5 bedroom villa at the Caribbean sea
About Petra Spelter
We are a European family with 3 kids and love inviting even more family and sharing with friends our vacation in our magic Caribbean home. Purchasing this home we were not looking for a vacation-rental-place, but for a home that makes us feel at home. We are active divers and also love to snorkel. We looked a long time for a home with direct sea access and diving facilities close. We are very family minded and were looking for a home that not only had enough space for ourselves, but also has the opportunity to invite additional family and friends. We were looking for a European-Style and European-Quality construction near the sea. Your contact, Petra, is a very nice Dutch host who not only knows Curaçao for years, but is always available during your stay just in case you need help and orientation, starting from details concerning the home up to recommendation and organizing a private dinner with a chef on the beautiful terrace towards the sea of this home. The combination of this home and Petra makes every stay a perfect moment to relax.
Petra Spelter purchased this Villa in 2012
Why Petra Spelter chose Boka Samí
Our family loves the Caribbean, loves the sea in all its versions from enjoying a perfect sunset view up to snorkeling and diving. We are a family with kids and love being at openly built places enjoying tropical weather and facilities. Our family loves sharing and inviting friends and spend quality time together. We felt in love with Curaçao; it has the best of both worlds, Caribbean with a European/Dutch flavor. The beautiful, warm, friendly people inspired us to make this place our home. We love to be integrated within a regular neighborhood and local lifestyle rather than staying at a resort. Therefore the area of Boka Sami (nick named the “gold coast” by its neighbours) was our favorite place. Basically an old fashioned fisherman-village still within the city of Willemstad, close to supermarkets, restaurants, etc.. but with its own relaxed, not resort like local mentality and divers facilities just right next door. We found this unique oceanfront villa with its breathtaking panoramic and its great story in 2012. A Dutch couple bought in 2009 this beautiful place and built a completely new home for themselves in order to live for the next 20 years and retire at this magic spot. They lived and enjoyed the place until they had to leave the island unexpectedly in 2012 for personal reasons. It was not just the quality of construction, but also the way of how the house was built to live near the sea with a terrace above it, that attracted us. The peaceful and relaxing spirit of the home itself is amazing. We made this home ourselves, overtook a place where this couple enjoyed living during years and we try to keep up the spirit of a real home, rather than a vacation rental place, since we spend a lot of time in this place ourselves each year. This home is close to the best beaches, close to Willemstad, not in a resort but in a local neighborhood, is perfect for people who love the sea, love diving and snorkeling and it is made to enjoy with kids and/or bigger groups
What makes this Villa unique
Our Home is not the typical vacation rental. It used to be a primary home for a Dutch couple who built this place from scratch, in order to live at this home and invite family and friends over from Europe to stay. Together with your host Petra we keep the spirit of a primary ocean front home with direct access to the sea alive. The location of the home is very unique; anyone visiting the home just falls in love with it – it is a quiet real local neighborhood and not a resort. The views of the ocean are breathtaking at all times of the year. Star-filled nights or a full moon shining across the ocean. Even from the kitchen window you can see dolphins swim by. Go midnight snorkeling from your own private stairs to the sea or just sit at the magic table of the terrace enjoying the sun and its incredible sunsets. This terrace table-place is the place we like best of this home – sharing, cooking, having a nice wine or sundowner or even enjoying a private dinner with you own private chef organized by Petra.

Great vacation house!
My family of 5, including 3 young children, stayed for a week in July. The home is amazing, the views from a postcard, and the island a secret treasure. We loved the home and cant wait to go back.
Beautiful home. Well equipped.
BEST Best friend vacation!!
My best friend and I rented this for a week and absolutely LOVED it. Property is as advertised. Petra was phenomenal with communication and check in. I cannot even begin to describe the view - breathtaking. Every night we watched the sunset and it was never the same twice, always gorgeous and so colorful. Snorkeling and swimming in front of the property was great, water was a bit choppy but didn’t bother us at all. The house has a great breeze through it when it’s all opened. A lot of birds are around in the trees on the property and we even had an iguana in the driveway one day
ADVICE: take good bug spray! They mosquitos are not outrageous but they definite come out at night and with it being an open air property bug spray is definitely needed. There was some on site when we arrived and we brought some as well - I still had a few bites.
Overall 5 star property hands down. As two younger women renting this alone we felt completely safe on this island and in this neighborhood.
Best Caribbean trip I have yet to experience.
A great house for feeling connected with the sea
We stayed at this house for 9 nights in June with a total of 8 people. As anyone can see from the pictures, the location of the property directly on the water is amazing and what makes this property such a fabulous choice. As much as we loved snorkeling at various beaches around the island, coming home in the early evenings was probably our favorite part of each day. We loved the open-air living style but it can get a bit warm in the middle of the day so we preferred to be out at this time. But by 4 pm as the sun was getting lower in the sky, the temperature would cool off nicely and with the breeze it really was just the perfect spot to be. Cooking dinner in the kitchen with all the windows open and watching the color of the sky change to an orange glow above the blue waters.... this I will never forget.
As far as the best spots to snorkel (because that's why you come to Curacao!), our favorite was Cas Abou (we felt like we were in an aquarium), followed by Lagun (smaller beach here) and Porto Marie. If you can avoid focusing on the trash at the Boka Sami beach just a few minutes walk from the house, there is actually some very good snorkeling here too (quite a variety of fish and very plentiful sealife). The nice thing about the paid beaches is that they are clear of trash and as long as you get there on the earlier side, you can find a shady spot. We snorkeled right at the house as well... the ease of hopping in whenever you like is nice but the waters were a bit choppy most days which diminished clarity.
We were all very pleased with this property and the feeling of being so connected to the sea (loved sitting on the net late at night) was soothing for the soul.
Petra greeted us as we arrived at the most beautiful house right on the water. The location and amenities could have not have been more perfect. Having he space for 10 of us to spread out was amazing and we never felt crowded. We loved having the ocean right in our yard and used it daily. The location is close enough Willemstad and the stores so we never had too far of a drive at any one Point to get anywhere on the island. Even our drive to Wespunt and mount christophal was only about 40 minutes.
We would definitely come back and stay here again.
Gorgeous Ocean Front Property
This is our second dive trip to Curacao and this neighborhood. If you are looking for a resort atmosphere with beaches, umbrella drinks and on site restaurants, this is not it. There is nothing to do or buy within walking distance (unless you go to the local dive shop). If you are looking to escape the world and relax this is the perfect destination! We loved everything about it! The water was beautiful, warm and clear with plenty of fish everywhere. I refer to it as swimming and diving in an aquarium. The house was great... definitely "open concept". We pretty much lived on the patio which opens up to the ocean below. The landing above the ocean was great for gearing up to dive and rinsing off after a swim. The house was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The WiFi worked great and my TMobile cell worked (unfortunately). Petra was terrific to work with and very responsive. Thank you for a great get away! We plan to go back soon!
As you are only a minute away from Sint Michiel, you find one of the oldest scuba dive schools. The founder of this scuba school even met Jacques Cousteau, the french marine biologist and explorer of the late sixties. For scuba diving this is the place to be. Guided tours, even night dives and rental of equipment available close by. Several nice restaurants are in the neighbourhood. Public transport is available however, own transport is advised. Sint Michiel is rather in the center of Curaçao, therefore all bays, leisure activities and Willemstad are in reach. Sint Michiel itself is an old fisherman's place and still active as such. If you like fresh sea food just check the catch of the day. Further, one can still visit the remains of an old Dutch defense post near the harbor.
The place is very relaxed, and very traditional. For visitors who like their privacy and like a holiday in an extra-ordinary place, this is place to be.
