We enjoyed staying in the cottage. It had a beautiful view and was a very quiet neighborhood.

Peaceful retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved the cottage and the location. The views were beautiful and we really felt like we were away from it all each time we crossed over the bridge. We enjoyed watching the birds daily and even saw dolphins swimming close by on several of the days we were there. The cottage had everything we needed for a home away from home and the decor was just perfect for the location. It is also close to all of the historical sites which made each day trip easy. There is so much to do in the surrounding areas. We would definitely stay again if given the opportunity!

private with great views

  • 5 of 5

This is the kind of house we are looking to retire to. It was our first experience with VRBO and everything went smoothly. The house is comfortable, modern and away from crowds (very important to us!). The wildlife was obliging from the ospreys and egrets to the little crabs who live under the shed. Beautiful sunsets - you will not be disappointed. Convenient to all Williamsburg attractions. Note: there are mosquitoes so come prepared in the summer! We hope to do this again some day.

Peaceful comfortable home with its own island wildlife accessible to lots of attractions

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 10 days at the Island Cottage. The house is private, spotlessly clean & furnished to a high standard. Visiting from Scotland, we were grateful that our charming hosts were very efficient in dealing with the few email and one practical queries we had. Carmine's Island is rich in wildlife and very peaceful with stunning views - we were especially taken with the ospreys, the bald eagles, the blue as well as the green herons, the cardinals, the mockingbirds and the hummingbirds not to mention the swallowtails, turtles and mink. We had many interesting visits including the Eastern Shore, the American Revolutionary Museum, the Living Museum, the Aquarium & Virginia Beach, Busch Gardens, Water Country, the USS Wisconsin & Colonial Williamsburg. All very interesting. We also hired a motor boat and tube to enjoy the water & explore the coastline which was great fun. We would also rcommend some great restaurants: I Hop, Texas Roadhouse, Juan's, the Shanty on the Eastern Shore, Harpoon Larry's Oyster Bar and the Country Grill & Steakhouse. We would love to return!

Excellent Escape

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year at the cottage and we are already looking forward to the third visit! Nine nights still not enough! Loved the back porch for early morning coffee, watching the sky brighten to start the day, and the front porch for evening tea and gorgeous sunsets! There is no shortage of wildlife to keep you entertained! Be sure to bring your camera! The only problem is that it is hard to decide what NOT to take a picture of!! The inside of the cottage is quaint and cozy but not short on space. Lots of windows to keep it bright and to enjoy the beautiful river views. Tastefully decorated and impeccably clean. Fully equipped kitchen made mealtime easy. The owners are a pleasure to deal with and were very "forgiving" when an email address error caused a lengthy delay in them receiving the second payment. You will not be disappointed with this property. My only concern is that it will become more popular and possibly not available when I need it next. 😉?

Donna and Mike, thanks again for a wonderful stay. Looking forward to visiting your little paradise again next year.

The Ottawa girls

P.S. Your "welcome" treats were well received and appreciated. Very thoughtful.

Our island cottage is located on a privately owned 15 acre island in the York River. The cottage is only 2 miles from all convenient amenities but you are in your own quiet, secluded waterfront setting with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. The island is less than 15 minutes to historic Yorktown's Riverwalk shopping and beach community. Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, Busch Gardens and Water Country USA are only 20 minutes via the Colonial Parkway. This is one of the most gorgeous, tranquil scenic drives in America.
