Great place to get away from it all!
Perfect location for a relaxing getaway. Beautiful scenery and plenty of peace and quiet. The house was cozy and well maintained and the property owners couldn’t have been nicer. Will definitely be booking another trip here soon.
All good experience
Very clean and comfortable.
The gates in the paddocks could have more secure closures and a more appropriate wheelbarrow for manure removal would be an improvement.
Such a warm, relaxing property with everything you need in a home away from home.
The cottage is a dream. Comfortable furniture, fireplace, high end kitchen, to die for master bathroom. The owner is very accommodating to dog parents, so please, please live up to this trust if you bring your dogs!!! I would have awarded this property 5 stars, but for horse people, the pasture and run-in configuration is not optimal. The fencing is great. The gates, not so much. If you use the gates to make the run-in into stalls there is no fencing connecting the “stalls” to the pasture, leaving it open if a horse spooked or is a “Houdini” and breaks through the bungi cord secured gate. In other words, don’t put your horses up in the stalls unless they are bulletproof when staying in an unfamiliar place. Also, while the website gave detailed instructions for cleaning the run-in/stalls. It did not say that the renter had to pick manure out of the padsture. This is not an easy task with a wheelbarrow and pick when the ground is dry, but next to ridiculous when it rained and snowed prior to your stay. This stipulation should be stated up front, not told to you by the manager after you have “moved in”. That said, the price of $30.00 per horse per stay is very reasonable.
The house was perfect for our family, exactly as described. The kitchen and bathrooms were stocked, beds were comfy (even the futon) and everything was clean! Even in the middle of nowhere, the WiFi works great.
The property itself was really nice - lots of room to run around, had a great fire pit (wood was there too) and a deck with a grill. Unfortunately the weather was horrible for us, so we couldn’t take advantage of either.
The house must be on a time zone line, cause the kids just loved the fact that, as they walked through the house, the time changed.
Just plan ahead, as it is a good drive to get anywhere.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. Sorry to hear the weather did not cooperate with your plans. We’ve had that happen to us which is why we put in that beautiful fireplace. A lovely place to curl up on the couch and catch up on some reading. Sounds like you enjoyed it as much as we do!
Lovely holiday vacation
My husband and I had a wonderful vacation over the holidays this year at Big South Fork. We brought my dog and two horses and had terrific accommodations for all. My grown kids visited some over the time we were there and we had a blast. The house is absolutely beautiful and the kitchen is fully stocked. We have stayed at many VRBO rentals in lots of different locations over the years but this house wins for having the best stocked kitchen. I always bring some things just in case because we cook a lot while we vacation but this time, I didn't really need to.
The hiking in the area is wonderful and Jamestown is close enough to easily stock up on groceries. The weather was cold and icy while we were though so I wasn't able to do as much riding as I would have liked. When I was able to access the trails from the subdivision, I had a fantastic ride. You will need hoof protection for your horses. The neighbors are all extremely friendly and we found that true for everyone in the area that we came across. We are considering a longer stay in the area to really check it out to see if we'd like to move here.
If you have AT&T you will not get a signal except up at the main gate, but mostly won't get one for anywhere in the Jamestown/Allardt area. We made do since we could get Wifi at the house. Plus we got a long distance calling card to use on the land line there.
The owner was quick to respond and answer questions and the property manager, Kim, was wonderful to work with. Thanks to both the owners and the manager for a lovely lovely stay. I highly recommend this home for a stay at BSF.
A week was not long enough to enjoy all the beauty and attractions of the Big South Fork. Well appointed and cozy clean home. Nice area for your horses too. No satellite but I do not like regular tv any way. I binge watch my favs at night. I WILL be back.
