About Your Host
As your host, my dearest wish is for you to enjoy your stay and feel at home in your houseboat.
Why Your Host chose Nieuwmarkt en Lastage
To live in a houseboat in the 'Old Center' of Amsterdam but in the residential part : 'East side'. Why Live In A houseboat ? : I understood that a flat is too noisy, as the walls are too thin with buildings on pilotis in Amsterdam. A barge is too steep-sided.
What makes this House Boat unique
You are tucked away on your own island in the middle of town. Your houseboat is not merely an impersonal and soulless rental property, as I prefer to welcome my friends and guests in a friendly spirit rather than dealing with business customers.

We had a wonderful time in the houseboat. Joris and Lionel were very responsive and accommodating. The houseboat is charming- great decor, very comfortable bed, swans and ducks swimming up to the windows. The location is perfect- close to many shop, restaurants, cafes and bars, but still quiet at night. We highly recommend staying here!
Living like a local
This was a wonderful place to stay for us. I had visited Amsterdam extensively in the 1970s and I felt that same Free-spirited vibe staying here. The boat was comfortable and quite Bohemian. If you're used to luxury accommodations, this may not be the place for you. But if you want a very convenient, unique and" Dutch" experience – this would be perfect! Lionel the owner, was quite helpful and we considered this much better than a typical hotel room. It's perfectly located and wonderful to return to after a day touring Amsterdam. The shower needs a little work, but other than that, the boat is quite comfortable. we would certainly recommend it! E
Quirky, centrally located houseboat.
Perfectly suited to a couple. Everything you could wish for and when shower mal functioned host rapidly advised how to fix it. It was a truly wonderful experience feeding the family of 6 swans from the bedroom window!! Super location a few 100 m from the weigh house and red light district and right beside Waterloo flea market. But the street and canal are quiet and when you close that boat door behind you you are immediately cocooned in your own private space, with the world and its worries disappeared!!! (The lighting is rather subdued so maybe bring a head torch!!!)
We had a lovely and cozy stay. In fact we had dinner on the boat one night. I would recommend a rickshaw from central train station upon arriving if you aren’t familiar with Amsterdam. The canals can be confusing upon first glance. However, after one day of navigating, the houseboat is very centrally located and easy to find and you will love it’s proximity to restaurants and such. It is definitely a great experience. Thx
There were many things we loved about the houseboat. It’s location, comfortable bed and ambience. That being said, there were some things that we wished were more updated. The lighting was dim , the furniture was worn and in excess, which made it difficult to find a spot for our luggage . With some general updating and kitchen clean out this place would be amazing.
Glad to read that you, Louise, much appreciated the location, comfortable bed and ambience. That being written, there are some things that I wish are updated. The lighting is very generous with 4 lights in the bedroom, 10 in the living room, 4 (with more 10 lamps) in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. Moreover, there are 6 wide antique mirrors in the houseboat broadly transmitting outside light with the 7 wide windows or inside light with the 18 lights. Like the 6 mirrors, the furniture is antique without chemical pollution instead of new chipboard furniture (glue based). Like you, I also live in the boat and love comfort. It is not a boat entirely dedicated to renting.
Now if you have not found all the lights, easily a spot for your luggage or kitchen clean, you as soon could contact me like it is written in all my messages and as the first : "do not hesitate to contact me if you need and it will be a great pleasure to reply and to support you"
I did not understand why did you have to wait for after your stay for to make a request in a review ? Like you know and I wrote it you in my messages and to my guests, I am for my guests and was for you fully at your disposal before, for and after your stay, 24/7 with a very short reply or moving time. It was during your stay that I could reply to your expectation. I could come in your absence or not according your visit schedule and your wish for to support you in the houseboat. For the stay of my guests, I am in Amsterdam and available, not very far. With this updating, this place becomes amazing.
A perfect weekend in a perfect location. As my husband said, “the only way to stay in Amsterdam is on a houseboat.” Loved it
Thank you Elizabeth for your stay and review. It was a great pleasure to welcome to two of you and same again to welcome to two of you for your next vacation in Amsterdam.
You will appreciate being located in the historical area of Nieuwmarkt with its great sightseeing spots. The houseboat is just 5 minutes walking distance from Central Station or 50 meters from the metro station 'Nieuwmarkt,' the first station after Central Station with all lines: 51, 54 and 53.
1 minute walking distance from 5 Supermarkets (open 7 days - from 8 to 22), bicycle rental (open 7 days - from 9 to 17:45), the Flea Market, Museums (Rembrandt House, Hermitage, Joods Historisch, Willet-Holthuysen and Allard Pierson) and the Dutch Royal Opera.
Many great sightseeing spots and 12 restaurants are within 200 meters.
