About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Huge Deck, Modern Kitchen Surrounded By Towering Forests

Cherry Lake Lodge is a newly renovated historic woodland cabin with all the comforts of home. This unique retreat has its’ origins as lodging and work station for researchers when Morgan Monroe State Forest was part of the Northeast Forest Experimental Station in the 1930’s.

The lodge’s large elevated back deck overlooks acres of natural beauty- a great escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Watch for deer, wild turkey and forest wildlife as you relax on the expansive deck and enjoy the comfort of your own woodland retreat.

The nearby 3 Lakes Trail and Mason Ridge Trail offers 10 and 3 mile hiking opportunities. The 4 acre Cherry Lake is a short stroll away and a great spot for a picnic or throwing out a fishing line from the gentle, manicured shoreline.

Cherry Lake Lodge was completely renovated in 2013. It features 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms (including the master bath) and a pull out sleeper sofa in the great room. Maximum overnight capacity of the lodge is 6.

The improved floor plan features a new kitchen, adjoining dining area, great room with fireplace and wide deck across the entire back of the house overlooking the surrounding woods.

Only 45 miles from Indianapolis, 30 minutes from Bloomington and 2 hours from Louisville. Cherry Lake Lodge is an ideal location and 1-of-a-kind get away for small retreats and families.

About Jim Allen

Morgan-Monroe State Forest had its beginning in 1929 as an Experimental Forest. Research and active forest management is still part of this State Forest. Today visitors can enjoy Cherry Lake Lodge, the restored and fully updated 1930’s research station. The 2 bedroom modern cabin is nestled down a quiet forest lane near the State Forest office. State Forests are great places to visit and we are pleased to be able to offer this unique experience to the people of Indiana and those visiting our State.

Jim Allen purchased this lodge in 1929

Why Jim Allen chose Indiana

In 2011 we embarked on a project to make unique forest retreat homes available to families and small groups who might enjoy the deep forest experience as much as we do. Cherry Lake Lodge is the second project we have completed. The first lodge is Covered Bridge Retreat located in Parke County, Indiana and nestled in 300 acres of State Forest. Covered Bridge even has its own campground and equestrian facilities for hosting large groups. We knew Cherry Lake Lodge was something special and with care we added an extra bedroom, bathroom and fully updated the cabin with modern amenities. Our staff live nearby and are accessible in case of emergency.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This is not just a cabin in the woods....it's a beautiful home. It was very very clean. The ice machine is a nice touch. The creek running through the yard was the perfect size for exploring! Me and my family had a wonderful time, and will be back again.

Peace and Serenity in a Luxury, Historic Lodge

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at the Cherry Lake Lodge, and neither stay disappointed. The historic cabin has been updated and remodeled beautifully, yet kept the most unique and beautiful aspect of the former forest ranger station, the stunning limestone wall and fireplace.

With two bedrooms and two baths as well as a sofa sleeper, there is plenty of room for the family. The entire lodge has beautiful wood floors and stone tile in the kitchen and baths. Each piece of furniture throughout the cabin (from the grand dining table and chairs to the tree floor lamps and the fantastic beds) the decor makes the lodge warm, welcoming a comfortable.

The kitchen is to die for! A partial limestone wall accents the granite counter tops, roomy island with chairs, full sized windows to watch nature and all of the top notch appliances. You have everything you need provided to you....cookware, knives, barbeque utensils, toaster, coffee maker, ice maker, dishwasher, blender, dishes, glasses, wine glasses and more. The photos truly do not give this property justice!

The wrap around deck with ample seating and a gas grill can be enjoyed through the double French doors off the dining room or the master bedroom. You are surrounded by forest and nestled between two tall ridges. The peace and serenity of the area is intoxicating and you will never want to leave!

The biggest pluses, aside from what I have already mentioned are the two car garage, an ample supply of firewood for the fireplace and fire ring outdoors, 3 lakes trail right outside the property gate and Cherry Lake at the end of the gate and across the street. The state of the art front loading washer and dryer make extended stays very easy and the shower and soaker tub are divine. The lodge also has a water filtration system, so whether bathing or drinking, the water is soft, pure and tastes great. And I cannot say enough about the crisp, white linens and towels which are plentiful!

The only downs (which aren't a huge deal breaker for me) The beds sit high, so if you're petite, you may need a little boost and the mattresses, which are clean and high quality, are very firm. However, the leather sofa in the living room is so soft, supple and comfy, you will find yourself dozing off! Since the lodge is sitting in a hollow, television reception is spotty at best, internet is not available AT ALL and if you get a cell signal, you;re having a great day! But the whole idea of this beautiful property is to get away from it all

A beautiful retreat ...Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful retreat ...well maintained, well equipped and highly recommended. The owners/caretakers were very quick to respond to any queries that we had. Loved how peaceful it was...especially nestled in the woods, surrounded by snow. Would love to revisit it in the Summer or Fall!

Quite weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

We took a weekend away for Mother's Day and had a lovely time staying in the forest lodge. The cabin is beautifully decorated and amply stocked. We enjoyed the solitude, the beautiful views, and the easy access to nearby walking trails. We will absolutely return in the near future!
