About Connie and Andrew

Fun loving couple, semi retired from the entertainment business, now living in the jungles of east Hawaii. World travelers, we spend most our days organic farming and building our rammed earth house. We live up the road from the Rainforest Hideaway on a separate property. Our friendly and well behaved dogs, Jackson and Frankie, often join us to greet our guests upon arrival. Andrew, originally from Australia, designs and builds custom homes and is a FEO Officer and tanker driver for the local Volunteer Fire Department. Connie is a wardrobe stylist and yoga instructor at her own yoga studio in Pahoa.

Connie and Andrew purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Connie and Andrew chose Ainaloa

The Enchanting Rainforest Hideaway is a unique and very private property. Located in a rare old growth jungle/rainforest area of Puna with many native and exotic plants and trees, yet still just a mile from the highway, 200 ft. off a paved road. (unpaved road is maintained and fine for rental cars) The perfect location to get away from it all but still be close enough to all the sights, restaurants and activites. Many other places you share the house or property with others, but not here. This is 2 acres all to yourself, beautifully landscaped with many extra touches to make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable.

What makes this cabin unique

Enchanting Rainforest Hideaway has been awarded 2014, 15,16, 17 Certificate of Excellence and Super host status for consistently earning top ratings from our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The rainforest hideaway was everything I wanted and then some! Andrew and Connie greeted me and made sure I had everything I needed before leaving me to total privacy. I loved the outdoor shower but couldn't resist the claw foot a few times. Four weeks in the Hideaway was four weeks in paradise! Thanks Condrew! Five stars from this happy guest!

Garden of eden in the rain forest

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days to explore VNP and Puna. The cabin is extremely well appointed and supplied with no detail left untouched. Taking an outdoor shower in the rain is a sensation we thought never to experience. On any other vacation daily rain would be a disaster but not here the frog serenade is a bit disconcerting until you get used to it......then it becomes white noise

Highly recommend for a memorable experience

Perfect secluded cottage with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

The Enchanting Forest Hideaway reminded us of “Froggy Cabin” (from the quirky TV series “The Guest Book”) and is a beautiful hideaway with total seclusion (something important to us) and the constant presence of nature in the form of birds and frogs singing pretty much all the time. Although the owner supplies earplugs for anyone bothered by the sound, neither of us found nature’s symphony to be disturbing and slept well once we realized that it gets chilly at night as a result of the screened in front room which does not have windows. However, a warm comforter is provided so that once we were aware of the situation, there was no problem.

The unit is well maintained and supplied and Connie was attentive and friendly, meeting us with starfruit from her orchard, but once she got us settled was never intrusive.

The roads are a bit bumpy, but that adds to the feeling of seclusion and being off the beaten track. A perfect place for a true get away from the hotel scene, with easy access to Hilo, the Lava Tree State Park (free!), zip lining and volcano experience.

Simply Enchanting

  • 5 of 5

The Rainforest Hideaway is simply enchanting. There is a great big world to explore so we rarely return to a place we’ve visited. I’m not sure we can resist the pull to come back here... nor should we want to. The cottage is completely private and has pretty much anything you’d need. There are so many things to do in Pahoa and in the Puna district. We only spent 4 nights but wish it would have been for the full 7 that we visited the island. You can pack less too. Our luggage was lost on our flight there and we didn’t really need anything while awaiting it’s arrival.

We are located close to Volcanoes National Park and Kalapana where the active lava flows down the volcano and meets the ocean. This is one of the world's most active volcanoes and viewing is quite easy and accessable. The park is other worldly and the flows are fantastic. You can view by helicopter, boat, car or my favorite, on foot. Local guides available and recommended. Not to be missed, a real bucket list experience.
