About Tony Bowler

We have lived in Hageraman Valley for almost 40 years. Whether it is the mornings or afternoons, the beauty of this area is breathtaking. We live here because the Snake River provides a visual and soulful experience, we can't live without.

Tony Bowler purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Tony Bowler chose Idaho

The River Cabin is a lovely place to stay. We have furnished it with everything to make a vacation rental comfortable and entertaining. The landscaping is ideal for yard games, sunbathing, picnicking, campfires and it's beautifully nestled into it's own secluded location.

What makes this cottage unique

WATERFRONT WITH A DOCK - Wakeboarding and Skiing,

canoes, swimming, fishing and anything else to do with the water. Seven miles of Upper Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir for your pleasure. Blue Heart Springs is the 19th largest fresh-water spring in the world and is always an amazing place to visit. Bird-watching, photography, an artists dream of color and shape, so much make this a spectacular place.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was a very nice two bedroom cabin. Great beds and pillows and wonderful view of the snake river. Getting up in the morning and having coffee on the dock you are treated to the best water foul show around.

Will be coming back. Great day trips from the location. Hots Springs, tour the fish farms, and not far from ice caves. Management was excellent to work with. Don and Susan give it 5 stars. Aug 12th to Aug 17th 2013

Hagerman Valley is southern Idaho's Oasis. When traveling across the desert, it looks barren. Bliss, Idaho is the northern gateway to 40 miles of the Snake River Scenic Byway on Hwy. 30. Water in abundance from rivers, lakes and springs. The landscape is transformed by lush greenery and vegetation.

How do you have fun? There's something here for you!

1. Bird watching - the highest density of bird species in Idaho, maybe the West.

2. Fishing - trout, bass, crappie, crayfish, sturgeon

3. Boating - 2 long and deep reservoirs for wakeboarding, skiing and sightseeing

4. Rafting and Kayaking - Some of the best white water in Idaho. Start from the Malad River confluence and goes to the Bliss bridge take-out, over 8 miles of wild river.

5. Historic places of interest - Thousand Springs, Balanced Rock, Hagerman Fossil Beds, Oregon Trail, Blue Heart Springs, City of the Rocks and much more.

6. Public access - 9 Idaho state parks, boat ramps, fishing for everyone including ADA, walking trails and scenic overlooks.

Hagerman Valley was formed 40,000 to 50,000 years ago by two separate geological events.

1.The Bonneville Flood was a torrent of biblical proportion that cut through Utah, Idaho and Washington. Hagerman Valley was scoured by BILLIONS of gallons of water, hundreds of feet deep.

2. At the same time, The Great Rift Lava Flow released mile after mile of flowing lava that blanketed what is now South-Central Idaho. When the flowing lava encountered the high water of the Bonneville Flood, the vertical lava walls of Hagerman Valley were formed.

The lava flow also created the Snake River Basin Aquifer and the pure water originating from as far as Yellow Stone Park and the Teton Mountains of Wyoming, pours out of Hagerman Valley's lava walls into the Snake River. This is called Thousand Springs and these magnificant springs can be found up and down Hagerman Valley for 30 miles.

A lovely property

  • 4 of 5

This was a nice little house with a gorgeous view of the lake. We enjoyed the large outside deck and many of the features. Our only suggestion is to have the mattresses and pillows updated for more comfort. The property is conveniently located to the Hot Springs and Wineries. Would definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for staying at The River Cabin. We are pleased you had a great time. We've made it easy and comfortable so folks can just come and relax. I appreciate your comments about the mattresses. We have that on our list. As you know, we have just replaced some of the old aluminum windows with new vinyl windows, replaced the front door and painted the exterior. We have also added a couch bed in the living room that brings our bed count to 8. We make a concerted effort to keep the place in a high quality condition for your enjoyment. Jane and I hope to see you again soon. Best, Tony

Coffee on the porch

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights and when doing happy / crappy's with the family of our trip, everyone said getting up and having coffee on the porch was definitely a big "happy". It was so relaxing looking out at the river and getting visits by Olive (what a sweet dog) every morning.

Great location! Terrific owner!

  • 5 of 5

I've read a few previous reviews and I'm happy to report that the mattresses and pillows must have been replaced because they were extremely comfortable. Tony is a very responsive owner and was great about answering questions and giving information, both before we arrived and while we were there. Olive the dog is very sweet, too. I wish we could have stayed longer.

It's a great area too, and I highly recommend Malad Gorge and Shoshone Falls - spectacular sights we were not at all expecting.
