About Todd & Peggy Allen

Savage Hart Farm’s owner/operators – Peggy and Todd Allen – share a vision to turn a beautiful post and beam 4-bedroom home on 32 acres into a working farm with a vacation rental apartment. We moved onto the farm in July of 2012, and only a month later we were joined by our “starter” flock consisting mostly of colored Corriedale sheep. By October, we had built a small barn and installed about 4000 feet of permanent fencing to get us through our first winter. With 25 acres of grass, the sheep have plenty of room to grow. Spring 2013 we had five lambs join our flock! And in June, the yarn from their fleece arrived!

Todd & Peggy Allen purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Todd & Peggy Allen chose Vermont

This is a quintessential Vermont setting with all the modern amenities and just minutes away from several of towns, and dozens of activities and outdoor fun.

What makes this apartment unique

You know it's special when the local folks come visit and say, 'I had no idea there was a view like this!'

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just returned home from more than 3 weeks at this indescribably beautiful, perfect spot. If you're reading this and trying to decide whether to book a stay here: Stop reading right now and go book it before someone else does!! OK, now that you've done that, get ready for a very memorable visit to Vermont. The scenery is spectacular and the sheep are adorable. Everything you could need is a short drive away. Hiking trails are a short walk. Peggy and Todd, you're the best hosts ever!! Thanks again for all the help and advice during our stay. We'll see you again!

Beautiful spacious apartment

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I loved staying at Savage Hart Farm! The location is beautiful and the apartment was extremely clean, quiet, and spacious. The apartment was also well appointed and we enjoyed the board games! Peggy and Todd were very gracious hosts who told us about their sheep and the farm. It was a great location for visiting various places like Woodstock and Hanover, and taking a class at King Arthur Flour!

Even better in person

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed here for two nights at the end of September. It was even better than the pictures and descriptions. The apartment is just the right size and has everything one would need during the visit. There is a great shower, which can sometimes be an issue. The view is amazing and sitting out in the evening, looking at the stars was so calming and peaceful. Peggy and Todd were accommodating and friendly. Trust their recommendations regarding restaurants. Our one regret was that we didn't really get to meet the sheep, totally our fault. I plan to visit again. I highly recommend Savage Hart Farm.

Amazing views, friendly sheep, playful dog, a perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

There isn't much, if anything, I can say that is negative about Savage Hart Farm. My sister and I were looking for a weekend getaway to watch General Conference. We happened upon the Savage Hart Farm, a little sheep farm in Vermont. Neither of us had been to Vermont before (I just recently moved to Boston from Seattle and my sister is visiting from California), so we had no idea what to expect. I'll try to summarize the experience:

1. Amazing views - The photos just don't do it justice. I could have just sat and stared at the views all weekend and been perfectly happy. Gorgeous!

2. Quiet - The first night we were there, I took Hank, the dog, out to go potty and I could not believe how quiet it was. No white noise at all. It was heaven.

3. Dog friendly - Peg and Todd have a playful dog named Jack who fell in love with Hank the minute we arrived. They played and played and ran and ran. So fun to watch.

4. Peg and Todd - These two could not have been more gracious hosts. They took the time to recommend places for us to go see and delicious restaurants. We had a ton of questions for them about their little farm and they were so willing to provide us all the answers we were looking for.

5. Friendly sheep - Peg took us to meet the sheep on our last day. I don't know what I was expecting but certainly not to become mad friends with one of them. So stinking cute.

6. Spotless accommodation - the 1 bedroom apartment was spotless. And by spotless, I mean s.p.o.t.l.e.s.s. Usually when you stay at a place that is "dog friendly", there are remnants of the previous tenants fur babies. Not in this place.

7. Everything you need - The bed was super comfortable and the kitchen was fully stalked with evreything you'd need should you decide to cook in. There is even a BBQ grill and a washer and dryer. The freezer also has an ice maker.

8. Clean tap water - okay, this one is going to sound weird, but the tap water was clean and pure. I've stayed in a lot of different places over the years and the taste of the tap water is always hit and miss. I usually end up buying a bunch of bottled water as a result. This tap water tasted like spring water, no after taste or weirdness at all. Even the ice from the ice maker was good. Some may think this dumb, but good drinking water is a huge plus for me and it saved us a ton of money on bottled water.

I'll stop there. Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.

Owner's Response: Linda, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts on your stay and for all the kind words. It was a pleasuring meeting you and your sister and perhaps one day, you'll take the farm plunge! In the meantime, you know you are welcome back any time. Best, Peg

So relaxing and close to it all!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful stay, could of stayed forever if Todd and Pegg were willing to adopt me. Stayed here while I took classes at King Arthur Flour and it was perfect. Biked, hiked the AT, visited State Parks and Woodstock. Amazing, we will be back!

Beautiful spot!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at the Savage Hart Farm in May. The farm is located close to many of the area's attractions, so you get the peaceful and idyllic farm setting without sacrificing convenience. Seeing the sheep was a real treat for our daughter (and for us), and the apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay.
