My Tenants all say the Pictures and description don't do this fun ,Beautiful home justice and that it's much better than they expected. This vintage, victorian-style brick house has a vast history, but has also been completely restored in the last couple years. The structure of the home, along with some of the original elements (door handles, light fixtures, etc) provide a real sense of old world charm. These things contribute to the historic value of the once farmhouse, fitting in well with the Carver Historic District which the home is apart of. However, most elements (kitchens, bathrooms, etc) have been redone to give the house modern conveniences. Overall, the home is very spacious, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It is fully furnished. There is a bonfire pit and a gas grill in the fully landscaped backyard. It is also walking distance to the quaint downtown area of Carver.

About John Willard

John Willard bought this home in 2012. He was born and raised in Bloomington, Minnesota. He works in real estate and builds cabins on the north shore.

Why John Willard chose Carver

When I saw this house, I couldn't resist buying it. It is so rare to see the older homes built in this victorian style and also completely redone on the inside, it's a real treasure. Someone clearly took very good care of it for a long time.

What makes this house unique

The outside of the home is beautiful. The brick and the structure are gorgeous. Then you go inside and it's just as wonderful. The old wood floors, the stained glass windows, the front porch, the flowers and plant life in both the front and back yard all add to the appeal of the home.

Loved the spacious old Victorian home and historic neighborhood!

  • 4 of 5

John was very responsive to emails and questions. We loved having a family house for 8 adults attending a Chaska Outpost wedding with Carver Floral flowers. The kitchen was fabulous for a make-your-own-omelet leisurely breakfast and there was plenty of private space for TV, reading, and games at the large dining room table in the evening.

The two queen bedrooms were comfortable with the window air conditioners, but the two south side bedrooms (twins in one, and a double bed in the other) were uncomfortably warm, despite the fans, when daytime temps were in the 90's.

Overall we loved the house, the historic city, the walking trails, and friendly people. Thanks to John for renovating and sharing this beautiful home.

Much nicer and larger than we expected!

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing find for our yearly vacation. We found it was very easy get around to the Mall of America and ValleyFair. There are 4 good-sized bedrooms with very good mattresses and two roomy bathrooms upstairs. The kitchen is well-designed and there are plenty of places to sit and relax around the home. It was 98 the the last day we were there and we were smart about arranging fans and air conditioning to try to keep the house comfortable. We were gone most of the hottest part though, and it was unusually warm, so the temp went up in the late afternoon and came down again later. We didn't use the back yard much (hard a campfire just one night since it was so warm, but the kids wanted s'mores). It is terraced and not open space, but nicely landscaped. We did use the gas grill twice though and that was handy. All in all, John was very easy to work with, responsive to texts, and clear about check in and check out instructions.

Packed with history and charm

  • 5 of 5

We are newcomers to the area and began our home search from this Carver Victorian with the help of our host, John. This small town is full of friendly folks and businesses who value history and architecture and want to preserve that to share with others. Sitting on the Victorian’s wrap-around porch on Main Street, patronizing the businesses around town, and using the beautiful trail system between Carver and Chaska (and beyond) was a welcome respite from the stress of a move and a career change. John’s passion for the Carver house and town is evident and in a short time we came to appreciate the charm of both.

This vintage Victorian-style home has been completely restored and is located in the heart of historic Carver, Minnesota. It is short walking distance to the small downtown area of Carver which includes a nice restaurant, two bars, post office and a general store/gas station. It is driving distance to anything else that Minneapolis or the Southwest suburbs have to offer.
