enough for her efforts, her kindness, and for so meticulously taking care of all our needs, large and small. Add to that the beauty and tranquility of the countryside, and you find it really difficult to leave….
We have just returned to the States following a lovely one week stay at Flemingstown House. It was a vacation with my 4 siblings and their spouses. I had been eyeing Flemingstown House for several years with the thought of renting it one day for just this occasion. The idea of five ensuite bedrooms was most appealing, but the real selling point was the beauty of the home itself. As many reviews have already stated, the photos were "spot on". The coziness of the home despite its size was another selling point. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out, but still feel connected to each other.
The location of the home was another bonus. It is located perfectly to tour southwest Ireland. And after a long day of touring, it was great to come home to our beautiful house.
I know the other reviews have all mentioned Imelda and I cannot agree more with their thoughts about our hostess. She was easy to communicate with the months before our trip and very informative. Mainly though, she was a warm and welcoming presence when we arrived, and ,anytime afterward if information or advice was needed. She was very respectful of our privacy and only appeared when needed to answer a question or two. She was a gem!
We continued our tour in Ireland to the Wicklow Mountains and Dublin, but the highlight for me was our stay in Flemingstown House. Beautiful home in the lovely Irish countryside.
The Book of Kells may be one of the Irish treasures of Western Civilization but Imelda Sheehy-Smith and Flemingstown House should rank right up there. Radiating Celtic graciousness, Imelda opened up “Flemingstown” her lovely country house to us. After a an orientation meeting, she handed the keys over to us saying that the house was ours for the duration of our visit. She made herself available for house questions and travel concerns, but said that she would enter only at our invitation on future visits.
Flemingstown itself is a reflection of the openess and warmth of its owner. The grounds are buccolic and lovingly maintained and each ensuite bedroom was even better than the on-line views. There were 10 travelers in our band of friends and the well-appointed beautifully organized kitchen made meal preparation both easy and a pleasure.
Our hostess put no limits upon us in the house, and there were multiple sitting rooms and suny spaces for solitude or conviviality. My husband I are seasoned travelers who frequent local B and B’s and country Inns on our trips, and Imela and Flemingstown are in the Pantheon of the “Great Ones”
We rented the Flemingstown House for a week with friends and had a great time. It was such a peaceful, convenient, and relaxing base station while we explored Ireland. The owner/manager was extremely friendly and helpful but not intrusive. A herd of grazing cows nearby enhanced the experience and ambience. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place and would return.
We travelled as a large group so this beautiful house with its lovely bedrooms all with ensuite bathrooms was perfect for us. The common spaces - a gourmet kitchen with every appliance and kitchen gadget one could need, informal and more formal dining areas and living rooms made for a memorable visit for all of us. It really felt like home! Grounds are beautiful and location works well as a home base for seeing western Ireland. Imelda, the owner, could not have been more helpful. Would go back in a heartbeat and recommend enthusiastically.
