Sunny Farm is an historic 1790 period home on 3 levels which was done over by a well-known historic designer. It is filled with carefully chosen period antiques and has original wood beams and wide-board wood floors. The home was featured on the cover of Connecticut Cottages and Gardens in March, 2012. It has a private location with no road noise and faces the Killingworth Commons , a private 4 acre commons for 6 historic homes which were moved to the site 30 years ago. The house has a huge, beamed kitchen with a La Cornue gas stove, state of the art appliances and concrete island and surfaces. The huge master king bedroom was constructed from an old barn and is separate from the rest of the house, connected by a passageway. It has a double height beamed ceiling and an enormous bathroom with a huge glassed shower and free-standing tub.

The 3300 sq ft. home has 3 working historic fireplaces,a charming keeping room with library, formal dining room and a period panelled living room overlooking the green with a 40' flat-screen TV with access to Amazon, Nextflix, etc. Downstairs is a queen bedroom with its own full bathroom and separate entrance. Upstairs are 2 queen bedrooms and a small bedroom with 2 single beds, perfect for kids. We have a swing, sporting equipment, games, and some toys for children. The rental includes free kayak rentals at the CT River Museum in Essex.

There is a full bath upstairs and an additional 1/2 bath on the main floor. The house is centrally air conditioned and has Wi-Fi.

A beautiful formal garden serves as an outdoor sitting/dining area.

There are a professional gas grill and a "Big Green Egg" Japanese-style charcoal grill/smoker in a food preparation area next to the formal garden.

Rental includes the services of a gardener and pool maintenance weekly.

Maid service is available for an extra charge.

A new heated saline gunnite pool and spa are located on the opposite side of the house. The pool has an automatic electric cover for safety. The 4 acre grass commons is safe and perfect for kids and dogs running around.

The house is centrally located between the shoreline towns of Madison, Clinton and Old Saybrook and the CT. river towns of Essex and Chester. The CT. River Museum, an historic steam train, sailing and river tours are available in Essex. The best French restaurant in CT is 10 minutes away, as is the largest LI Sound beach in CT, a beautiful small lake beach, 3 live theaters, and numerous opportunities for kayaking, sailing, river tours and boating. About Allan Rubenstein

The owners are busy NY professionals who use the house on weekends and for part of the Summer. We travel extensively and rent the house when we are busy or away.

Allan Rubenstein purchased this chateau / country house in 2012

Why Allan Rubenstein chose Killingworth

Essex has one of the most beautiful harbors in New England. Clinton has the largest sandy LI sound beach in Connecticut. We are located exactly 1/2 way between the two in a quiet, unique setting which feels like living in an 18th century New England village (with plenty of privacy).

We are interested in historic preservation and authenticity; our home was renovated by a well-known architectural designer in a thoughtful manner with exacting attention to detail and European (French) touches.

It is one of the most beautiful and unique period American homes we have ever seen. We bought it after seeing it for the first time

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The house reminds us of living in a New England village in the 18th century with airy spaces, state of the art kitchen, bathrooms and central air conditioning. The new heated gunnite pool/spa will make it a perfect spot for families/couples who want a private, historic location near the water, boating and beaches.
