About this property

A traditional farmhouse vibe! Modern living with a rustic twist. For lovers of the great outdoors!

PERFECT for family groups or two to three couples seeking the peace and tranquillity of village life, with forest, hillside and riverside walks from the doorstep.

RELAX in a centuries-old, traditional farm house, that oozes character. With the added benefit of having the top facilities of Slovenia’s premier tourist destinations within easy reach!

This house is in a quiet village setting and is therefore not suitable for noisy groups. It is best for families or respectful adults who enjoy forest and hillside walls from the doorstep, wild swimming in the nearby lakes, or simply relaxing in the garden and taking in the magnificent mountain backdrop.

The owners will not be at the house during guest stays.
The Alpine Retreat is sited in a well serviced village, with shop and restaurant / bar. Located beside the church at the heart of the old farming village of Zasip, you will feel at the centre of village comings and goings.

Sat on a ridge with commanding southerly views, and Bled Castle in clear view, you are just a few kilometres from Lake Bled, with all its tourist facilities, yet being in Zasip, on the doorstep of some wonderful countryside, you feel more in touch with the local way of life.

There are some amazing walks nearby, including a circuit to Vintgar Gorge, which is within easy striding distance of the doorstep.
With the exception of the basement boiler room and secure store rooms, guests will have access to the whole house.
The Alpine Retreat is both our second home and a professionally managed holiday rental apartment. For you this means that you can expect to find everything you need for a comfortable stay with the reassurance that help is close at hand should the need arise.
Although there are bus and train services from the village the use of a car, to explore the area's wonders, is recommended.

Surprised
The property was located directly across the street from the barn, which was, unfortunately experiencing VERY strong odor.(liquid manure?) I grew up on a dairy farm and this was something out of the ordinary.

Nice house with a mouse
We stayed a few days in Stuarts house. It is located in Zasip, which is very close to Bled. Before we arrived Stuart gave us a lot of information about the area und the house, which was perfect. When we arrived the house smelt a little, but after opening the windows it was ok. The bathroom on the ground floor was a little older, but the one on the first floor was new and modern. The bedrooms were ok. We didn't have any problems with the cows next door or the church bell. But unfortunately we did have a problem with a mouse, which we found in the kitchen on the fridge between our groceries. For us this was a no-go!

About the host

As a structural enginer I have always wanted to either build my own house or do a full-on renovation. When my daughter was born I realised that my available time and cash could both only shrink and that it was now or never!

As soon as I saw Lake Bled and had explored the local area I knew that it had to be now! With spectacular scenery, an understatedly classy feel and outdoor adventures all year round, I knew I would want to keep coming back. On top of that the food was good, the beer cold and the people warm.

With my daughter now 17 years old we have found the area to be great for both young children and teenagers. There are lots of short yet beautiful walks to do in summer, paddling with the fish is unforgettable and in winter the smaller nearby low-level ski slopes are ideal for starting out or having the thrill of a toboggan ride without the need to spend a full day in the mountains. The local pools have great baby areas with warmer water and toys provided. What more could you ask for. Oh yes, Spring is glorious with an explosion of mountain flowers and and kicking through heaps of dry aurtumn leaves is always a wonderful experience.

Why they chose this property

The Alpine Retreat, named by a friend, was the first property I viewed and I immediately saw that it offered me a great opportunity to indulge in my own 'Grand Design'.. Looking beyond its run down condition, I instantly knew the house was special for reasons beyond its age, charm and wonderful location. My neighbours were immediately welcoming, and it is always a pleasure to catch up when I manage to take a holiday myself, but I am sure they thought I was mad for buying such a rundown place. However, after five years of incremental and some quite major works, the interior has been transformed, and I can at last enjoy the house for what it has become. The original rooms have been upgraded whilst maintaining their character and the upstairs area, once open for storing crops, now houses two bedrooms, a bathroom and new windows that have opened up some spectacular views.

What makes this property unique

I bought the house and undertook the refurbishment with the intention of creating a family holiday home and really only considered renting to holiday-makers after all the hard work was done. So, with all the fittings, fixtures and furnishings, it really is a home from home for all to enjoy.
The warm notes from our guests, of thanks and appreciation of the house and the area, have made sharing our house a pleasure, something I think shows in our personal approach.
We are a family that likes to explore and, remarkably even after years of visiting, we are still discovering new places. Many of our favourites are included in the house folder so our guests can get straight to the local top spots.
