About Richard Riggs
I grew up in Southeast Michigan near Ann Arbor and went to school at Michigan State. After a number of years away I returned to live in my family home, an 1873 farmhouse where my great grandfather cleared the land. I have enjoyed the updates and remodeling that comes with the vintage of the house, but mostly appreciate the park-like setting in the area.
Richard Riggs purchased this House in 2013
Why Richard Riggs chose South Haven
I have enjoyed many trips to the Lake Michigan beaches and enjoyed the serenity of the water, dunes and breezes. The ability to observe the sunsets over the water with feet in the sand and to hear waves come ashore is an especially relaxing moment. To do so in an area which is notable for blueberries and close to other great shore communities a short drive away was particularly appealing to me. I hope you will come to appreciate this environment, as well! There are seasonal events and activities to enjoy from festivals for film and blueberry lovers, as well as year-round benefits of hiking and biking.
What makes this House unique
The proximity to the beach and lighthouse was an attraction to the area, and this house offered a great open floor-plan which will allow people to stay engaged and appreciate time together. A bicycle store is around the corner if you wish to rent bikes for a trip around town or down the Kal Haven trail. There are unique shops in South Haven and a short drive takes you to the Saugatuck community for even more shopping with a creative, artistic emphasis.

Very nice! Great for a big group.
The house was nice and organized. Big and open, perfect for a big group.
The property is wonderful.
It was our 3rd stay at this home. Three sisters and 2 husbands. From Michigan and Cincinnati.
Everything you need is there...it is clean and comfortable and cozy and the neighbors
you never even see!
It is a lovely walk to Lake Michigan.
Except for the television not in working order our stay was wonderful.
Spacious, very clean, home. Our group of 8 adults enjoyed our stay.
Minutes from the Beach, Downtown, Restaurants, fishing.... all that South Haven has to offer. This home has plenty of room. Pretty cool floor plan— loved the South Haven, Great Lakes, Michigan motifs throughout the house. We did not have children staying with us but the train room would be awesome for kiddos.
Everything in the home is modern and well taken care of. Two large, full sized bathrooms met our needs. Owner is friendly and responds promptly to any need.
Hoping to stay here many more times!
Blueberries and beaches
This house is located across town from the beach but within walking distance. Excellent location for all the downtown activities but still in a quiet neighborhood. The house is very roomy. We had 12 people ranging from ages 6 to 76 and everyone had their special. We were a the beach everyday and enjoyed the walk and seeing South Haven. We were there during the blueberry festival so there was no lack of things to do. Excellent and enjoyable vacation
Great house and nice location
We rented the house for 9 people. House had plenty of room and was clean and neat. Enough room for all to sit around the large table and enjoy meals together
There were ample amenities and little extras. All beds were extremely comfortable. Location was close to all the downtown shops and a short walk to the beach. The only glitch was that the internet and cable tv would not work. Richard worked hard with the cable supplier (Comcast) to correct the problem but they couldn't correct without a service call and didn't have an open date until after we were gone. That being said, I still would highly recommend this property.
Clean and comfortable
10 minute walk to downtown. 25 minute walk to South beach with kids. Great Farmer's Market 8 minutes away. House was clean and roomy. Large kitchen table and solid chairs. Some cushions would have made them more comfortable. A couple extra frying pans would have been great. There is only one. We brought an electric griddle, a frying pan and a crockpot, so we were set. The outdoor grill was very hard to light. We loved the house, and enjoyed our stay.
The South Haven area is historic as a maritime center. It still offers boaters a great marina setting with docking just a short walk to downtown. The beach is beautiful with a new children's play area and lovely sunsets. There are a variety of recreational opportunities including nearby golf courses, and summer rentals for water sports. The Kal Haven linear State Park is a hiking and biking trail starting from the beach area and proceeding into rural SW Michigan. As a starting point for regional exploring this property is a mile from the highway allowing an interesting visit to the Saugatuck/Douglas and Holland areas.
