About Larry and Wendy Shrader

Lawrence and Wendy Shrader are the owners of Willow Lodge and Primrose Dale Farm. It is a working farm that not only produces corn, soybeans and grass hay but is also home to a variety of livestock including purebred Kinder goats, Berkshire Hogs, one Alpaca, one guard Llama, a flock of chickens and a bunch of waddling ducks.

Lawrence was born and raised in Littlestown and Wendy in Gettysburg so they are both native to Adams County. Both have a family background in farming.

Larry and Wendy Shrader purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Larry and Wendy Shrader chose York Springs

In 2006 and newly married, Lawrence and Wendy began searching for the farm of their dreams...one that was not too far off the beaten path but far enough to provide the tranquility and pastoral setting they were looking for. Their search ended in 2010 when a 52 acre farm with two houses went on the auction block. Lawrence and Wendy moved quickly and with one swift sound of a gavel, Primrose Dale was born.

By offering Willow Lodge as a guest cottage here on their farm, they hope to share with others the peace and tranquil beauty they found here in upper Adams County.

What makes this cottage unique

Sitting back off the main road, the private gravel lane leads to a farm house and guest cottage. An abundance of wildlife can be spotted from Willow Lodge. It is not a rare occurrence to see a buck or a doe with her fawn grazing at the edge of the woods. The sound of a woodpecker, or a dove; an occasional 'hoot' of an owl is typical. The quiet beauty and the privacy of the location is unsurpassed….a serene place to rest, relax and renew.

Perfect family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our family get together at Willow Lodge. The lodge was immaculate, cozy and just what we were looking for. The weather was spectacular so we got to enjoy sitting in the evenings around the fire pit and cooked out on the charcoal grill. The hosts were very accommodating and gave us a tour of their farm. We were close to Gettysburg so during the day time we took an audio tour of the battlegrounds and enjoyed lunch downtown. I

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Willow Lodge. The fire was very relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. Would have been better if firewood was provided. House was very clean.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the relaxing campfires at night. Providing firewood would be something we would certainly consider in the future as a convenience for our guests. However, we would either have to increase our low nightly rate or charge an additional fee in order to cover the cost of the firewood. Our goal is always to provide our guests with a clean, comfortable place to stay that is budget friendly and includes as many desired amenities as possible at this price point. We will continue monitoring future guest feedback in this area and make the necessary adjustments based on guest preferences..convenience versus cost. Thank you again for choosing Willow Lodge and we look forward to having you back again in the future should your travel plans permit.

Perfect accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Wendy and Larry's Willow Lodge while attending the Corvettes@Carlisle weekend. We found it to be very comfortable and clean. Although we did not have the opportunity to spend much time on the grounds the surroundings are beautiful. Hope to be able to return.
