Overview

About the property

4 bedroom, 4 1/2 baths in a beautiful, park-like setting with many mature trees

The Treehouse is an incredible three-story home located in an exclusive, gated community of only 6 grand residences. Set in the most sought after part of San Miguel, the homes in this private enclave were all designed and built by the famous Hawaiian architect, Norman Lacayo. His vision was to create a seamless juxtaposition of modern angles with the warmth and charm of old, colonial Mexico and the tranquility of nature. Because 2 large, mature trees on the building site were saved and incorporated into the walls of this home when it was designed, locals often refer to it as 'The Treehouse'.

Hallmarks of this elegant home are the soothing shades of charcoal, cafe, cream, gold, deep red and violet. The clean lines, contemporary furnishings and soothing decorative style are a refreshing change from the sometimes overwhelming bright Mexican colors and tiles!

Besides its beauty, the Treehouse also enjoys the most prestigious locale available in San Miguel; one block south on the beautiful tree-lined street, Cañadita de Los Aguacates. It is situated right next to the historic Sierra Nevada Hotel and very close to the luxurious Rosewood and Matilda boutique hotels. Only 1 short block away is the Parque Juarez (our beautiful, tree and plant-filled park), where you'll find a popular basketball court, morning exercise classes (yoga/zumba/tai chi), a myriad of walkers/runners all hours of the day, a modern playground for the kids, various ice cream and snack vendors, local marching bands practicing for their upcoming parade, and possibly even young men honing their bullfighting skills - without the bulls of course! Only 4.5 blocks away, along the charming street Calle Recreo, is the Jardin Principal (the main square in the historic center), where you'll find daily/nightly music and art events and various local food vendor carts.

When staying at the Treehouse, you'll enjoy being within an easy walk to almost everything. Yet, when you are ready to return, you'll enter a peaceful, private and safe abode. Guests frequently comment on the utter tranquility one feels while relaxing in this quiet, extremely comfortable and safe home. Usually, the loudest thing you'll hear is the mourning doves singing outside your windows!

When you first enter our home from the front (ground floor), immediately on your right, you'll find our large, guest bedroom with king-sized bed, private bath, wooden desk and leather desk chair - if you must work while on vacation! Its wall of windows look out onto our cobble-stoned entrance area (with parking for 1 car) that's shaded by large, mature trees. Take the stairs, and ascend to the first floor where you will find the other 3 bedrooms. These bedrooms are comprised of 2 master suites, each with a king bed and private bath and an additional small, but cozy bedroom next to the guest suite that's perfect for children, teens or a nanny, as it has its own private bath and a twin daybed with an additional twin pull-out trundle bed beneath. Ascend one more floor to the second level (top floor), for amazing views across the park and the mmutiple church spires of San Miguel. On this floor you'll find a very well-stocked kitchen, wet bar, living room, dining area for 8 and a glorious, outdoor entertainment area. Another more intimate patio is just off the dining room and kitchen; a quiet, restful spot where you can take your morning coffee while listening to the soothing sound of water flowing in our pretty, cantera-stone fountain.

To make your stay even more sumptuous, all beds have 3-inch thick memory foam toppers, luxurious, Egyptian cotton sheets (400 and 600 thread-count) and super-soft, micro-plush blankets. To keep you warm during those chilly times of year, we also have micro-plush electric blankets and warm duvets.

Our state-of-the-art, whole-house water purification/treatment system (with ultraviolet (UV) light sanitizer, 3 different levels of filtration and water softener) allows our guests to safely drink water from any tap in our home. Our new, stainless steel refrigerator uses this same purified and filtered water to provide cold water in the door and ice in the freezer.

All utilities and housekeeping/gardener service 3 times/week (Monday/Wednesday/Friday) is included in the rental prices. If needed, additional housekeeping, gardening and/or a private cook can be made available for an additional fee.

About Owner

Over the years we've had the opportunity to travel to many incredible places in the world, and have been exposed to a myriad of amazing cultures, languages & people. These international experiences had a huge impact on us, shaping our world view in a big way. So much so, that we decided to set about crafting a part-time ex-pat life for ourselves in 2 of our favorite countries - Mexico & France - and we are thrilled with the unconventional life we've chosen!

We currently own homes in the US, Mexico and France & when we aren't able to use them, we offer them to other adventurous people like you!

Owner purchased this house in 2013

Why Owner chose Chorro

We first saw San Miguel 20 years ago & swore that somehow...someday...we would find a way to live here! We began our search for a home here 8 years ago via the internet. Then, 7 years ago, we took the plunge & starting living in San Miguel part of the year, still looking for our dream home, while renting other people's lovely homes in the meantime.

We found that most homes in San Miguel don't offer a lot of privacy and outdoor space because they are essentially townhouses (sharing 3 of their walls with other homes). We also found many homes are often are quite dark and cave-like inside. So, when we saw the Treehouse, (located right next to Parque Juarez), and we saw the extensive, lushly landscaped gardens with large mature trees and how incredibly light-filled, spacious and private this property felt both inside and out, we knew we'd finally found our home!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hi Cindi -

We had a great stay in your house in San Miguel. Thank you. Everything worked perfectly and the house had everything one could want. Lulu and her husband were very helpful.

Thanks again.

Too short a stay in this fabulous house

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I are a couple in our late 60s and although I am not suffering from any disabilities or ailments, my wife has had some issues with walking since receiving some arthroscopic knee surgery three years ago. I begin with this to set the tone of this review for reasons that will be apparent later.

The house could not have been better suited for our needs; three tastefully decorated rooms with full en suites provided privacy for all (there was a fourth room which was not needed) while we limited our socializing within the house to the dining room and fabulous patio area overlooking the surrounding area.

