About Debbie & Ted Shaneour

We both spent our careers working for General Motors Aviation Section out of Detroit Metro Airport. We lived in Ann Arbor, MI for 27 years. Ted is a native Detroiter and Debbie is from Albion, MI. The Shaneour Family started coming here in the 1950's only to turn it into a place to retire. Ted knew he wanted to live here since he was a kid. We both have a passion for Northern Michigan and knew we wanted to retire here.

Debbie & Ted Shaneour purchased this cottage in 2011

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Brownlee Cottage has been a favorite getaway spot for us several times. Ted and Deb are wonderful hosts offering every amenity imaginable: fully equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, relaxing living room and, our favorite spot, the boathouse deck and fire pit. Although our week was chilly and rainy (May weather is very unpredictable) we enjoyed the cottage, went for walks, played Scrabble, read and cooked wonderful meals. We're sure to return, perhaps in the fall.

Owner's Response: John & Cindy have been the best guest to have. They have made Brownlee Cottage a special place to come back to each year. We enjoy our conversations with them and knowing that they love the cottage. Looking forward to having you in the fall.

The Most Perfect Cottage Ever

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect from the moment we walked in the door. It was the cleanest place we've ever stayed. We were there for our son's wedding so unfortunately we weren't able to spend much time there. We are planning on making a return trip in the future to take time to enjoy the place more. Thank you so much.

Hated to go home at the end of the week!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is the most perfect vacation home I have rented. Ted and Debbie are wonderful and the home was so cozy. You couldn't possibly run out of things to do in this area. We sat outside on the boat house roof and watched the Eagles and other birds, sunsets and boats going by on the lake, the beautiful stars. The box full of local travel information came in handy. We went to the sink holes that were listed in them. We drove to Lake Huron to watch the sunrise. The weather was so perfect almost every day. We spent time doing puzzles in between cooking and sightseeing. The hummingbirds entertained us every day! The neighborhood is so quiet. We slept with the windows open every night. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I want to go back soon!!

Cottage was so clean and had everything you need. Beautiful view from inside and out on boat house. Loved watching the eagles fly and we even caught some 17" bass from dock then released them. Owners were very nice and left us a wonderful welcome treats.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to have you back. Thanks for bailing out the paddle boat. We have never seen it rain in Lincoln like it did while you were here. Glad it didn't spoil your up north get away.

A Month at Brownlee Cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Everything about our vacation at Brownlee Cottage was special. From the moment we entered the Cottage the mood was set: it was perfect. The thoughtful décor is "Up North". The lake is steps away and the windows are wide and the views are stellar. The furnishings are plentiful and comfortable. Where you need a cozy chair... there it is. There is a wonderful little sun room facing the lake where we sat each morning with our coffee. There is a quiet road which runs along the lake in front of the house to take your morning walk. The little village of Lincoln is two minutes away and has everything you need: grocery, gas, restaurant, P.O., Laundromat. Being there for four weeks we did a fair amount of cooking. This kitchen is equipped with everything you will need and even better easy to find. Every place you might like to go is easy to access...Travers City, Petoskey, Mac City and/or the Island... easy to go, enjoy, return all in a day. We relaxed and stayed "home" a lot but we were on the go too. This is a very high recommend on our behalf for an Up North stay.
