Best location, 4 bedroom, new kitchen, spacious South Battery home and garden

Licensed B&B - We offer coffee and wine upon check-in but no meals are included in the stay. We also do not allow/tolerate events/venues as this is a wonderful and unique opportunity to enjoy being able to see Charleston more as a resident than a tourist and we expect proper respect to be given as such.

This is an authentic Charleston 'single-house' (c 1795) which means a Charleston house that is a single room in depth, designed to catch the ocean breezes. The builders of this property were in the shipping business and a wharf was built into the river to accommodate the owner's ships. Property taxes at that time were based on a front footage assessment and the typical single house was placed so that the narrow side of the house would be on the street side. This property was an exception in that the long side of the house faces South Battery which made it even more accessible to the prevailing summer southwest breezes. The two piazzas on the south side provide a dual purpose: to provide a comfortable place to enjoy the afternoon breeze and sunsets and to provide shade for the house itself from the afternoon sun.

On the main floor is an elegant dining room with beautiful hand made mahogany table, sideboard, and hunt-board. Just across the central hall is a less formal living room. It is furnished with comfortable upholstered sofa and chairs and accented with fine antiques including a mahogany chest, fold top desk, French farm table with 6 chairs and a magnificent highboy. The new kitchen with marble counters, lovely light filled windows on three sides, all new appliances and conveniences is accessed through two nine foot entrances from the living room. All of these rooms open onto the main floor piazza and offer wonderful opportunities for family fun and entertaining. A gracious central stairway leads from the piazza to the large and lovely Charleston garden.

The next floor houses the main bedrooms, baths and closets. The two large bedrooms with four poster mahogany King Bed in Master and Queen in Guest Room and adjoining bathrooms open onto the upper piazza overlooking the garden and Charleston Harbor.

The upper floor consists of two large dormer bedrooms with wonderful windows on the north and south sides. Between these rooms is a bath with a shower. All have windows providing a spectacular panoramic roof top view of the landscape below.

The garden is spacious and charming. The areas adjoining the house are terraced in old Charleston bricks and provide fabulous area for containers of flowering plants. The planting in the main garden is a balanced mixture of evergreens which provide shape, texture, and definition on a year round basis, and flowering shrubs and plants which provide a bouquet of color and scent as the seasons evolve. In the center of the front garden is a shallow reflecting pool with an Italian fountain. The fountain is automatically lighted at night and bathes the whole area with the ambiance of warm light and gurgling sounds. It is completely private from the street and fully enclosed and offers wonderful opportunities for entertaining or for children playing.

Very near prominent streets such as Church, Meeting, King and Legare Streets all are within very short walking distances to the property. White Point Gardens and the Harbor are within walking distance of the house. The house is in easy walking distance to the historic house museums, antique shops, art galleries, boutiques and famous restaurants.

We also advise during the month of September particularly, and some into October that you purchase the trip protection insurance due to that being the peak of hurricane season in our area. The optional trip insurance offered through VRBO would cover any weather related cancellation as we do not offer refunds or date changes due to weather. Also please note that when booking now or making payment we prefer "e" check as it is free for you and for us to use. If you choose the credit card option, then VRBO/HomeAway charges 2.9% on all monies run through Credit and that fee will be taken from your security deposit before return of the deposit since we do offer a free option. About Jamie Molony

We are a retired couple who raised our 3 children in this house. In 2001 we sailed our boat to Europe. We now spend part of the year on our boat in Europe and other part of the year in Charleston. We have so much space in our home that we enjoy offering some of the space for rent as a B&B (no breakfast).

Charleston Magic

We called this beautiful house on South Battery home for one week. It is very spacious, beautifully furnished, and exceedingly comfortable. The porches are huge and overlook a lovely large garden with glimpses of the Ashley River. It (and the city) far exceeded our expectations. Living in this beautiful home in this beautiful city and attending our son's wedding to a beautiful young woman will be a special memory forever,.

Beautiful home in an historic location

We visited Charleston with our family to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday.

We greatly enjoyed this home. We met the owner who gave us a thorough tour so we have no issues or questions of any kind.

The home is in excellent condition. We were extremely comfortable though the weather was hot and steamy. One evening it rained late in the afternoon but we were able still enjoy a wonderful happy hour sitting on the back porch.

The location is 1/2 block from the tip of the peninsula. During the day there are frequent tours in the area but at night the neighborhood is quiet and safe.

If you are looking for a high end rental we would strongly recommend this property.

Awesome! Amazing! Wonderful!

Our stay was fabulous! Everything is as stated and pictured. I highly recommend this property if you come to Charleston and I will certainly recommend to my friends and family. When I come back it will be my home away. There are no words to describe Charleston and our stay here just added to that wonderful experience.
