About this property

Cozy Guest House on the Road to Yellowstone

The Wapiti Bear Den is the perfect place to get away from it all. Situated on 4 private acres, we're surrounded by the soaring Absaroka mountains and the quiet of nature. The Bear Den is located in beautiful Wapiti, Wyoming, just 30 minutes from the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and 20 minutes from Cody, Wyoming. This spacious one bedroom guest house was newly remodeled in 2018 with rustic western decor and includes air conditioning, a full bath, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living room with a queen size sleeper sofa.

After a day of exploring, you can kick back on your own patio and enjoy the mountain views and wide open spaces. If cooking is your passion, prepare dinners on the outdoor grill or in the Bear Den's full kitchen. Wireless internet, DirecTV, a DVD player/DVD library and a collection of books, are also provided during your stay. During hot summer days, turn up the AC to keep cool and comfortable. The Wapiti Bear Den has all the comforts of home plus Yellowstone country right out your front door.

Our location between Cody, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park makes the Bear Den the ideal home base to explore the area. The road west to Yellowstone's East Entrance travels through a wide canyon carved by the pristine North Fork of the Shoshone River, where wildlife and rugged beauty abound. President Theodore Roosevelt called this scenic byway 30 of the most beautiful miles in America.

The gateway town of Cody, Wyoming, lies 20 miles to the east of the Bear Den. Cody, known as "The Rodeo Capital of the World", offers a nightly rodeo in the summer months, along with shopping, dining, and the must-see Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a complex of five museums featuring art and artifacts of the American West.

For the horse lover, the McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area, home to over 100 wild horses, is just a short drive from the Bear Den. Located 20 miles east of Cody, Wyoming, McCullough Peaks boasts bands of flashy pintos, colorful sorrels and speckled sabinos, along with pronghorn, sage grouse, prairie dogs, and other native wildlife.

The Bear Den is also a short drive from the Beartooth Highway – a National Scenic Byways All-American Road. This 68 mile byway winds its way through southwest Montana and northwest Wyoming and leads into Yellowstone National Park at its Northeast Entrance. It's a must see!

If fly fishing is your passion, the Bear Den is located less than a five minute drive to fishing access on the renowned Shoshone River. The North Fork of the Shoshone hosts rainbow trout, mountain whitefish, brook trout, Yellowstone cutthroat, brown trout, rainbow-cutthroat hybrids and some lake trout on the lower stretches of the river.

Whether you spend your time exploring Yellowstone or visiting the Cody/Wapiti area, the outdoor recreation possibilities of northwest Wyoming are endless. Hiking, fishing, horseback-riding, photography, bird watching, wildlife watching, and biking are just a few of the many recreational pursuits that you can enjoy during your stay. With their thorough knowledge of the area, Sandy and Steve can answer any questions you might have to help make your stay the best it can be.

The Sweet Spot
My description would not do it justice it speaks for itself. It’s exactly what you want how fortunate I was to book this place. The ease of Yellowstone is amazing. Been on a 3 Week Rd. trip stayed plenty of places. This is my favorite.

A beautiful cabin very close to Yellowstone
I feel like the photos on the listing don’t do this cabin justice. The cabin sits on a hill with beautiful views no mater where you look! The mountain ranges that surround the cabin are gorgeous. This property sits about 30 minutes outside of the east entrance to Yellowstone and also 20 minutes outside of Cody, Wy if you need supplies or other stores. The property was clean and has a well supplied kitchen if you wanted to cook there. Overall, this was a lovely stay!

The cabin and hospitality were top notch. It is conveniently located to all Cody has to offer but with the bonus of a private property and well appointed accomodations. I will be booking again!

About the host

Hosted by Sandy Sisti and Steve Hartman

Host profile image
Sandy and Steve have been frequent visitors to Yellowstone for more than two decades. After getting married in Yellowstone in 2002, the pair began traveling back and forth to the park with more and more frequency. Because of their love for the Yellowstone area, they decided to relocate to northwest Wyoming to be closer to the park and its wildlife. In 2007, Sandy and Steve settled in Wapiti, Wyoming, just 30 miles from Yellowstone's East Entrance. After living in the area for 4 years, Sandy decided to pursue her dream as a photographer and has become a successful nature/wildlife photographer. Her business, Wild at Heart Images, focuses on the wild world of Yellowstone and beyond. Steve continues to work in the pharmaceutical industry, but often accompanies Sandy on her photographic journeys. When not photographing, you can find Sandy and Steve hiking one of the many trails in the area, still in awe of Wyoming's scenic splendor.