The location of the house was particularly good for us all. We could easily walk into town and despite the cobblestone roads and narrow sidewalks; we did not feel impacted by it all. A park sits within a few hundred yards of the house and offers entertainment of all kinds on any given day such as watching a group play basketball, local artists displaying their goods or a pre-wedding parade in honor of a future bride and groom.

Cindi (the owner) has been nothing short of extraordinary in accommodating us. This was a trip that was more than a year in the planning to celebrate my wife’s 70th birthday and Cindi was with me from the very first day. She supplied me with countless bits of information beyond what the house had to offer, from a list of restaurants, to emergency telephone numbers and to/from airport reliable transportation needs. The elevator in the house was defective and offered to re-imburse our deposit should we wish to cancel because of this. The need for the elevator, although a very nice addition to the house was never an issue. Cindi was a terrific host, the Tree House a fantastic residence and San Miguel an exceptional place to visit if not reside.

Finally, the piece-de-resistance, Lulu. Siñorita Lulu is an employee of the owner whom I hired to provide our group a few meals during our stay. She prepared and served us some of our best meals during our stay. She managed to exceed all of our expectations and we could not have been more pleased. The meals were authentic Mexican by design, plentiful and simply delicious. I highly recommend to anyone wishing to have some home cooked meals while visiting the Tree House, please ask Cindi if you can hire Siñorita Lulu. You will not be disappointed.

Enjoy San Miguel de Allende and enjoy the Tree House, we have.

Great visit

  • 4 of 5

The house is as described. We were there during the rainy season and had to deal with mosquitoes. We bought a device at LaComer, plugged it in, and were pretty comfortable from then on. Need one for not only each bedroom but upstairs living area as well. Staff was kind and helpful.

Perfect home for celebrating 50th Anniversary with family.

  • 5 of 5

We could not have asked for a more perfect place to spend seven days with our children and grandchildren. Centrally located for playing at Parque Juarez, walking to the Paroquia and Jardin, ambling through the Mercado and beautiful shops and, of course, enjoying the delicious food and live music at numerous restaurants.

The house was a treat in itself. Everything was as lovely and well-equipped as advertised. The nine of us spent much of our time in the spacious living room and rooftop terrace playing games, reading, planning excursions and just talking and laughing together. And the beautiful bedrooms were a welcome respite for alone time and sleep.

Our two major excursions were great fun for all ages -- the Xote Water Park and horseback riding at Coyote Canyon Adventures. Both were safe and well-run.

San Miguel de Allende is a magical place and the Treehouse was heavenly! We highly recommend both.

Late notice and promises not delivered

  • 2 of 5

The house is stunning architecturally, BUT, the house adjacent and attached was under full-blown reconstruction. The owner advised us of a potentially noisy situation only one week prior to our arrival and we were offered the return of our deposit and the invitation to look elsewhere for a scheduled one month stay – not the easiest achievement in SMA. Often four to five pick up trucks were parked in front of our entrance. The noise of exterior and interior construction is self-explanatory.

The MOST significant problem was the non-working elevator. We were told – only upon our arrival – that repairs had been ordered. After nearly a month’s stay, no repairs were ever made. There are some thirty steps to get from the entrance to the kitchen, and as a group of 70 year olds, we were counting on this amenity-advertised elevator due to health issues we and our guest have. Because of the non-working elevator, we requested, upon our return, an adjustment to the rental fee. We never got a response from the owner.

Renter Beware!

Owner's Response: This review was actually from 7 months ago (March 2017). Our neighbors haven't had any more work done in their home since then. And, even then, the work that was done in March was not "full-blown reconstruction". That's an untrue statement just meant to cause our other potential guests concern. The work only entailed replacing some floor tiles and repainting a stairwell. And, if you do end up staying in our beautiful home, you'll be able to see for yourself that there isn't even room in front of our home for 4 or 5 trucks to be parked.... As this guest knows, we only found out about our neighbor's painting and re-tiling plans approximately 1 week before this guest's arrival. However, within hours of finding out, we did the right thing and informed this guest about it. We apologized profusely over and over about this unexpected inconvenience. We also tried to do what we could to help....we offered to immediately refund all his money, and help him find another place to stay. But, he was not interested in discussing or considering any possible options. He insisted on staying in our home and demanded that we get our neighbors to reschedule the work in their home. As you might guess, that was unfortunately not a viable option.... To add to the perfect storm, our elevator stopped working in the morning the same day this guest was to arrive. So, we couldn't inform him ahead of time. However, we did immediately called the Otis elevator folks in Mexico City and requested an urgent repair. Unfortunately, our sense of urgency about the repair was not shared by Otis.... Even after many phone calls and emails, it took them over 3 months to repair it. Sometimes things happen that nobody can control. That's just life as we know it! And, while we definitely understand that everyone is disappointed and upset when things happen, that never warrants treating other people poorly or with disrespect.

What a neat house!

  • 5 of 5

First time in San Miguel and this house really worked well for what we needed. We were here for a wedding at the Rosewood Hotel which was just a quick stroll through the park. Everyone had their own space and keys which made it nice when coming back at different times in the night. The patio was by far our favorite place. The views were amazing and it was nice when it rained one day, all covered. The beds were all extremely comfortable which was welcoming after walking everywhere all day. Only down side were the dang mosquitoes!! Other than that we would highly recommend it!! Thank you Cindi!

Spectacular house "at one" with the outdoors.

  • 5 of 5

Our 3 generations we're very comfortable in this spacious property. We had a view of the Cathedral and surrounding city, fireworks, hot air balloon launch. Short walk to downtown and the our favorite evening hangout, the Luna rooftop bar at the Rosewood Hotel. If the elevator is not working, be prepared to climb up 40 stairs to the main living level!

Lulu cooked delicious food and shopped for our basic supplies. Very helpful.
